Probably one of the bands that best describes, EXACTLY why I love metal. Pure perfection. I'm baffled at the string gages? 52's? I've never even considered that and I play D standard in my band.  Have you made the transition from 42 on up or have you always been used to the 52? I've never gone above 46.

i have a question...whenever i try making E phrygian dominant songs like you guys i always end up making like 5 different riffs end when i put em together it doesn't sound very good....is it because im supposed to make like one or two riffs and break them down?

@TheAdamGore if you're on about the GP5 tab on ultimate-guitar then all you need to do is open the file, dont press play, just go to file, then export and it should say guitar pro 4 format or something like that, so just click that and save it as a GP4 file and it should work fine. it what i did anyway :) the tab is wrong in a couple of places though, but you can work those bits out from this video (Y)

depends what you tune down to my dean was in standard then when I got new strings it wouldn't go back to standard tuning live out pulling my floyd up to high out of the body so I've got it in C at the moment, when i got my guitar the guy in the shop said they dont like being tuned to drop D.

Tool is prog rock dude, not metal. At very best might be able to be considered Alt. Metal, but I personally don't think Alt. Metal should exist as a genre, since it kind of contradicts itself.

Not saying Tool's not a great band, but yeah.

I wouldn't define the music by the vocals. To me, the style of playing determines whether it's thrash or not.

If you look at some of the older thrash bands, Testament, Anthrax, Metallica etc, the vocals are more melodic than the new style of literally just screaming over the track.

It's just my take on it.

@Iamthegherkin Sir, it annoys me when people call vocal distortion "just screaming". It`s a pretty difficult vocal technique, which takes couple of years of practise to master. Anyway you made your point, and opinions are opinions.
