I remember hearing from some friends of mine that apparently the team ignored Alan Wilkins (the historical consultant) advice on a number of counts as they thought it might make the machine too expensive. An example of this is that Alan Wilkins wanted the catapulta to be made of oak or ash but the BBC team went ahead and made it of PINE.
Leaving aside serious questions about the quality of the work done on this show, I will focus briefly on the trivial: Caroline Baillie there is a bit of a babe!
@kyleisreallycool It's true guns were used pretty widely by then. But it would often be used alongside guns because they were much cheaper. Cortés used catapults
I tend to like anything where they attempt to recreate ancient technology and weapons, but I hate this show - the presenters are a pair of complete cocks.
Roman was the best in the would at the time, and one of the best in human history! Nothing-laughable about Roman Artillery! I was laughing about what they did and said about the Roman Artillery They would not admit that they simply built it wrong, or did a bad job on it.
I just made a example: I can see people in the year 4000 AD remaking a US artillery from 1998, and only fire half a mile! A US artillery can fire 15 mils Get it?
an ancient archer couldn't fire more than this lenght. the roman archer was worse than the medieval. the roman arch was of half meter, and the medieval was of 2 meters.
and if you want to destroy the wall to enter in the city, you will shot gigant rocs.
It's obviously not a team of experts...its got a woman on it.

2000 years! rubbish, people were still building catapults just big as that, if not bigger till about 400 years ago
northreach 3 years ago
Not that kind of catapult, a trebuche (sp?) is not a roman catapult.
delamoxica 3 years ago
I know, but they also used Mangonels and large ones run on basically the same principles
northreach 2 years ago
@northreach 400 years ago they had and used cannons not catapults

yeah it makes you think what sort of weapons they will have in the year 3000. Then people might be laughing at our weapons.

In the 2nd video one guy of the team
sayd that he found a "document" where he read that the weapon could fire 120 meters and not 400 as Vitruvious says.
I think it's bull shit, it's only a pretext because they aren't able to fire it more than 90 meters without breaking it.
It's impossible that during the siege of jerusalem this ballista was stationed within 120 meters from the walls of the city.
It would be a favourite target for the jews
archers. What do you think about this??
