This is just a blue discus which is stressed out..............I bought a blue discus and after a journey of 4 hrs when i released him into my aquarium he was totally black and after two days he came back to his original blue color
I guess nowadays this fish has the same colour of the others wild discus. Or it is dead. There´s no other option. It can´t stay black for so long, probably this discus is sick or stressed... poor fish...
I find it truly amazing how people come to solid conclusions by just looking at this video. You can't claim it is either unhealthy and that is why it looks black, or that it must be a gene mutation and that must be why it looks black. You really can't even come to a conclusion that this fish IS black. The video, though very interesting is very dark and quite often green, so we can not tell the true colours in the video.
should breed it in a tank so you can control its mating. Then you will find out if it is truly a black fish or not. And go to the area where this fisherman claims to have found him and try to catch more. A School of black and albino Fish would be nice. Be careful with that fish , could be one in a hundred million! Hope you use him appropiatley

I am sorry to hear that you would recomend to attempt and breed that ugly so called black discus. Sorry to dissapoint you but black discus are not the color sought after by Discus breeders/enthusiasts, we strive for more colorfull solid or patterned varieties. Discus breeder nowdays strive for clean solid colors without the peppering and black markings.
ese pobre disco lo que tiene es un gran stress y por tal motivo esta de ese color de hecho se ve hasta con mucosa desprendida por eso el color oscuro no por que sea negro creo que ese pobre disco no durara mucho...
"Discus would only turn black is when they are distressed and suffering from serious illness."
I've also observed this sad phenomenon. I don't think that this fish looks nearly sick enough though. It looks well-fed even. Great video mate, thanks for posting.
if the fish is black from itself then he is the rarest fish in the world i think, i also think that if it is black from itself it is worth a lot of money ;)
My friend, there is no such thing as a black discus. Discus would only turn black is when they are distressed and suffering from serious illness. I suggest that you have it quaranteened to prevent the diseasae from spreading to other fishes specially discus.

Theres no ganruntee the fish is unhealthy, there could just be a mutation which has caused the fish to have a dark pigmentation.

I can see the bars in the movie on this black fish. Try a general treatment just to make sure in case of a health problem the fish will survive.
Is he eating ?
