That'd work real good if you could learn to keep your head up while doing it. If you keep practising this drill with your head down, it'll become a habit and you'll just get smoked everytime you get the puck because you'll be use to having your head down while stick handling.

Thats because they dont grow up in such a hockey loving environment and the skill level is not as high. Also, Canadians focus on making more finesse players while American hockey is about getting things done at both ends of the ice

Yeah.. Practicing off ice, stick handling with a golf ball will help you with your hand eye co ordination, and if you can handle a golf ball off ice, you can sure as hell handle a puck on ice.

Not all hockey balls are the same.
They have different ratings for temperature.
A cold weather ball, will be very soft and more "sticky" in normal weather.
A warm weather ball, will be too hard (and can shatter in cold weather)
If you are using a crappy ball that doesn't tell you what weather it's for, chances are it's an inferior one, and good for nothing.
