  • what is the first tune?? spirit of '69

    boss reggae

  • @spiritof69vinyl is "Check Him Out" with LEO GRAHAM at the lead backed by THE BLEECHERS...

  • skinheads didn't start in jamiaca but they are a combo of both british and jamiacan working class fashion and culture.

  • @kickouttheyuppies no not really, it's like a genre of music and Jamaican culture. It was just adopted by British whites and black rude boys in UK and like the nazi sign, it became a sign of stupidity.

  • Rocksteady, dancehall and Ska were the music of choice for most "geezers" although all reggae is some of the most fantastic music ever produced, it was the livelier style that was played in the clubs ad pubs when I was drinking me rum and black!!!! Pride in appearance, good music to dance to, this is what it is all about!!

  • No worries mate. Real original Skins love Jamaican people and their music... Man, there is so much misinformation about skins floating around. We have been fighting those stupid bone heads for years. We all have. I am so glad we are on the same page mate. I love this music

  • No worries mate. Real original Skins love Jamaican people and their music...

  • Ska existed as Jamaican music entirely independently of little white skinheads until 1968-9 and owed nothing to them even if it may be true that they (or some of them) already appreciated the music. The input after 1968 is a bit ambiguous in nature but you are right it is very important. and underestimated by many reggae historians. But what are these "certain reasons" that split the skins from the mods and made them identify with Jamaicans. Are we talking homophobia here? Or what?

  • Hi and thanks, good versions...Check trevor ranking and the jays.. u possibly know it already. Just got the LP.

Got 5 GB of old reggae , ska / blues but the Lp sound..beats it...just started lastw eek my collection with the Wailers Catch a fire Zippo Album..Remember that one ? u ve seen it.

  • Hi there,

The first song is 'Check him out' by The Bleechers who also did the fabulous 'Come into my Parlour'. 'Check him out' was produced by Lee Perry around 1969. You can find it on Lee Perry and the Upsetters, The Upsetter Shop, Vol. 2.

  • it is the greatest form of music ever invented, and true skinheads are the greatest people ever. unity! cheers.

  • @corpsman89 yes but the racists cunts ruined the image.

  • All I have to say is...

    Look deh now

    See deh now

Everything's all on top, everything's all on top(hot)

the upsetter stop, where music's hot (man)

if you want to know the spot, if you want to know the spot

just take a walk over Orange Street, turn Charles street, look for the upsetter stop, where music's sweet

NUMBER 36 CHARLES STREET, that's the number!

  • IT STARTS WITH BLUE BEAT, THEN SKA, ROCKSREADY, REGGAE, & so on roots dubs ,ect

  • Sorry Red, Ska came before Reggae, just as skinheads started in Jamaica. Music/Culture brought to England, then spread to the working class of the UK.

  • I Think If You Read More Info It Says That....

"Yet it was with Ska and the first mention of 'Rude Boys' that the embryonic Skinhead had matured into a recognizable entity"

Remember The Context of This Video Is Skinhead Reggae. "Reggae, from the late 1960s until about c1972 could be claimed as Skinhead, because Reggae was the Skinheads"

    Please Read All The Info

  • Exactly. You had R&B/shuffle in the late 50's, ska in the early 60's, rocksteady in the mid 60's, and the "skinhead reggae" was from around 68 to about 70 ish, with the oddball "Reggae Fever" by the Pioneers coming out late.

However, there was some rocksteady in the late 60's, as well as some roots, ska, and rocksteady, so you can't stereotype all tunes from the late 60's as "Skinhead Reggae".

  • Sensible Comments.

In truth it could be said that almost all music, known collectively as Reggae, from the late 1960s until about c1972 could be claimed as Skinhead, because Reggae was the Skinheads music of choice.

  • @cosmo1975 mod mixed with rudeboy, and working class pride

  • @cosmo1975

man sorry but i thing that reggae come first from nyabinghi

  • Skinheads do NOT come from Jamaica!!!!! Skins evolved out of the hard side of the Mod Culture. Skins listened to Ska, Rocksteady and early Reggae. Rude boys come from Jamaica.

  • @tigertai7 Sorry, you're right. I said started, but should have said "rooted" from Jamaican culture. A poorly/hastily written comment on my part. Cheers!

  • Is that a response to me? if so then, I know that's true, but wearing expensive clothes isn't exclusive to upeer class. Choosing to spend all their hard-earned money on clothes don't make them upper class. Maybe did rejected the "traditional working-class" lifestyle and values and chose to live another way. but they WERE working class(of course not all of them, but a lot).

  • First Track - Check Him Out - Bleechers

Second i'm not sure, doesn't do it for me

Third is Trial of Pama Dice - Lloyd, Dice, and Mum. I'm guessing Lloyd is lloyd charmers, Dice the boss, and i have no idea who mum is.

  • 2nd track is Kingston Town - Lord Creator

  • 'Sorry mate'

The skinheads were originally started by the Rude Boys in Jamaica back in the 60s, around the rise of the ska movement. As the Rude Boys immigrated to England, working-class English kids began to pick up on it, preferring to identify with the easy-going skinheads than the upper-class Mods.

the whole movement came from Jamaica and the lower class white kids startd to copy them &joined in
