as i said before excellent technique but your forgetting the basics first the technique is a response to the attack, which you do not show! And secondly you have to much build up to the technique. I assume if you practice sabaki gata you do this technique daily! So build up leg muscles!
@ceekay96 Its my student. It is only jump kick practice, not application. He is squatting low and jumping high as exercise. And he does happen to have very strong legs, he can pistol squat 15 times with a 72 lb kettlebell in his hands, that's above average.. ;) Thanks for the comment.
First, that is a huge jump!! I wonder how high you could ollie as a skater.
second, not tryin to bash but legitimate question: is this plausible for real-life defense? It seems like such a high risk move for the possibility of missing and ending up on the ground...
@braintrama Hi it's my student. We do it because it is a traditional technique in our art and great exercise. As for reality, personally I'd rather kick the guy in the groin.. ;) Thanks for the comment!
Thanks guys! First build up to doing pistols, also stretch until you can put your face on your knees while sitting legs straight. jump high and pull knees into chest, then extend legs. My students do 100 jump kicks per day as part of Daken kihon...
Truly impressive. I just finished 8th kyu and I was wondering if whoever posted this has any tips on getting a good high jump? I can only do Tobi Geri Taihen with one leg, but I'd love be able to do it with two.

@braintrama No risk as any genbukan member knows how to land without hurt... but I wonder why he is not wearing his genbukan signs...

Can anyone learn to do this or do you need to be ultra athletic to begin with?
