  • just slapping the guitar all the time, so bad.

  • @JohnDaiko YEAH I KNOW!!! But wait, where's the video of you playing this...??

    Oh yeah...

  • shes good...but boring.

check out preston reed...or andy mckee :)

  • Fuck that was great!!! Is there any character string that symbolizes thunderous applause?!?!?!

  • I don't know why, but this make me remember to Crash Team Racing, i don't know why xD

This song sounds like GST xd

  • i still think les claypool would cry if he seen this video

  • @audioraiment1 Les plays bass...

  • if you like percussive guitar check The Yuya

  • why does she look so pissed off at first?

  • Any clues as to what tuning she's playing in?

  • Sounds like C-G-D-G-A-D

  • this is a great song, but in my opinion if i could play this, it would be a pain in the butt to rememebr which frets are what! Theres no dots!Which jsut add to the talent that she already has.

  • the frets are most likely at the top

my guitar doesnt have the dots on the fretboard but it has them at the top

and once you get good enough you kinda remember where every fret is

  • Evertime i hear this song, it reminds me of "professor nutbutters hous of sweets" from primus. don`t know why.

and yes, she's not playing the same tempo all the way. doesn't matter, as long as you got no rythmsection behind you, who'll hate you for this.

  • Great song :)

  • If I close my eyes....I couldn't tell that it wasn't the great Michael Hedges...she's a winner...very talented.

  • This is cool and this "song" sounds fucking awesome!

Everything about this song is awesome; great technique!

  • why do you care what she looks like? if you base your taste in music on a persons looks i pity you. its the quality of the music that counts and the quality of this is amazing

  • An acoustic? I guess you can't recognize anything properly.

  • She played that song amazingly. Beautiful indeed.

  • i think that maybe they were wondering... because that guitar is fucking awesome

  • most ovations are... and for the people interested in her amazing sound, check out george lowden guitars, which she also uses...

  • She's hot and amazing at guitar.

  • wow she's completely amazing

and this is kinda stupid but

are those nails on her right hand?

at first i thought she was holding a pick

    but whatever she's awesome!

  • she keeps her nails long because it helps her fingerpick, if u look at flemenco style guitar u'll notice those players keep their nails long too

  • Obviously you are someone who likes to be trapped in a box.

  • What are you talking about? The tempo is roughly 140 beats per minute.

  • wow, this song has absolutely no tempo!!!

  • What the hell are you on about?

  • Actually it has, is just that it has changes, what is not bad, actually its really good. Wow, people like you that thinks that knows everything are, in most of the cases, the most stupid humans over there

  • I think what is meant by "tempo" is that there is no "steady tempo", which seems to me to be true - some sections are faster than others. That being said, we don't need to place value on steady tempo all the time do we? Maybe that's what Kaki was going for - she plays it this way consistently I've noted - varying the tempo in different sections.

In any case, I love her music!

  • mez... you know that word for hypnotic that starts with m.

  • She's a lesbian?? :(...She's the girl I want to marry lol

  • playing with pink, sounds sexy... lol jk

i saw her live in SF. it was awesome.

  • she is an orchestra by herself..

  • the song is actually called playing with pink noise

  • Amazing!!!she's a master of fingerstyle!!!

  • i just ran across kaki king and ive gotta say this is simply amazing. i mean shes pretty much drumming and playing guitar on the same instrument. i love percussive guitar and this is definitely it at its best.

  • From the Thommy Emmanuel school of guitar. They're a very under appreciated bunch.

  • She's brilliant, but you should check out someone like Andy McKee, who is simply jaw dropingly incredible.

  • DEFINITELY

  • F A N T A S T I C !!!!!!

  • =-O she's awesome!!...

  • she's a lez...

  • True, and theres nothing wrong with that

  • yeah, Lesbian rules (at least their porn do =P) but few girls play guitar as well as she does ^^

love that she plays with the foo fighters on their new album, "Ballad of the Beconfield miners" that song rules ^^

  • Yes, she does like the ladies - most MEN do, too! So, there you go, something in common with Kaki if DEQR is a guy. :) They should bond! Common interests and all.

  • go fcuk yourself

  • Idiot.

  • one that knows her way around some strings

  • LoL, it means "Shit" she's good

  • I like to play with the pink myself :)

  • hahaahaha!nice!

  • female andy mc kee

    jk

  • Yes it was said well but first one must realize that every sound has its place and musicians like Kaki are in th frontof the line, and the old music is in the back, remember Mozart was considered revolutionary at one time. I have played the old way and I love to watch her do thngs my teachers never even considered.

  • to be perfectly fair, Mozart was nothing new, he came along near the end of the Baroque period, however, he was one of the greatest musical genius' of all time.

and as much as I like Kaki, it's pretty ridiculous to compare her to Mozart.

    /2 cents

  • Right on, I noticed you had Andy Mckee on your site, so we know it is a style worth listening to. I was simply saying that What is new and great now will go the way of the Baroque Musician? The Composer is another story. In 50 years will any one remember Stevie Ray? Hendrix? Zappa? Time will tell. To say Mozart was nothing new is well... strange as he sticks out like a sore thumb for that period. Every period has good and bad music. she is leaning toward the good for this period.

  • very well said !! She can play a guitar with such class

  • I hate how real music is dying...not because of musicians like Kaki King, but because the audience that says,"Hey this isnt Fiddy Cent or Some asshole screaming incoherently into a mic while some other no talent idiot plays three power chords hidden behind 17 distortion pedals!!" Its the people who talk most shit that dont know their asses from their elbows when it comes to music... The shitty audience keeps the supply of shitty music rolling oof of the conveyor belt...

  • Couldn't have said it better. What used to be considered as real music has been dismissed as "old and outdated" and the "new and fresh" honestly just smells(in lieu of sounding) like a rotting fish.

  • she's extremely talented!! well done!! :)

  • to anyone that does not think this is song,

this is just another style of music all together

close your eyes & listen - if it doesn't bring you places

    your not ready to listen

i remember opening my ears to progressive jazz & fusion-

very hard at first cause i grew up on blues rock & pop

but as a musician, when you learn the rules then you can start breaking them - & i personally think Kaki is there

  • LA AMO

  • i think this one is great, nice rhytm, nice accents, nice accords, nice sound!!! subtile changements... i think you're just infected with mainstream-thinking about "artistic intelligence", when you would not be able to appreciate this piece...

  • Ah I love the way people think. If this was an ugly man, pretty much everyone would think this song sucked. But since she's a fairly hot woman, people give her respect for playing a truly awful song.

  • it's not that she's just a fairly hot woman, it's just that she's created an image for herself. Because of that image of being an artist and an "individual", she can create whatever music she wants and people feel like they have to respect that. I've listened to her album and seen her live, and her entire attitude is just generic "i'm above the world" artist crap while writing dull simplistic compositions. If you want to see a real gifted fingerstyle guitar player, listen to Michael Hedges.

  • i think we've all listened to micheal hedges. so why cant we listen to something different?

  • I know, dude. She's got chops, to be sure... But people like Nancy Wilson or Gabriela Quintero destroy her. I like how she's LESBIAN so people are giving her attention.

  • I love it. She knows her shit. I love the percussive-ness of this piece.

  • I think I could play a duet with her just while improvising that crap!

  • Actually that stuff is pretty cool I would like for you to try that. For what she is doing it's very clean and you should hear her other stuff. I am a new fan.

  • lets see your video of you doing this.

  • You are right about the melodic but technique she uses is hard but not so hard as you can never learn I think. She is not the lonely one who is able to do that I think! I saw such a way to play guitar by Andy Mckee but there really is melodic!

  • I disagree...these kind of layered compositions make me ecstatic. Maybe not everyone can appreciate music this complicated, but there is definitely plenty that's melodic about this piece.

  • "Music this complicated"? I'd argue that this song is overly simplistic on top of sounding bad. The composition isn't particularly intriguing, and it's actually painful to listen to during most parts of it.

  • Total rubbish!!!!

  • this is quite good

  • i have a new crush...her work on the Into The Wild soundtrack was amazing as well

  • amazing!

  • I love this...

  • this is awsome!

  • I could listen to this over and over...Still sounds like magic going through my ears.

  • i Love Her!!!!!!!

  • i really am amazed! AND very pleased to hear a girl play so great. most (famous) Guitar heroes are men..

  • This girl is amazing.

I love how she plays around with her tuning almost everytime she performs.

way too much talent for one person.

  • prima

  • hey where is this girl come from????

  • She's from america.

I would guess part cambodian or something but no. She's from Brooklyn i think

  • thanks?? are you a fan?? what do you know recently about her...

  • Im a fan. I just read about all of my favorite artist on wikipedia and watching interviews.

  • she grew up in atlanta, but moved to ny for college.

  • ohhh guau!! hey what do you think about she is playing with Tegan&Sara????

  • Like her or not her style of playing is very demanding in the skill department. It doesn't appeal to everybody, that's fine, but some people seem to think that warrants a blunt attack on her music.

  • does anyone know what tunning she is using?

  • Yeah, good question. Get any answers?

  • not yet...

  • Probably A E,A,C#,E,A,E. That's what it sounds like to me anyway... although I may be totally wrong...

  • Probably open A: E,A,C#,E,A,E Although I may be completely wrong...

  • Probably open A: E,A,C#,E,A,E Although I may be completely wrong...

  • Probably open A: E,A,C#,E,A,E Although I may be completely wrong...

  • I think open C# G# D# E# G# D#

  • she is a genius.

  • interesting, soulful, ... not self indulgent. She's better than 99% of guy guitarists out there and I'm a guy. It's a shame people don't recognize something as amazing as this when it's right in front of them.

  • no I'm not gay. I describe music as interesting when it's interesting. I've seen maybe 100 different guitarists live, probably heard 1000+ in my musical endeavors. Taking all those into consideration she is in my top 10 favorites. I think being gay means you're attracted to the same sex, I like good music and women. But thanks for the insight.

  • Nice reply. Look at his profile: he's a popular guy!

  • haha damn.nice BURN

  • yam412v your an idiot. This is made obvious by your comments, and the fact that everyone who has wrote in your profile is saying the same thing. It is interesting music, because it is different and yet pleasant to listen to.

P.S. do society a favor and jump off a bridge.

  • learn to use a thing called brain before typing in a webpage, please.

  • We all know what you suck. You naughty boy.

  • I saw her perform this on "Later with Jools Holland" and I was absolutely gobsmacked by her guitar mastery

  • Wonderful

  • it surprises me the ammount of people attacking her work, FANS OF HER MUSIC DO NOT LET THEM GET YOU ANNOYED!

  • The bit at the start that keeps coming back is the only bad bit.

  • There's room for all kinds of guitarists on this planet, and this chick has an honest stake on her own claim... She'll get lots better as she grows and we'll get blown away.

  • for some reason it reminds me of someone slapping a bass

  • Let it be said- this girl is crazy, look how she plays guitar. Brilliant! I can't do it. I have seen her in Athens, Ga. the best show yet to see. Go Kaki-

  • Yeah it sucks. You kinda have to be a musician to appreciate stuff like this. It's too bad people can't really understand how much effort it takes to learn a style of guitar that is complex not as a melody but as a polyphonic rhythm.

  • what's the point in learning a style, if you can't make music out of it...?

  • shutup you with ya polly uhhhh wanna cracker?... where am i? ps very good the way she taps with the what i assume to be nail extensions... i tried playing phunkdified with a thumb pick lol aint happenin

  • That was awesome, you are the reason I LOVE music!

  • this was .. messy in my opinion.. where's the melody?

  • Melody doesn't apply

  • apparantly... racket is awesome!!!!

  • it is very rhythmic but sounds like your more pleased with tearing down talent because it doesn't fit your narrowed scope of what music should be. Why don't you just go listen to Nickleback or whatever it is you like.

  • wow, everyone saying "where's the melody" pretty much has no idea about music. or the appreciation for it. not to mention the effort, time, and talent required for a piece like this. especially being the writer. what the fuck, you guys need to be shipped off somewhere. and take your greenday and britney with you.

  • ah come on Leave Green Day alone.

  • just shows that practice pays off. good job kaki

  • AMAZING! Check out Enver Izmailov, if you'd like Kaki, you'd like Enver.

  • perfection!

  • awsome

  • Very nice Kaki ....Are they your real nails????

  • her fingers must just be on big callous. AMAZING.

  • Anyone that doesn't fall in love with her at first, go listen to the rest of her songs.

    BRILLIANT!

  • she's incredible! I love her!

  • genius

  • it takes alot for all variables to be "perfect"

  • that was good....

minus the knocking sounded like shit...
