I never cared much for the Mendelssohn concerto. Thanks to this video with Ferras playing it now I love it. What an emotional and deep sound he has! Thanks so much for uploading!
Like the one by Max Bruch, one of the most poignant violin concertoes. Played here by one of the finest virtuosi, it washes over you like a wave. Ferras' passing was such a tragic loss to the world. As elcid22 says below, God bless you, Christian.
Such a fine example of authority in interpretation here. Ferras never allows himself to be mesmerized and distracted by the mere sound. He was a disciplined and truely noble musician of eloquence and refined taste, so unknown in our time. He leads with the melody as the musical line draws him like a flower is drawn to the spring sunshine as is life itself. Lesser soloists are distracted and meander needlessly and the music dies on the vine. This man understood what ART really is.
Le meilleur et "THE Maitre" en son temps.... Merci C.Ferras !

I too think he is one of the best. He brings out the emotion of the music like no other.

This is worth watching for the different (unique) bowings and fingerings... and of course the suffusion of feeling :-)

In my opinion, this man was probably the greatest violinist ever, in the real sense of the word "great".
