They are Shoegaze...they are real grunge distortion...they tapped into the real energy within music and were in it the vortex of noise in the moment of purity
in time in imagination and a original moment, moments.
FYI - Brad gets that nasty distortion by running his guitar through a Yamaha 4 track cassette recorder and overdriving the preamp, then running through the rest of his pedal board.
These guys played a show with Swervedriver at Bogies in Albany, NY on Superbowl Sunday, 1994. Me and my friends hung out with Brad and smoke joints right there while everyone else was out front at the bar watching the game. Loudest fucking show I've ever experienced.
I feel like these guys were better than My Bloody Valentine. At the very least, their work trounces anything that's not Loveless and goes toe to toe with anything on Loveless. You can't deny their incredible influence though, but it would have been cool for these guys to get more recognition
@marvinedominguez I didn't start listening to Medicine until much later but I think they should be held in near equal respect to MBV. Gotta say that Isn't Anything deserves major love. I respect Loveless but I listen to IA more over time.
Hadn't heard much about this group outside of their brief appearance in The Crow, but that brief appearance was definitely one of the cool things I remember from that movie. This song is just as instantly memorable - I don't know what it is, that riff just grabs you by the spine and won't let go. And don't get me started on the vocals...
@MrRazorz well..let's get started on vocals :). I think her voice justapoxed against all the distortions make it stands out more. You would think with angelic voice like that, you would want to accomapny it with something like piano or violin but putting her voice against all that industrial distorions take it another level.
For awhile now, there's been talk of adapting The Darkness into a movie, with "a clear nod to The Crow in mind". If this comes to the fruition, please pull Med back together to perform this song sometime during the movie ala. Time Baby
Because they have like..4 good songs but not really great ones. This one is awesome though, but it's like CCR, they had all good songs, but never made one #1 hit.
u have a point but apparently u have not experienced the disappointments in life that the rest of MEDICINE fans have that help us truly feel this music. i won't tell u your musical taste is poor,or that MEDICINE is the greatest band out there. all i can tell u is,this music is not 4 u,so please spare the negative vibes 4 main stream bands that deserve it.
It's true, they probably would either suck or be making music that's totally different from their 90's releases if they stayed together. Shoegaze exhausted itself as a genre pretty quickly. I think brad laner is still making music, if anyone's interested.
because they were ahead of their time ! they beat A Perfect Circle to the punch but it was way 2 soon, and they couldn't penetrate the main-stream-mentality with such a scattered group of fans. MECHANICAL FORCES OF LOVE is the only vended album them right now. check it out,THEY ARE STILL AWESOME!
some 1 sell me SHOT FORTH SELF LIVING,HER HIGHNESS,BURIED LIFE,& n e thing else done by MEDICINE.e-mail me with offer.they r my 2nd fav band next 2 NIRVANA!
yep, I remember hoping this album would be good and it Blowing my expectation out of the water. They were actually really exposed in the 'alternative scene' .Pretty revered to this day as musicians.
The Cd has a Pink Case and Sliver paint on the liner note ! cant download that eh? I miss the process of hearing the cd start spinning. dont let me get started on Tape hiss and record crackle =D .
If you like this check out the band that inspired them. My Bloody Valentine. Kevin Shields was and still is brilliant. Used to fall asleep to this when I was 15. Great stuff!
I found "The Buried Life" today for $4. I didn't think God cared about me anymore. Now there is hope!
