Got this album when it first came out over 30 years ago, lost all my vinyl in the subsequent years and this is the first I've heard this in a long long time..... BLISS!!!
I agree, it's the best version of all the ones I've heard
Yeah, one of my favorite recording of Weather Reports, although I wish I could have the extended version with what sounds like the beginning of a drum solo at the end of the song.
Definitely a better version from that on Black Market album. That's what i'm listening to right now.First time i'm listenting to 8:30. Hope all the other songs are of this quality!!
Thanx for the post jazzeldestripador! Pastorious shines in this one!!! On black Market album i think Alphonso Johnson plays the bass on this track?
@brunocontiello i am 100% sure that on Black market Alphonso Johnson plays the bass... have you heard Jaco a lot? this is not his kind of playing. and to be accurate Jaco plays bass on Canonball and Barbary Coast. you can hear his unique style sound there.
@camelspottergr Well, Jaco plays a little more traditional here, and problably influenced in style by the excellent Alphonso Johnson that made the original studio version.
But it is Jaco on all 8:30 tracks, that's for sure ;)
Jaco sounds really groovy in this one!

with all respect to Alphonso Johnson, Jaco's playing is like drinking wine in the sunset on a beach deck with one of the VS models!

Just like we get the Technology from Aliens via Area 51, we got the "Bass" from "Jaco" via "Weather Report" . . . . damn it
