  • Es erscheint einem aus deutscher Sicht etwas Robotermäßig. KOmisch was das mit Schneid zu tun haben soll...

  • What would happen to a person if they are not quiet?

  • @wunderboy64 they get yelled at! lol there are a few videos of stuff like that around here!

  • My brother-in-law is a tomb guard

  • I'm in the Marine Corps and after watching the "Changing of the Guard", this guy next to my asked if the guards get paid, and I said "No", it's a national honor to guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

  • @FSXMASTER223

Of course they get paid, just not any more than any other person in their pay grade. They probably do get a larger uniform allowance.

  • I saw this in August 2005. Awesome experience.

    USN, MM2 (NUKE/SW) 2002-08

    USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) 2004-08

  • shinydiscoballz1, no there the Dress blues i heard were gonna be using them for a long while still but idk ill be here to get them if we do

  • those uniforms the Honor Guard are wearing are the new ASU for the Army starting, i think 2012?

  • @shinydiscoballz1 No they're not, theyre Dress Blues, very different set-up and appearance.

  • Can we stop the weed wacker in the back ground?

  • i don't know if i'm just saying this because i'm a soldier, but i do believe that this might just be the most intense discipline i've ever seen of any branch from any country. we train our boys right!

  • You need to check out the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team - same discipline. However, this duty means a lot more because of what it stands for.

  • i was in a MCJROTC. i know what the silent drill team is (and how they drill for the commandant every day). these soldiers are nothing but pure discipline though. i kinda wish i had gotten this in my contract.

  • I agree with that. The changing of the guard is pretty much the pinnacle of drill and ceremony...that's the only thing you guys got though. Funerals, Drill Team, etc...I think the other service got the Army beat, by far.

  • @atheist6in6a6foxhole I could watch that gun twirling FOREVER!!! SUPER COOL!!!

  • I really do believe this must be one of the greatest places in the Army to go ... to guard a piece of the very memory of the men who never came home, and to be so squared-away. Their very discipline is astonishing, to stand so still, to never relax at their post, to wear such a heavy uniform, I hold them in the highest regard.

The Old Guard ... let them forever remain vigilant at their posts and never be anything less than who they are.

  • i went to arlington and got to lay a wreath

  • I agree dattreklub - I was fortunate enough to visit the US in 2005 and witnessed the changing myself - totally flawless and very impressive. I will post my video - its the same Sgt on duty in this vid as the day I attended.

  • Guys a job well done! It you ever have the honor to see the old guard carry out a internment at Arlington. It will blow you mind.

  • I know a member of the Old Guard. He's told me stories of their tactical preparations when the President is in town-sitting with loaded weapons in hand, ready to move out any moment if something is to happen. He didn't work at the Unknown, but he was on one of the 3rd's best drill teams.

  • has it allways been oh god i want to say m-14?? no what ever has it ever been a nother type of rifel like the m1 grand

  • This was the first time I've seen the commander do anything to a sentinel. I was surprised enough when I saw him reach up to the sentinel's cover, then he reaches in, as if to smooth out the fabric of his jacket. I would be interested to know if anyone else has seen something similar, only live. One would think that any imperfections would have been addressed before coming out to take the post.

  • yep...search Changing of The Guard-Inspection under my user name. Look at 1:54 for some lint being removed.

  • Well, it's not meant to be a form of disrespect. The guards actually spend 2 hrs to get ready for guard duty/dressing. The guard inspecting the man is duty bound to fix anything that he feels is out of the norm. I've seen a video of the inspecting guard fix a man's shoulder ribbon. It's really no big deal. The inspection is actually meant to finalize anything that was missed. Nothing more or less. Because he "fixed" the guard's cover doesn't mean that the guard didn't care.

  • I agree that it wasn't meant as disrespect. Certainly, the inspecting soldier is required to fix anything he finds. Inspection is exactly that, and ANYTHING that needs attention certainly should be attended to. I love watching these guys. Their discipline is inspiring!

  • i have seen something like this in person. the commander picked a speck of dust off the sentinel's jacket. the uniform is prepped beforehand, but part of the commander's job is to address any imperfections that they see.

  • I saw the changing of the guard this summer and it really made a huge impression on me. I'm not sure, but as far as I remember they always take 21 steps in 21 seconds and after that they have to stand still for 21 seconds, and so on... Am I right? And the changing of the guard is the most praiseworthy preference for the US soldier. I was full of admiration how could they even keep on moving that day- it was something about 95 degrees.

  • yes. all 21

  • I wish I lived near Washington, so I could see this in person. Any Old Guard members on here, you always make our country look good with your professionalism. Great job!

  • Thank you, the Old Guard is still to this day the best job I ever had. I felt that I had accomplished something at the end of the day. Being able to honor our nation's heroes was a great pride and joy of mine.

  • I've never seen them lay a hand on the incoming Sentinel during the inspection.
