@OldMrMemories I was looking at some "vintage Los Angeles" videos, ran into this one, and I was marveled, no appalled at just how great LA once was, there was this elegance and cleanliness about it. I grew up in LA in the 70's, then I still remember LA was nicer, I've seen it deteriorate at the hands and influx of so many who simply come to the city, to the country, to just take advantage of it, to destroy it, to cheapen it. You and I, are not alone at our assessment of present day LA.

Man this is awesome! I always thought most time skating on pre-urethane boards was spent falling, and breaking arms and such. Skating had a horrible reputation before urethane. Danny Bearer, huh? Sorry he died. Would like to learn more about the pre-Z-boys days. It would be a really good subject for a documentary.

DANNY BEARER...THE ULTIMATE GODFATHER OF SKATING...died this week Sept.2009. his funeral was today Oct.2...at Saint Monica's in Santa Monica.

danny is the first tall blonde on this vid and the First World Champion EVER in the sport..in 1965 ,,,,heart attack at age 59.

he will be forever remembered for his fluid style and tricks that set the standards for the billions of kids who ever will or who have,,,skateboarded. R.I.P u old stick,,,,my good old friend. "peace-out....danny...peace."

Love this old skate vids. I got my first steel wheel board back in the early 1970's, it was old and used when I had it given to me. I bought my first new board in 1974, it was a Cal 240. I still have it in my basement along with many other old skateboards I used back in the day.

Yeah, this video is classic, I attended, and skated at, a few of these schools. I was Dogtown era age, but I was good friends with Danny's little bro and hung out at their mom's house a lot as a kid - got to see Danny's old photos and trophies.

This video shows that skating was always about something to do when you couldn't surf. The Hobie boys would have been doing the same stuff as the Dogtown boys, if they had the wheels (with the possible exception of Bert's).

clay wheels is what killed it till the new ones came-out about 8 yrs. later, then the dogtown era started. the surface had to be cleaned of any small rocks, or else u went flying.
