the more I think about it, the more I think its a shame MGM didnt make a sequel movie based on this story. They probably would have if the orginal movie was successful from the start. I think MGM would have had fun with the whole Jinjur army concept. Shirly temple could have been Tip. And i would like to see more of Ray bolgers scarecrow, especially as he adjusts to being king.
??? Never heard of this film being made. It was in theaters? Imagine that. I wish they'd make more of the OZ stories into films. Yes, it was a surprise to learn Tip's secret. But you must admit it was a diabolical place to hide a missing princess.
@StevenShields29 first of kid was born a girl second not against her will... she dithers but then goes for it. Third she's the perfect allegory for a transwoman's experience.
@StevenShields29 it was a typo "First off [the] id was born a girl. Second [it was] not against her will. So poor English, I probably shouldn't be typing these replies at 5 am.
@PetiteOzma I will agree, this is a total transgender story...and from 1903 no less! That doesn't make it any less creepy. To me. And to probably most other people.
Its like a horrible combination of K. Gordon Murray kiddie matinee film and an Ed Wood z-film. And I bet you anything Ed Wood would credit himself as Alan Smithee.
lol, 1:10 "I?! I'm no princes...I'm not a girl! Please, don't chop off my balls and make me wear a dress!"

They gave away the big twist about Tip's true identity right in the trailer! Anyway, this movie looks pretty dreadful.

This is based on the 2nd Oz book from 1904. There were about 40 different books.

@PetiteOzma "first of kid was born a girl second not against her will" What on earth does that mean? Is it some kind of code or just poor English?

I made my mother take me to the theater to see this when I was about 6 years old. Now I own it on DVD, which is even more frightening.
