Jefferdaughter, I collecti Carp orientalis during late January and through Ferbruary till the beginning of march. I repot them much later, April, or even early may...that's because, the trees are collected at the seaside where they grow, but in Zagreb where I live, the climate is different and the trees do not awake from dormancy untill late april
great video. im thinking of transplanting a garden juniper to a bonsai pot soon and was wondering what preparations i need to make in order to do it successfully, i.e. keep it alive after the potting. its quite old with great size roots.
should i even put it into a bonsai pot first or something else like what you guys use?
My soil mixture is floreopor (crushed, uneven edges) mixed with big pumice (10-20mm granulation). So, this is all inorganic stuff. On top of that, I put in the mix a fistfull or two of peat (maybe up to 15%) if the pot is smaller in size, because otherwise it dryes too fast. And that's all. In some containers, there's only 100% floreopor. Floreopor is 100% expanded clay.

@SandevBonsai - also known as Oriental hornbeam (for your English speaking viewers).
What season is best to collect these? Early spring, about the same time you would repot? Thank you for all your great videos!!
