Has Russia's Amber Room finally been found?

Ok, I see.. Now I point out that beside the Army there was the "Einsatz Stab Rosenberg" very active in moving art treasures al arround Europefor the nazi governement and even Hitler himself. To recover endangered art, confiscated art, to sell it, or to donate it, make museums, too in the future. They listed everything!! That was their way to do it.The way they transported art is documented with photos they made of each object. They used wooden crates. If the castle burned down,theCrates were too

All the amber was found and recycled to become cheap amber jewelry sold in tourist shops after the war.

@NickVenture1 Im not sure....The last place the amber room was for sure was in Kaliningrad(Koningsberg)in late 1944 It was kept in the old castle ruin that was burned buing the fighting for the city------many ships left Koningsberg(or Nahrung)but the ones that was sunk has been checked,no amber..The amber could have melted(???)in the burning castle but would leave some trace..

@RebelSonBand Hi, I was just joking.. but who knows.. even if the amber was boxed-up in transportation cases, german army style, those could burn, but bits and pieces would have been noticed. Russian soldier, even most uneducated ones would have kept some souvenirs.Has ever a small piece been identified which was not plundered prior to the dismantling in 1941 in the Petersburg area castle?Maybe Rosenberg and his team moved the amber westwards in 1945,he was in charge of art and treasures.

@NickVenture1 I think that the amber was burried somewere,possible in the area of Koningsberg where it was last located for sure-------perhaps in a coal-mine in Schleisen like Gorings private treasure ?? If the russians had found it,we would know for sure...Dunno if any piece ever surfaced,I dont think so..

@RebelSonBand I need to educate myself more on the subject.. Now I presume that the amber was mounted into wooden pannels which dated from the 17th century or so.. that these had to be taken carefuly boxed up in special crates.Probably quite large size crates and lots of them.. which means a little convoy of trucks (smaller than today) was required to move the treasure.They need orders, gasoline, people attached to this mission.Hard to believe that germans didnt put that in writing..like always

I always beleived that parts of the amber room was used for Hitler elevator at the eagles nest and a secret room was made for the amber room to be placed on hitlers 50th birthday the amber room was a gift

my grandad was a sargent in the german army he confessed to me that he and four other german soilders who were guarding the the amber that they were so cold that they decided to chop up the amber into fire wood to keep warm during the winter i suppose they are classed as nazi war criminals for destroying a work of art

@funtimefreddy34 they only did what they had to do to stay alive the russian front was not the best place to be many German soilders will tell you that's were the Real war was they had a Hard enemy to fight did not have what they need to fight it and the cold killed many

I recommend a book called "The Amber Room". Little bits of trim were recovered (some rosettes, I think) but there's an unfortunate likelihood that it was accidentally burned during the Russian attack on that German castle near the end of WWII.

Amber is much too soft to withstand heat or flames.

@ROCKSLIDZ Thanks, interesting. The little recovered parts are the best lead to understand where the main parts are gone... Of cause small parts could have been taken as souvenirs already in 1941 by some soldiers in the castle beside Leningrad. But the germans very much controled art treasure matters and the chance that a soldier stole parts in 1941 is slim, punishment would have been up to execution for plundering! In 1945 the situation is different, if the amber was unboxed by fire and left.

Where have you read the amber room was Polish? Just a simple question. In every American source I read, internet or otherwise it says it was created in Prussia (Germany) and given to Peter the Great of Russia. Maybe in Poland they say Poland created the Amber room, but they could also say Poland never lost a war both would be laughable.
