I've done that tune many times on guitar. I do it as a ballad in a straight chord/melody style. Your version has inspired me to try to come up with a more spirited version on tenor banjo.
Yes, it is a six string, which is tuned like a guitar. It is a weird instrument, but I like using it for jobs outside, or if I have to stroll in a large room, with an accordion.
