pete is the biggest master off them all. he is a huge protester against nazism and i think the songs around and around hitlers grave describes that fairly well.
Seeger is not a master. He was a member of the Communist party when the Communists signed a peace treaty with the Nazis ( 1939m ) When asked why he was a friend of Hitler and Stalin Seeger said he was trying to prevent WW II . My foot. Seeger organize boycott against Israel like the Nazis. He insulted the Jewish musician Bob Dylan because Bob Zimmerman was playing Folk Rock instead of Acoustic Folk. Like Saddam Hussein Seeger gave $ 30,000 to the families of suicide bombers.
this is my favorite pete seeger song...so much optimism...when i despair for the world its the song i think of...and i know when he finaly leaves us one day i will think of these lines..."so we keep on whilst we live/unitl we have no more to give/and when your fingers can strum no longer/hand your banjo to young ones stronger"
I was last weekend with Pete grieving over Mary Travers passing..so early&young still.Held the hands that warmly beat and still firmly string and pen those thousands of songs. He had a great voice to word a brief but good line for me still.
Like that gypsy-indian shirt you got there for the show,Pete!
Now,where I could get me something so fancy but timeless as the flowers each spring?
Have many more springs and flowers/songs old yankee maple tree friend.
Pete Seegere es parte de la historia de Norteamérica. No sólo su música, el vale también por su personalidad y el poder de su palabra... Un grande de la música mundial.
His Grandson Tao seems to be following closely in his grandfather's footsteps. I love how in the few videos I've seen of the 2 of them performing, you can catch him looking at his grandfather adoringly. May God bless Pete and Tao.
His grandson Tao has performed with him for almost 20 years now. That's who Pete has within his family. In terms of speaking through song, there's lots.
Pete is not only an american. He belongs to all the world to all nations. He is the world citizen. He should go for the Nobel Peace Prize. I have never been in the US, but Pete has always been the world hero. He sang what others tried to say in words
I really admire Pete Seeger and what he stands for! the message he sings is something we now have a chance to do! if we STOP letting the media divide us by racially motivated articles and come together and MAKE the politicians ACCOUNTABLE to us and not the LOBBYISTS and CORPORATIONS we will see a BETTER AMERICA.
He has done his part in showing us the way, now we NEED to do our part to carry out the mission...what's it going to be people?
He is not only an american hero but an world hero. Why hero? No he is not a hero, he is a common man standing next to me whenever I need him, he is there.
I've been listening to pete since birth (i'm 26), and for me, there will never be a better, more beloved musician. His voice, social conscience, musical scholarship, incomparable mastery of the banjo and guitar, and of course writing and influence on other performers combine to make him perhaps the greatest musical figure of the 20th century. What a shame that he's largely unknown!!
God bless you Pete. You've given us more than any politician could ever give us. You were right, and they are now starting to realize just what you were talking about. I pray it's not too late.
Its wonderful to read that so many of you love him Nearly as much as I do. Make sure you hear him do Masters of War on his albulm Strangers and Cousins. It is so powerful it should be a video clip of huge importance. Also the way he does Golden Thread on this albulm is so special. It has for for over 40 years been my favourite song. This is Ben Perkins opinion currently Queenstown NZ
Pete Seeger is a true visionary. He was singing about peace love and speaking out against the established way long before it became the cool thing to do. Glad to see he isn't forgotten.

Yes Manuel, and his performance at Obama's inauguration was triumphant.
To perform a song once banned because of its politics was cause for celebration across the world.

This line made me sad
'And so keep on while we live
Until we have no, no more to give
And when these fingers can strum no longer
Hand the old banjo to young ones stronger'
Has Pete got anyone like him to hand the banjo too?
