In Ohio, New York and France, I noted huge discrimination, for gender mostly. Here in France, it is very hard to get into many companies at all if you are black. What upset me was the unfair treatment I received in NYC when I was a crime victim several times. Things were just blown off, even though the perps were nabbed and confessed! What bugs me these days is that when a person, esp. young, who is black does a crime here and gets nabbed, there are actual riots and destruction.

I'm white - when I got out of the army I had 4 yrs experience as a military police officer. I tried to get a job at a correctional facility here in my home state or Ar. I didn't get the job and was told by someone that worked there that I knew, the position was a minority position and a black guy that had no prior law enforcement training or experience got the job.
A friend of mine and I, back in our mid 30's went to ACOA, Atlantic Canada Opportunities agency, to try and get a small grant to start a painting business going. I am a middle aged white woman and yes, I have been discriminated against for being white. I too have been discriminated against due to my age. Back in the early to mid 80's when you had to tell employers what your medical problems were, I was discriminated against that too. So, it's not only blacks that are discriminated against.
I look white but my Grand parents are from Mex, and My dad and sister are darker skin then I. In the past I sold items to c stores and if I went in a store to sale something with out telling them my Last name I got shunned. But if I showed my Card 1st and they noticed my Mex Last name I got the sale.

I went to school in the UK for six years, and was always told that I had a bad attitude, was given lots of punishments, etc. Then I went to the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, where I found how all 400 American students there had the same "bad attitude" and how my grades could not rise above a glass ceiling that seemed to be there to keep Americans out of the honours programme. I left after 2 years to complete my education in VA.
Back in the army I had to work for a black guy who hated white people. It was obvious the way he acted. When he was with his brothers he was happy & laughed a lot but when a white guy happened along he became the most sour, grouchy, evil bastard you can imagine. After he got an ARCOM (a metal) for my work, he refused my promotion saying I didn't deserve it.
He made my life hell for 2 years. There is justice in the world though. He was eventually kicked out of the army due to using crack.
A couple years later there was a black guy who believed everyone hated him because he was black. That didn't explain why all the black people hated him too. He and I were opposites and each hated the other something terrible. Luckily he collapsed from the heat and was sent home. Back in the states he would break into the warehouse where the belongings of the deployed people were stored, and he'd pawn it off post. He got caught and went to jail. A woman or a minority, needed a 30 to pass. I took all the test they had. Carrying dumbies up ladders, and across roofs, down ladders, etc. It was a whole day exam. Never experienced racism. There was report recently from Harvard that said swine flu has same death rate as seasonal flu (.01%) and not that of a pandemic (greater 2%). It's only a good idea if you have a good amount in savings, have a secure job, and are buying on the outskirts of town or out in the country. I've not personally been discriminated against, though I've seen it many times. Most of the time I see it, the situation has to do with hiring. I've seen blacks, mexicans, and women who are not as qualified hired over white men who were fare more qualified. I was in the bottom 10 students accepted for a class. 3 Mexican & 7 African Students applied. The school had to enact affirmative action and dropped me. 3 of the African students (that I know of because I asked) had both a lower GPA, and much lower SAT score. They felt bad.... But that was racism.

In Ohio, New York and France, I noted huge discrimination, for gender mostly. Here in France, it is very hard to get into many companies at all if you are black. What upset me was the unfair treatment I received in NYC when I was a crime victim several times. Things were just blown off, even though the perps were nabbed and confessed! What bugs me these days is that when a person, esp. young, who is black does a crime here and gets nabbed, there are actual riots and destruction.

I'm white - when I got out of the army I had 4 yrs experience as a military police officer. I tried to get a job at a correctional facility here in my home state or Ar. I didn't get the job and was told by someone that worked there that I knew, the position was a minority position and a black guy that had no prior law enforcement training or experience got the job.

I went to school in the UK for six years, and was always told that I had a bad attitude, was given lots of punishments, etc. Then I went to the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, where I found how all 400 American students there had the same "bad attitude" and how my grades could not rise above a glass ceiling that seemed to be there to keep Americans out of the honours programme. I left after 2 years to complete my education in VA.

Back in the army I had to work for a black guy who hated white people. It was obvious the way he acted. When he was with his brothers he was happy & laughed a lot but when a white guy happened along he became the most sour, grouchy, evil bastard you can imagine. After he got an ARCOM (a metal) for my work, he refused my promotion saying I didn't deserve it.
He made my life hell for 2 years. There is justice in the world though. He was eventually kicked out of the army due to using crack.

(PT2) Part of the process is an interveiw with the fire chief. i had gone to school with one of his daughters. We knew each other by first name and in the interview he told me that I was his first pick. i had scored the highest on the written exam and had the best times on the strength tests. but he had to hire the two I mentioned because the town would lose state funding, they didn't have the right % of minorities. I found out a couple of years later that both had left the dept. for other jobs.

Hey Demcad, I have had a time when I didn't feel I was treated right. I went for the firefighter exam in my home town. I got a 99 on the writenexam. I needed to get a 70 to pass( I I'm white). A woman or a minority, needed a 30 to pass. I took all the test they had. Carrying dumbies up ladders, and across roofs, down ladders, etc. It was a whole day exam. In regards to discrimination our so called President said his grandfather was a '"typical white person' and so it's not surprising that citizens discriminate when the so called leader of our country stereotypes a particular race. And let's not forget his racist slip at the podium when a white police officer out east was trying to arrest a black professor. And then there were all those years he listened to the so call ed Rev. Wrights' racist sermons. Obama's is the lead racist in the USA.

Yes, I have been discriminated against. I applied for a different job at a company I was working in. I was told it required over night travel and the boss didn't want to send a woman to a hotel alone. So I was not even given an interview.

It's only a good idea if you have a good amount in savings, have a secure job, and are buying on the outskirts of town or out in the country. I've not personally been discriminated against, though I've seen it many times. Most of the time I see it, the situation has to do with hiring. I've seen blacks, mexicans, and women who are not as qualified hired over white men who were fare more qualified. I don't think they had quotas, but it looked better to hire minorities than it did white men.

yep, that is 100% racism. However, let the free market decide what happens to that business... NOT OUR JUDICIAL SYSTEM. Let the jounalists of every major newspaper rip that business to shreds according to the truth of how they chose to use their rights to refuse business to certain individuals (clearly) because of their race. This is not a case for the courts. Was the business owner wrong? Yes. Should we take money out of his pocket and put it into someone elses via the courts? No. Free market..

Friend, when I say "free market," I mean let the people choose whether or not to do business with this fellow after the FREE press does their job by taking the story to the people. As soon as the government "regulates" racism, we are in trouble. Their is NOTHING anti-constitutional about what I'm saying whatsoever. There is never (nor has there ever been) anything worthy of being called a "FREE market" when it has been "regulated" by a corrupt government with special interests in their pockets.

a true free market is clearly only possible with a gov't of the, by the, & for the people, which we clearly do not. Our definition of "free market" is not the same. Maybe that is the problem. I do not think that a court should have power to take money from a business owner because he refused business to someone, regardless of how RACIST/EVIL/WRONG/WHATEVER that business owner is. Let this guy lose $ because free individuals choose freely to not do business with him. Is that not a "free market"?

Social security has been denying me any benifits due to my race and sex and age they even told me this a white male age 44 as I was told its unlikely to get anything unless i had no legs and arms and even then it would be hard this is what they told me in their office

I had a bout of racism against me.
I had a 92 average and a 1460 on my SAT when I tried to get into the University of Texas @ Dallas. (School of Medicine) (Back in 1995).
I was in the bottom 10 students accepted for a class. 3 Mexican & 7 African Students applied. The school had to enact affirmative action and dropped me. 3 of the African students (that I know of because I asked) had both a lower GPA, and much lower SAT score. They felt bad.... But that was racism.

Decrimination is a problem that will never go away...what is more important is not to focus too much on the topic....when you meet someone try not to see their color...take one person at a time..if you do this you will be a lot happier. Focus on the positives.

Yeah I used to get discriminated against when I played the rat game. But now I choose not to play that game. So I'm happy :) But there are always rat games to play so I guess in some form or fashion I will always be discriminated against. Cryptic much?
