I breathe Fishbone since 1987...Wouldn't be surprised after I die and have donated my body for medical research, the medical students will find a fishbone somewherer behind my spleen...
This doco is long overdue but in many ways is right on time! I can't wait to see it but unfortunately I'll have to wait until the DVD is released as I doubt it will screen here in Australia. From the first time I heard Fishbone in 1991 as a 16 year old, my take on music was forever altered. I have loved many bands since but none with the passion of Fishbone. None have held their longevity like Fishbone. Fishbone were ahead of their time and most of their material is timeless.
Fishbone are one of the only great bands to genuinely master all the different musical styles and genres they played. When they played metal, you were convinced they were a metal band. When they played funk, you were convinced they were a funk band. When they played punk, you were convinced they were a punk band. Ska, rock.. you name it, they mastered it. They had everything you would ever want in a live show: explosive energy, tight musicianship, the look, the humor, the social commentary.
What sucks is that their best years are well after they peaked on the charts back in the '80s, and I won't be surprised at all if their best stuff is yet to come.
killer. as an "underground" band, i had no idea they touched so many. ironic that they're bigger in Europe.... i once heard that they play about nine months out of the year and are always trying to get in the studio. i'm'a try and join my local Familyhood when they hit SF in a few...!
"i'm gonna do this [perform] till i can't do it no more!"
~ Angelo C. Moore's words to me in San Jose, circa 2000
In under five minutes, this did a better job of explaining why I've loved Fishbone for almost 18 years than I ever could. There are very few bands that have shaped my life and none of those other bands impacted me and still have an impact on me like Fishbone.
