hmm... Saul really should have said "we broke her back", not "she broke her back", to be honest she didn't fly herself into the side of a colony then jump with her landing pods out,
@JP48988 there were but the late pilot of that raptor disarmed the safety protocols so they wouldn't enter the fight without being able to get the first shot off, it's more to do with pilot error.
@ethan1142028 actually. if u pause the video at the right moment that you get the best angle. you can see that each shot carries 4 nukes each. making it a total of sixteen. trust me, i can see 16.
@KriegerAurelius So your'e saying that the 8 I see are actually 4 each? that would be 32, still the wrong number of missiles. I think it's just a slip up.
@ethan1142028 it is possible. it looks like theres 16, but there might be less or could be more, but truly doesn't matter. Still cool to watch this scene.
So...let's throw everything away even though we know there are still most likely hundreds of cylon basestars in space who still have standing orders to hunt them down. Could have just landed and used pieces and parts from the fleet to contruct another battlestar and a city.
@eaglesguy2036 Without resurrection, without any information on where the Fleet went and without any leadership - I'd say that the Cylons had more pressing matters than some pesky Colonials.
the one that annoys me about the ending scene, is that the "second" earth looks exactly as it does today....if it happened 150,000 years ago, the continents would actually look alot different than they do today...the sahara for one thing still had forests, and was quite swampy
@darthkarr There may be some differences but not with how the continents would look from space. Yes they didn't take everything into account but who really cares. It was a great show.

@stopthesoftkill haha that or, "well i could tell you a long ol' list of what's broken or tell you the shorter answer of what's working; which is nothing :P"
Colonial Fleet training operations must be pretty incredible. Galactica's (which was old and near retirement prior to the fall of man) ace pilot is a incredible Viper pilot, a Raptor Pilot, Special Forces commando, chief interrogator, sharpshooter, military strategist, and astronomical navigations officer. Jesus, I thought flight school taught you to fly.
@Kodos13 I would have demanded that the other ships be stripped down for parts and somehow build a space dock out of their remains to harness the galactica while the colonials fixed her. Implausible to be sure, but they managed to find earth with nothing but faith and the combined visions of the president and starbuck, if they could do that then they could have fixed galactica!
I'm kind of angry they gave up their technology. There is NO WAY you'd convince me to give up something that took 1000's of years to create and just throw it into the sun, literally.Still though,I absolutely love the song she played on the piano.I wish i could play that :D.
@waminjamin Dude, seriously! They're telling us that they know there's still Cylon's hunting them down. Cylons that they have a truce with but can never really be trusted. Countless other "badies" that could hunt them down and kill them and yet they all become hippies and start camping for the rest of their lives? Yeah....No. Sorry. Wouldn't happen. What would happen is they'd dominate the Earth with their superior technology and live a true happily ever after.
@waminjamin Honestly I was expecting them to ether arrive in modern times (like they did in the original series) and use the "God did it" argument to explain how humans and Colonial religion (Olympians = Lords of Kobul) existed on a world with no history with them or else appear in the past (like they did) and end up being Atlantis (there was even a BS Atlantis, so it wouldn't have been some random cop out).
I don't know what humans did, but they sure do know how to make a Battlestar. 2 fine examples, Pegasus. The Cylons couldn't blow her up. She destroyed herself to make sure that the survivors lived on. Finally, watching Galactica take over 50 years of punishment and still couldn't be destroyed, even after a premature jump. I think it is safe to say that the Battlestars were the greatest ship ever made, and do not go down in battle. They live on.
@KriegerAurelius very true, the toasters had to cripple the other battlestars with a virus before they dared take them on, those toasters would have been scrap metal in a straight fight
Netflix has the entire season :) Started watching it again from the start a couple of days ago. Every scene that gave me goosebumps the first time around is doing so still!
@MultigrainMuffins Well, initially it had only 5 but after they met with the Pegasus in season 2 Galactica received some more. Also it´s likely they got a few from the rebel cylons mid season 4. I hope this helps. ;)
Well that, but also the galactica was dying anyway, many episodes back the ship was falling apart. The structure and frame were cracking, and the ship was having power issues. From 50+ years in service, countless Jumps and many battles, not to mention the Jump they did on New caprica in the planets atmosphere. . The ship was done..
The only thing really holding it together was the cylon paste that the "good" cylons gave them to try and hold the ship's cracks together.
I dont think they had time, the nukes they launched at that huge base knocked it out of orbit (It was inside the accretion disk at a black hole) and the base was falling apart and hitting asteriods and stuff. Galactica was stuck inside it remember.
@MrIlovegamez considering how tightly wedged into that colony they were there'd probably have been some jam or something and then it'd probably been worse
@1ownjoo2 she was in a bad way from the beginning to be honest, i love the Galactica, but remember that those ribs on the hull ain't a design idea, they're structural ribs, she had a lot of her outer armor stripped off, she was in the middle of being decommissioned and being turned into a museum, which took up her starboard landing bay, another setback.
@spacegeeks3 unless of course by some miracle the Galactica missed the sun, we find it fix it and unite under the banner of epic battlestar space exploration :P
Pegasus was manned by a skeleton crew and had no raptor's and no ammunition for its side weapons (because they were moved to the galactica) The reason is because galactica was suppose to be the sacrifice since it was the older ship...
However you are right he was stupid to come in and try to save the old bucket. However you gatta remember also if he didnt pegasus wouldnt have been able to do anything anyway since it was nearly unmanned
I don't get the beginning of this scene where the raptor fires off a volley of missile's at the cylon colony because how can a tiny Raptor carrying equally small missile's cause that amount of damage to such a large object like the cylon colony which by judging from how small Galactica looked compared to it must be immense.. The missile's would have to be all nuclear to create such a large flash/explosion.
@firepatriot42 Though to be honest, a nuke in space wouldn't have nearly the effect it does down here. There's no atmosphere to carry the shock wave, the bigger thread is the hard neutron radiation and EMP, which barring a contact fuse is fairly easy to defend against, considering the tech that the colonies have(had) at their disposal.
@danielqmul All the Raptors were loaded up with the remaining nukes on the Galactica. they were to be used as a weapon of last resort. Racetrack and Skulls got damaged near the start of the fight. Racetrack saw the galactica being pelted by the Colony ship and saw no vipers or raptors defending her so she did her final duty, hoping that it would be enough to give Galactica a chance to jump out.
@danielqmul they were nukes, all the raptors were armed with them, and lets not forget that the colony had a bettlestar rammed into it, that'n not good for the structural integrity, add a hammering of nukes into the mix and all those little cracks come together to make one big problem.
Anyone else ever notice how they made Africa very small in the last couple shots of the video? I'm sure they did it to make it easy to recognize for the viewers, but it would not look like that in reality. They're so close to the planet that you'd only see half of Africa because it would be so large.
@ufsantaris555 the main song for whole frakkin cylons in BSG is from Jimi Hendrix - All along the watchtower.. if you have to ask this you should realy think about widening your knowledge
The show's finale was some of THE finest TV I've ever watched, and an awesome way to end what quickly became one of my all-time favorite series'. Absolutely amazing, it beats the living shit out of the ST:TNG finale.
@TheMinecraftColony I love how if you use freeze frame you can see when Kara introduces the coordinates the screen flashes in red "COORDINATES NOT VERIFIED"... nice little touches
Too bad this show went largely unrecognized by the awards shows. Sci fi (this really wasn't sci fi but drama set in sci fi) has always been snubbed by the mainstream and awards shows. It did win more critical awards such as the Peabody though. And how many stars from other shows have gone and spoken to the United Nations?
@AgentRoRo99 not so much an angel as an instrument of god/s/lord/s... returned from death for a purpose, which giving herself to death proved her worthy of accepting (and, probably humanity too); when her task was completed, taken back
"It doesnt mateer just jump us outta here now jump!!!!!" "There must be some kindda way outta here!" Great scene great season all in all great fracking sci-fi show great production great directing great writing everything about it was amazing gonna miss it like fracking crazy, they didnt have time to retract the flight pods because it was either that and waste time and getting fragged into the black hole or leave the flight pods open and jump the ship saving Galactica and the crew. "JUMP!"
"I look at you, I don't see Kara Thrace. I see an angel blazing with the light of God." Couldn't said it better myself, she did save humanity from extinction. This and the Adama Maneuver are the most frakkin' memorable moments in television!
I wonder how fast Galactica can go while at sublight speed.... They can make it from the moon to Earth's orbit in less than 12 hours, so I wonder how fast it can really go.
@thehelix27 might have helped if the flight pods were retracted. that kind of stress with a already weakened super structure should have torn the ship apart, not to mention they just went through the biggest battle the ship has ever seen, Galactica was the best ship in the fleet!
The ship only had a few jumps left in her anyway.
I do agree with you.... but when you're falling into a black hole, surrounded by cylons and asteroids.... I don't think the flight pods are your top concern. :D
Interesting to see how Starbuck some how types in the correct coordinate’s for Earth. Fullfilling her quest from when she was taken there in her Viper.
they abandoned all their culture and their technolgoy, so the mind can compete to the imrpovement of technology. Were did it lead us? To now? I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Battlestar Galactica. THE toughest sci-fi ship EVER.
It broke my heart when that last FTL jump wrecked her, and Tigh said "..she's broke her back..she'll never jump again.."
But to see the shattered, dying Galactica still plowing her way toward Earth choked me up. I liked that even more than the scuttling scene.

Anyone else ever notice how they made Africa very small in the last couple shots of the video? I'm sure they did it to make it easy to recognize for the viewers, but it would not look like that in reality. They're so close to the planet that you'd only see half of Africa because it would be so large.

Bear McCreary is a genius, BSG is 'genius'. This scene is one of the shows highlights, blending of the music, with the imagery, poetry in motion.

Epic.

Mesanger of Death, because she's an angel...now I get it.
AgentRoRo99 11 months ago
@AgentRoRo99 not so much an angel as an instrument of god/s/lord/s... returned from death for a purpose, which giving herself to death proved her worthy of accepting (and, probably humanity too); when her task was completed, taken back
MysidianMoments 11 months ago
This really is the greatest TV show of the 21st century so far, the last two episodes are truly monumental pieces of TV science fiction.

Watching Galactica break her back Broke my heart
thehelix27 1 year ago 4
@thehelix27 might have helped if the flight pods were retracted. that kind of stress with a already weakened super structure should have torn the ship apart, not to mention they just went through the biggest battle the ship has ever seen, Galactica was the best ship in the fleet!
webduelist 1 year ago
@webduelist
The ship only had a few jumps left in her anyway.
I do agree with you.... but when you're falling into a black hole, surrounded by cylons and asteroids.... I don't think the flight pods are your top concern. :D

@HarakMolova if it had been the Pegasus i bet it would haven't even been able to complete the jump.

wow this battlestar has really paid it's dues. was supposed to be retired because it was so damn old, but instead they had to keep using it :(

where would you need to start watching this show for it to make since? ALA, are there different series etc?
testy462 1 year ago
@testy462 Just start with the new Battlestar Galatica at the beginning... you don't need to watch the original series, they are separate.
LokiMD 1 year ago
@testy462 definitely the beginning. including the mini series.

Don't watch the original series.... otherwise you'll spend the rest of the new one wondering why Starbuck had a sex change.

Interesting to see how Starbuck some how types in the correct coordinate’s for Earth. Fullfilling her quest from when she was taken there in her Viper.
