Check out 3:58/3:59. There are 6 not 5 Hyenas. Not once does the lioness back down. Had it been a mature male lion the hyenas wouldn't even have went through their posturing.
A Hyena will rarely fight to death unless it got caught by a Lion, even then its defensive, it will bite back just enough so it can run away.
But Ability wise many say that 2-3 Hyenas determined agressive prime Female Spotted Hyenas or even better Matriarchs would absolutely destroy a Lioness & even cause Problems for a Male Lions. If you read Hans Kruuks book, you will read how 5 Female Hyenas almost killed a fully healthy Prime Male Lion & chased it away.

wow dude do your research before you post hyenas jaws are probably stronger than every animal you mentioned they have bone crushing strength and they are pound for pound tougher than almost every other carnivore they just dont have the size agility and claws like the big cats but they even out the playin field with sheer numbers

The hyenas were wise to keep a respectful distance. The Styxx pride in Mala Mala is known for their hatred of hyenas and are responsible for several hyena deaths and fatal injuries. Normally 4 hyenas can match a lioness but not even 5 would get close.

That is one brave Lioness, the Hyenas seem a little unsure what to do with her.
Of course, then too, I didn't see the other Lionesses till the end of the video.
Still, this one Lioness refused to give ground to the 5 or 6 Hyenas that was harassing it.

I don´t see lions being braver than hyenas.
They hunt in pack, they don´t fight unless there have few, weaker enemies, or if it has team mates...
I see much braver a boar, that fight to his death, although it is comfronting with more enemies, being each of them bigger and stronger.

Hyenas beat all of those except for the crocodile. Lions, tigers, and gorillas are pretty strong, but the hyena is the top amongst mammals.

It's a fact that Spotted Hyenas have THE strongest jaws of the animal kingdom.
A year old hyena has a bite of a thousand pounds of pressure, so adults would have way more.
Lions and tigers have about 600 pounds of pressure when they bite, gorillas have about 700 pounds of pressure and crocs have a thousand.
But fully grown adult hyenas have OVER 1000 pounds of pressure per bite.
