from my sister ... Maritza Dargounian: "The Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day - April 24th !
On this day, the world remembers the victims who perished in the Genocide of 1915, perpetrated by the Ottoman Turks.
Over 1.5 MILLION innocent Armenians were massacred. The Ottoman government's real goal was to destroy the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire once and for all....
... In April 1915, preparations for the deportations began. Armenian men in the Turkish army had their weapons taken away from them and were relieved of their duties. Others were dismissed from government positions. Armenian churches were burned and desecrated, and Armenian schools were forced to close.
Teachers, writers, and businessmen were rounded up and taken away. Most of them never returned.
On April 24, a large number of Armenian leaders and intellectuals were executed. April 24 is now observed by Armenians as a day of mourning, in memory of the GENOCIDE.
