The pause before 'perdorno' should be that long - it gives Almaviva time to realize his folly. And all of us time to see the bigger picture. Respect those you live while there's time.
This Finale made me cry! When the Count kneels and asks forgiven is the most beautiful moment of this opera... Mozart is Mozart! For me, he's the best :)
I'm sorry; I doubt the Count's lying, cheating days are over. He is still going to be the Count; a powerful land-owning lord who can sleep with whomever he wants. These were sexist times. The "Contessa Perdono" apology sounds a little too much on the hammy acting side so I never believe he will change. LOL
thanks for your reply. yes, I have since found out that the only way to get it is to pay a fee on the Met website for a one-time feed... unfortunately, because it is such a lovely recording. esp. if compared with several others widely available commercially...
I think Thomas Allen is perfect as The Count and only a great singer like Raimondi could have interpreted so personally Figaro. This production is awesome, but when I think at Mozart...
What greatness!! I saw this production on a tiny television when I was in college...one of my first exposures to opera. I have been looking for just this production for 24 years. What sheer brilliance, the cast, the orchestra, the production...even the best tempi. When Susanna sings "La mia voce?" Yes, your voice indeed. Sublime.
I absolutly love this opera, and this is my very favorite performance of it! Thank you so much for uploading these!

This truly is the apotheosis of music since the beginning of time. It is so utterly perfect, the mind reels.

Excellent! Saw it at the Met that season.
Can you tell me where you got it? If it is a DVD I could not find it even at the Met shop...

The strings are tuned up insanely high in this production. I'm surprised no one has commented on it.
