  • I got a korg emx. it's got a great sy virtual synth engine don't get me wrong but if it was half as good as this I would shit myself

  • I cant wait to get my MK1 Odyssey! Its true, analog instruments fill up a presence far bigger than any VST ever will, especially on one instance without doubling voices with doubled compression :v

  • Is this what Denny used on The Grand Illusion?

  • Is the sudden jump in resonance @ 0:30 the bandwidth limit error I've read about thats present in this models filter?

You have created such a lovely ROUND sounding bassline in this video, it reminds me of a lot of early electro and techno tracks from the 80s.

  • A link has been added for this video on the Ultimate ARP Odyssey Resource Website

    Nice job.

  • AAAHHHHHHH!-MAZING!

  • I still remember that ARP stood for Alan R. Perlman, the creator of this great synth.

  • unknown fieLd(AnaLog)

  • that machine does some good ACID

  • very cool.

  • SO SEXY *wants one* my GAIA is nice, but I MUST HAVE THIS

  • Nice chair, also nice oldschool sound!

  • and i've yet to hear ANY vst plugin come within a lightyear of this sound

  • This is so galactic.

  • i recognized the DAF sound immediately . superb machine!

  • nintendo sound

  • arp sounds the best! shame that they dont make them like that anymore :(

  • @spikkel70

tsjek yaself a mighty mc beth!

  • YES.

  • Compliments to the operator.

  • Little beast!! :)

  • great sound and great beats

  • nice

  • This sound makes goosebumps!!! :D

  • Interesting about analog machines.....two instruments are enough to fill up an entire track.

  • Retro, what's better for snappy fat basses ala DAF,nitzer ebb,old school ebm, this or pro one????i'm about to pull the trigger on one of this 2.

    Superb video once again :)

  • @thefirstonetodie

the Pro-One sound is more clean with a bit more punch. both synths are great for ebm

  • @retrosound72 Thx!!Guess i'll get the odyssey mkIII first,since allready have a six-track wich i love,nasty synth:)

  • i can't for the life of me figure out the beats that the hi-hats come on. Can someone tell me?

  • @hankvessel

    TR-606

  • @retrosound72 great thats the drum machine, but could you possibly message me the drums sequence, i.e, the bass drum comes on the blank/blank, the snare on the 2-4-and, etc.

  • @hankvessel

    BD 1 3 9 11

    SD 6 14

    CLHH 1 3 5

  • @retrosound72 thanks very much

  • @retrosound72

NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! NO WAY!!

  • @hankvessel Counting in 16th notes, 1&a2&a3&a4& (the 4& is open hat)

  • BANG hammer Sound!

  • so here you have the drum sound is coming from the roland... and then theres the pro-one sequencer throwing a sequence to control the odyssey while you manipulate the odyssey modules, right?

  • @mynmyself

    yes

  • @retrosound72 thanks it sounds nasty and sexy

  • this sounds so goooooooood

  • did this machine the drums too?

  • Hey man... U into kraftwerk? If so, whats your favorite album?

  • @Getyourbodybeat242

    MENSCHMASCHINE

  • @retrosound72 Semiii human beeeing :D

  • What? They were still making analog synths in the early 1980s?

  • @GateStudios there are still places doing analog!!! If you have some money you can even build your own synths!!!

  • I might be very high but that is the grooviest riff I've ever heard...

  • u can get addicted to this kind of thing. i love this..

  • Have you got the filter mod done on yours?

  • @EdWood2006

    no

  • Reminds me of the Harold Faltermyer Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack songs. Love it! I wish ARP prices hadn't gone through the roof - I'd definitely have one sitting next to me right now in my humble bedroom studio set up otherwise.

  • What is the best Arp Odyssey to get out of the three model?

  • @EdWood2006

    for me the MKIII

    I like the filter sound.

  • @retrosound72 I picked up a MK2 a few days ago! The thing is super sweet. I'm going to pick up a Kenton Pro Solo MK2 and trigger the Odyssey from Cubase. I think tweaking patterns is so much more fulfilling than trying to play a dodgy bass riff and then trying to tweak the sliders with your right hand. I'll post some vids of the MK2 in full flow when I get the Kenton.

  • @EdWood2006 It's your choice. All Odysseys are beautiful :D

  • I'd say the Mark I after personally playing that model and hearing numerous sound demos (:

  • I`m talking about the first synth you can hear in "Hall of Mirrors" .

  • Do you have any idea of what kind of synth/effect was used on Hall of Mirrors, by Kraftwerk? Looks like an echo, with up shifted notes following the first played.

  • great arp

  • Nice Jam

  • Nice video,

What are you sequencing the Oddy with?

  • SCI Pro-One internal step sequencer

  • This is a classic synth. ARP Odyssey was the rival to the MiniMoog in the 70s. We know who won that battle but this is still great synth. I have a Pro-ONE which I think was as good as those as well.

  • Hi- Do you know by any chance the synths used on the A-Ha song 'The sun always shines on TV'? I am trying to find those sounds.

  • this is the Yamaha DX7

  • @retrosound72 where could I get the power cords for an ARP Odyssesy?

  • I'd kill for one of these. I have watched your videos thousands of times, keep them coming!

  • :)

    thanks for watching

  • Your demo vid is tight.I love the sounds this thing makes.I can hear alot of the 80's pop and new wave groups that must have used this.I know Herbie Hancock was using an ARP Odyssey back in the 70's.

  • i like sis music, dance round room with pants over head...............woaaaaooow

  • dont compare organs with synths

  • @nuffaction lol its a nice organ, strange thing to comment though!

  • The Arp Odyssey Synthesizer, and the Hammond B3 Organ, will always be two of the best sounding keyboards of all time. Make no mistake about it.

  • we all do our tastes teh hamond great arp allso depending of the music style and he colouryou will want to give to the tune your rig will varie i do have two rhodes , a moog arp , clavia stage and a clavinet i probably would like to have an arp like here but yea you cant afford everything

  • @pascalray: I don't understand your point. Maybe is because of your grammar. or spelling. Be that as it may, The Arp Odyssey Synthesizer and the Hammond B3 Organ, will always be the best sounding keyboards ever built. Just about every musical groups in the 70's and early eighties, used both keyboards exclusively. Even today's Jazz musican's still use a Hammond B3. I wish they would bring the Arp Odyssey back into production.

  • Excellent demonstration of some of the Odyssey's potential. Classic keyboard!

  • its like an amped up sh 101.

  • A friend just gave me one.

  • how can i buy it ......ns tec

  • this is the first vintage analog synth i want to get ughhh so awesome!

  • better still pick up a good used alesis ion online for ^$600 or less online..watch his ion vids..it is equal to 4 of these or minimoogs ect stacked togethor with full polyphony and midi ect!

  • what makes you think i want an ion?!

  • where can i steal one of these?

  • @billyhigdon I have a TR-808 that needed knobs a didn't look as good plus nobody at the thrift store knew how to test it and they could shelve it so, being the local geek they gave it to me for twenty five cents. I hope you have as much success and will save me an Oberheim as well! Merry Christmas wherever you have ended up and you as well, Retrosound72. Continue to give up the funk!

  • @billyhigdon why stealing?

  • good find :-D great demo!

  • good find :-D great demo! superbe sounds

  • @billyhigdon this guys house?

  • beautiful sound

  • this thing is amazing!

  • any1 know a good synth i could get for with a max cap of 400 or 500 or so dollars tht can get like an owl city sound? im trying synth pop and im new with all this.

  • microkorg is probably best for that money. has a fairly pop sorta sound.

  • lucky guy !

  • I see now where all those scifi sounds of the 70s came from. I want one!

  • try the EMS VCS 3, or also called "the putney"

  • dude I like this more then an 303 Nice !!!!!

  • I like the Oddy also more then the 303 :)

  • How much do these things cost? Where might a person find one? Any thoughts?

  • ~1500 $

  • @retrosound72 Yeah, but where can we find them?

  • ebay, musical instrument online markets....

  • not only does it sound good but

    it is beautiful too

  • mark III VS white faced VS mark II??......i say white faced ftw

  • for me its just a dream :(

  • Dream can come true) Just believe in yourself.

  • That's the best bass sound I've ever heard

  • Wow! great sound! the oddity emulations don't sound like this...! :(

  • Emulation program emulates the perfect circuitry inside old synthesizer. But 70´s machines are far from perfect. Circuitry, if thats correct word, maybe electrical circuits, is full of flaws, noise, drifting, clipping, crosstalk. And THAT´S why they sounds better. Like more live, deeper, warmer, organic.

  • i cant get this kind of sound from my moog, am i just shit? :( HELP

  • Moogs are decidedly not Arps. Moogs are from Venus, Arps are from Mars. It's like trying to get your Rhodes to sound like a Wurly! Pshh! Or your tenor banjo to sound like a 5-string banjo! Yeah right!!

  • Pretty Hot And Tempting (P.H.A.T.)

  • Is that related to the V Of Doom?

  • FAAAAAAATT!!!

  • nice groove. thanks

  • your square wave is a decent TB-303 substitute.

    this vid is aces

  • :)

the oddy is sequenced by external step sequencer! (Pro-One)

  • sounds GREAT !

  • I got a change to play this at school some years ago. I could not playing stop after 1 hour. Very good sound.

  • man, this video sounds incredible... my first analog synth was an arp odyssey about 10 years ago and i just realized i couldnt make sounds like this.. it was definitely broken... now i feel bad i sold it for a few hundred more than i payed for it

  • nice! i have six arp odyssey synths, and my wife still loves me!

  • damn, you have to make a polyarp video.. play minor chords!

  • Ever think about giving them away? Say, to maybe a guy who commented after you on Youtube?

  • would u like to sell one ? ;)

  • the trigger in,or out of the arp? to the pro one?

  • pro one CV OUT to arp CV IN

pro one GATE OUT to arp GATE IN

  • hel i would lke to know how did you your Arp to the Sci (pro one) and have the pro one sequence the Arp.I understan who the 606 is controlling the time tempo...you use cv/gayw to your pro one..thx it would help me great,,its the coolist thng what yout dooing

    thx

    program 17

  • 606 LT Trigger Out-->Pro-1 Clock IN ---> Pro-1 CV / Gate Out--> Odyssey Trigger / Gate IN

  • wow thats some propa acido sqwelching, sounds fukin ace makes me wanna twist some knobs on my microwave and skrunch up my face..

  • That´s analog synthesizer from Gary Numan´s Tubeway Army... Billy Currie played on it in 1979 in song "Are Friends Electric".

  • The wind is music to my ears :)

  • I'd love to see Arp synths come back like Moog and Dave Smith stuff have.

  • What a tune awsome 5/5

  • thx :)

  • simply amazing!! takes me back in time, hhahahaa.... sounds like kraftwerk. I'm really proud of human domination over the sound!!! Wunderbar!!!

  • thank you :)

  • thats awesome

  • thx :)

  • its the beginning of all the technologic music dude...

I play rock and have much respect for it.

have respect for all types of music!

    Nice beat x) !

  • :))

  • HOW AWESOME!!!

  • OMG It's the machine that brought us the theme of the Viacom V of Doom, you guys!

    Dunnn-Duunn-Dunnn-Dunnnn-DAAAAAAAH!

  • ...

  • i m wondering if these sequence or arp patterns are build in in this synth??, cause i have a jp 8000 and korg p6 for example with quite unusefull patterns. I probably can program the jp 8000 but i haven t found the time to check it all out :)

    grtz

  • the odyssey is sequenced by the Pro-One internal sequencer

  • Awesome! This video proves there was something before the Roland TB-303 and SH-101. Thanks, Metrosound.

  • Damn, I AM partially blind. I meant, "Thanks Retrosound."

  • :)

    thank you

  • OH SHEET!!

    sweat noise!!!:)

  • where/how can i download this?

    I love it!

  • I have no mp3.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!! :D NOW I know why this synth is soooo popular. NICE!!

  • Awesome, amazing and incredible. Great job!

  • thx :)

  • you forget the most luscious thing ..

Some filter fm modulation from the s/h mixer ....

    Next time ?

  • check my last oddy demo with fm modulation from the s/h mixer :)

  • This is amazing! Is there any thing like this that would still be on the markets today? would it be like a groove box type thing?

  • damn. i'm in love.

  • how do u record them to pc? and isnt it hard to remember the song u made liek yesterday? like with all those different nobs and triggers?

  • all vids are improvisations

  • no i meant like if u were a professional artist?

  • semi-professional

    ;)

  • i meant, like take aphex twins come to daddy song, how did he knw what to press exactly on stage and when making the song?

  • Years of experience :)
