I looked it up and that is a square knot, a reef knot is tied resulting in a bight at the end allowing for a quicker release... You learn something new every day!

there are easier ways of doing it.

McKay style is what we caled a mountaineer coil.

in rope access (hanging off highrises n whatnot) we do this same trick, but instead of holding the rope, we rest it on the back of our necks and let each side of loops fall on our chest over each shoulder. We work from one end to the other, take it off, and tie it up. What would you call that, non style?

I am in Spain right now rock climbing and I filmed a Brit doing exactly that. I will see if I can post it today and come up with some smart ass name or the technigue.
