I have the 45 of this by the Highwaymen, sounds exactly the same only the narration is done by Burt Lancaster. I'll have to try and dig it out and play it again.I used to play it to death.Thanks.
This song and the movie paint a very sympathetic picture of Robert Stroud who was the Birdman of Alcatraz. He was not really allowed to keep birds while at Alcatraz--his work on birds was at Ft Levenworth. In actuality Robert Stroud was a homicidal creep (he murdered two men) who wrote homosexual kitty porn in his cell and jail was where he belonged. But I still like the song.
@gotaiwai I'm a guy of your age and like you love this song so much that I've been searching it for more than 45 years but in vain. It is a golden oldie song that unfortunately has never been put into broadcasting. Thanks heaven, I finally got it today.
Although this song came out in the summer of 62 as did the movie version, it was never played in the movie. I don't remember the Highwaymen as the original artist . Any help out there???

This is one of the classics of the Highwaymen in the 60's. What is the name of the movie in which the song was played as a theme song?
