Bone stock xr650r California delivery was 39-DBH "draw brake horse power" and it overheated because they were to lean and there exhaust was restricted. But if you installed the Honda Power Up Kit, " intake manifold, exhaust tip, main and pilot jets,
and removed the air-box baffles".The engine will produce just over 60-DBH. With the power up kit installed and stock gearing the XR650 will run a mere 112mph and have sheer power that is almost breath taking. DRZ's just don't compare. Sorry Guys
Is every XR650R fan here on crack? Stock VS stock, were do you find a stock XRR with 62 HP? They are like 40-45 stock. Less than that if you go with the dual sport L model. Yes the XRR is faster, but not by that much acceleration wise, stock vs stock on both bikes. You might, if you're lucky, to get a stock XRR to run mid 8's in the 1/8 mile, and a DRZ400 to do upper 8's. That is not a big difference. Take your stock XRR to the track and post some time slips!
Stock for stock, which DRZ400E is compared to my jetted, air boxed, exhausted KLX650C1, I dub the KLX the faster bike for dragging purposes. However... Ive never drag raced anything so... maybe I'm wrong just feels like like the bigger bike is faster but I'd rather be on my DRZ400E if I was being chased by the coppers if that helps.
Cool place your in, but riding with one hand isn't a good idea cause your not looking. Plus if by some chance (I know it's very small) you hit a rock or something, your fucked. I would know, it happened to me. Nice video though
@Pdwlx4 Ummm, stock for stock the fastest I've seen them both turn in the 1/8 and 1/4 mile are pretty close. Just check some youtube videos, that will verify this statement. The best I've seen an XR650 is in the 8.70's in the 1/8, and 8.80's for the drz. That's not much difference IMO.
@mrpotatoheadracing Allow me to elaborate: neither bike is quite a quarter mile bike but if you want to cruise down the highway I would much prefer the bigger. I have an 01 drz400e which is quick and fun and perfectly fine to scoot around on and I also have a 95 Klx 650c1 that I take when I need to take a trip on the interstate. I don't like to "scream" along on my 400.
@Pdwlx4 Stock for stock, still not a "big" difference in acceleration. If I were to put money on these two bikes in a 1/8 mile race, I'd pick the one with the better rider if i knew who it was. I never said either was a quarter mile machine, and what you prefer at cruising speed doesn't answer the original question. "Is there a big difference in acceleration in these two bikes?" To say that an XR650 will pull away from a DRZ400, both in stock form, is just nonsense.
@mrpotatoheadracing I really hate that you guys keep saying "XR650", "XR", and "KLX650C", as if any of those bikes are supposed to be anything like the XRR in the video. The DRZ/s (vid) is heavier and has half the power of an XRR.
Overview: XR=XR650=XR650L~=DR650~=KLX650C=~35 hp, nearly the same as the DRZ e/s but has more torque and weighs more
XR650R = 62 bhp, weighs less than DRZs, baja race bike
Bruce (OP) was talking about XRR vs DRZ(s). The bikes aren't even in the same league.
Precision concepts XR made 53.5 HP. I've still never seen a stock 60 HP XR. Will someone please show me one? If it exists.

hey man tell me is there a very big diference in acceleration between the two bikes?
brucenash 2 years ago
@brucenash yes there is, at about 3rd gear the XR will pull away. Nowhere near as nimble though.
