if escrima is so good then why is it that silat users or masters end of gettting the win against eskrimadors???? is it because escrima isn't a effective martial art and only good for begginers like kids 12yr old and younger???? if thats the case then i lost all respect for eskrima and believe it is the word pieace of shit that you can take in martial arts and should be recomended not to take it
With due respect, according to the interpretation of some people, Eskrima is derived from Kali. In a way, it's like Judo from Jujitsu. Some consider Kali to be Silat's brother (or sister) art which makes Eskrima the nephew. It is said it's because they were practiced together so that each complements the other. Mixed Martial Arts if want the modern term.
I dont down play any art out right as I know that some one may be very talented and yet train in some art that I may not really be fond of. You may find out that Escrima/Eskrima is generic and may include different families of FMA.
Escrima or Kali is meant to break or kill..So it's probably not the best idea to hit your sparring partner.. I have practiced for 3 years from my grandmaster who learned from the last bloodline of this art... I think everyone should learn this art and yes it is like a dance it.. It helps you to build coordination and balance.. We also work our hands and wrists to make them strong especially fighting hand too hand.. As well as pressure points...
Having trained with Sifu Bolden of AMAA, he would have beat me if I used my live hand like in this video. Several opportunities to practice largo mano and take out not only the live hand but the stick hand as well. The choreographed moves are necessary to develop muscle memory for attack and response - but giving muscles bad memory isn't recommended. They are getting there and I applaud their hard work.
Once again as it is seen too often in FMA's: guys quickly hitting sticks on sticks, drilled to do so with their partners. However, their bodies don't show any abilities to attack, to guard, to intervene, to angel. Fearlessly they keep their heads up, their eyes seem bored with the routine. They are used to circle sticks, but not to confront someone.
These drills are fine to practice your footwork while you automatically do pre-arranged and memorized strikes. And - you're right - their footwork exists. However, to me it doesn't seem it's the main focus of THEIR exercise. But of course I don't know'em and maybe I'm wrong and you're right. Sorry IF I was judging too fast.
I read that it's best to keep your fist closed because your weapon could easily be disarmed if you use that technique. However, I don't practice Eskrima/Kali so I wouldn't know.
lol thanks ive studied and practiced taekwondo for 5 years. i have an idea what it takes to be good. i stopped tho cuz i was unable to afford the monthly fees. my passion turned to bboying and im also taking it seriously.
damn, just a year can be tedious. Ah I'm just a n00b, I've only had 2 classes so far. Bought some escrima sticks so I can practice the 10 basic strikes before I sign up for a weapons class in the months to come.
And you still go through it a little at home right? I thought that was what we are supposed to do even if you leave class because some of this stuff sticks.
it shouldnt be tedious if youve only had 2 classes! whenever i went to class i would expect to be pushed to my limits. thats how it should be. your there to learn so u can improve yourself. not waste money and time. and yes you always go through it in your own time. even always in your head. depending on how serious you are. hard work pays off. n u gota have the heart and drive to do it to get best results. its a different now tho cuz now everyone can learn a lot just off the internet for free

Millions of years ago in the Philippines. The Spaniards executed anybody they caught practicing eskrima for 450 years. It only survived because it was disguised as a dance
Really Fucking weak Fam. Im sorry but it is . If you ever in the mood to see how its really done check us out pluse kicking your ass would be fun.Glenn C. Abrescy is Escrima but more then that he is Kemscrima Doh Headquarters: East Wind Martial Arts 1635 G. Street Merced, Come get a beat down!
Escrima is a very flexible art... it was taught that any weapon can be used by an escrimador. may it be a kris or the humble ball pen, anything that can be used will be used by an escrimador. and escrima has very complex footwork that wasnt shown in this vid. MABUHAY.
all of mine do footwork is the one key to martial arts that most people are missing . while it is true that we work footwork by itself for begginers then add it after few weeks you should try to be sure to emphasise it in your videos otherwise people will mistake you for a fraud . ok.
If those were knives, i hope you wouldnt block them with your hands :p
dougerber - yea, maybe you can get a gun for less, but learning to shoot one is harder then point and click. Only way to learn how to shoot proficiently is to do it. Ammunition can be expensive depending on where you live.
I'm an Infantry soldier, three times deployed. Before I was in the Army I was on a team that trained POST (Police) defensive tactics. I was also in the medical field. I carry a weapon concealed. I shoot competitively. I promise you, a gun is an option not answer to everything... even for a proficient person. Someone with a screw driver within a couple steps can take you out long before you clear that holster. Martial art is the art of combat, why would you train one area and neglect another?
Why do people always bring this topic up on a martial art/weapon combat system video? Yes its true that guns are more efficient and deadly than a weapon, but most people who train for SELF DEFENSE and walk around casually dont bring around guns -_-, youre also missing the point that martial arts are also sports. You dont bring guns to one of those now do you. Kali/Eskrima also has hand to hand systems.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
no nonsense? this looks like a number from "stomp". what a waste of money. you could get a pistol for less than the cost of two martial arts lessons. true you can't bring a pistol everywhere, but it's actually easier to carry a gun than to carry two sticks
this is pretty funny :) you dont have to carry two stick, you can find em on streets. however you can use enything for a stick, twisted newspaper, umbrella etc. it's up to your imagination :)
true it may be easier to carry a gun then a stick but you won't be pulled away for a gun then a stick and someone with a stick can hit you much easier then you can pull out a gun and fire it's not about how efficient something is but how useful it is a stick can be very useful in close combat then a gun
I like this style very very much! Using sticks are very practical, I know swords are better, but no body carries a sword, and with this style, escrima is about stick and knife fighting.
Now you know how, 500 years ago, even with guns, canons, swords and plate armor, Magellan/Magallanes and the Spaniards were killed by the Filipinos led by the warlord Lapu-lapu, the only datu who did not submit to and was never impressed by the conquistadores show of strength! Look for "espada y daga" vids...
Some movements are similar between escrima and chinese broadsword. The empty hand can be used to grab the wrist and strike to the head can be defended and counteres in very similar fashion (roof block). Many escrima movements can be applied to short, light swords of similar length.
I need some help. I have done my homework and I want to learn martial arts. I am very interested in Escrima(as it was featured in Bourne movies and I got very interested after that). 1st question: how good for self defense is it REALLY. Also where can I find a place to learn. I live in Tallahassee Florida and It is hard to research locations for this town(though its the capital we dont have much like Orlando or Miami). Please Message me if you have good answers to my questions.
In my opinion, people that get caught up in the "I know this style, that style, and that style arguement" are just looking for recognition. It takes a lifetime to truly master 1 style/system let alone 2. People who get caught up in the "My style is the best arguement" prove what little knowledge they have. Every system serves its purpose. You can always find something useful in all systems. Peace and harmony to all practioners of all systems.
well where else do you think the pros are at? the phillippines but if u wanted to see it by pros i would go look it up on google and search there cause there is the one escrima with tori but that's like the same thing pro teaching alil technique so yeah look it up on google
why would training in the Phillipines make you slower? I know lots of guys that train at the Inosanto Academy, and they are just as fast as anyone trained in the Phllipines.
wtf? uhh no, knowledge is upon all of us, i have no grudge against that kind of thing. Main difference between international and original escrima for training is, that the international, doesnt have the descipline to train. Go train at the phillipines and youll know how different it is.
I don't have to. I have trained at the Inosanto Academy. I have trained in Villabrile Kali, Serrada Escrima, Largo Mano (Leo Giron), Pekiti Tirsia, Lacoste Kali, Lameco Escrima, Panatukan (Ted Lucaylucay, Illustrismo Kali, Doce Pares, and many other Filipino styles. And ALL of them trained us the traditional way. You don't know because you weren't there.
Ahahha? I dont know because I wasnt thier? Some of those masters are not real masters. True masters dont aside thier selves in the modern world. Most masters live thier selves by nature. If I didnt train with the true masters, then I wouldnt be given the title the eskrimador dragon. If you went to all those academy's, one of them must have told you, make your own escrima moves is the path to dragon. I was titled eskrimador dragon, my own moves resembles a dragon.--
--Only the true masters, and modern masters gave me that name. Some of the masters dont look down on us, because they look at us as if we are squaters and vagrant. Surely after all those "academy's" you went, you must have heard of the eskrimador tiger and eskrimador bull. If I were you, dont seek out the path of dragon, until you truely understand the difference between international and original eskrima. Get my point, period.
I would think that masters could be any where. Besides the base line of martial arts is deffense, if the use of your system saves your life then GOOD it did its job end of story. This whole endless debate about which martial art is better, who is a master and who is not it's so tedious and pointless. If your system can protect you and save your life from the common enemy, than it works. If not...well you're gonna be in a lot of pain or dead.
I always thought it was Master(Pangulo), Instructor(Guro), and student(estudyante/iskuwela). And EVERYONE is a student, unless they have originated the art (Grand Master).
There's no need to get defensive. Let me rephrase my question: Where did the titles of Eskrimador Tiger, Bull, and Dragon come from?
I've never heard of those titles until now. I am currently studying Serrada Eskrima from Vincent Cabales. I will ask him about it at our next session, but I would still like to hear from you. Thanks in advance for your attention.
let me say again, these masters aside thier ways from the modern world. your "masters" dont know of our existence. as I much want to share it to the modern world, i cant, so find another one that know of this. I can only tell you that the dragon was leaked from a spy in the making of escrima. a renegade chinese was and a loyal japanese was fond of this news. since the tribes were meeting, some chinese and japanese developed thier own. for not to help the war but to inherit our great ways.
Dragon: China (triad lands)/Cebu, Phillipines/somewhere in buthan
Those are were the styles were made. I think my facts are not true but thats what the master said. These styles were taught to the mafia hitmen, pro killers, and mercenaries like black water. Lets say 300 men that know these styles are like the 300 spartans but more better.
no its not it takes years of practice u hav to train your physicla and mental strength. No One is born naturaly with any skill... but this vid is not done by any means professionalls. The vid is still amusing though i give it a 4.
do you have a video of professionals i can watch? i would like to see a video with professionals, just to see the difference...all i find on youtube are just showing techniques or basic level stuff (in my opinion). id like to see something done by the pros..
i used to take Kuntaw when i was younger..Escrima was like my fav. thing to practice..but dam, its been almoust 9 years..i still remember how to do it..haha.
My sons are half Filipino and I would like them to learn some thing from their dads heritage. I'm Hispanic and they will also know my traditions.

Escrima is a very flexible art... it was taught that any weapon can be used by an escrimador. may it be a kris or the humble ball pen, anything that can be used will be used by an escrimador. and escrima has very complex footwork that wasnt shown in this vid. MABUHAY.

all of mine do footwork is the one key to martial arts that most people are missing . while it is true that we work footwork by itself for begginers then add it after few weeks you should try to be sure to emphasise it in your videos otherwise people will mistake you for a fraud . ok.

dougerber - yea, maybe you can get a gun for less, but learning to shoot one is harder then point and click. Only way to learn how to shoot proficiently is to do it. Ammunition can be expensive depending on where you live.
dogabutila 3 years ago

Kali/Eskrima also has hand to hand systems.

no nonsense? this looks like a number from "stomp". what a waste of money. you could get a pistol for less than the cost of two martial arts lessons. true you can't bring a pistol everywhere, but it's actually easier to carry a gun than to carry two sticks
dougerber 3 years ago
this is pretty funny :) you dont have to carry two stick, you can find em on streets. however you can use enything for a stick, twisted newspaper, umbrella etc. it's up to your imagination :)

true it may be easier to carry a gun then a stick but you won't be pulled away for a gun then a stick and someone with a stick can hit you much easier then you can pull out a gun and fire it's not about how efficient something is but how useful it is a stick can be very useful in close combat then a gun

I like this style very very much! Using sticks are very practical, I know swords are better, but no body carries a sword, and with this style, escrima is about stick and knife fighting.

Now you know how, 500 years ago, even with guns, canons, swords and plate armor, Magellan/Magallanes and the Spaniards were killed by the Filipinos led by the warlord Lapu-lapu, the only datu who did not submit to and was never impressed by the conquistadores show of strength! can you convert escrima training to use of swords or chinese broad swords?
nikolo727 3 years ago
To Nikolo:

Please Message me if you have good answers to my questions.
gat0rbball 3 years ago
In my opinion, people that get caught up in the "I know this style, that style, and that style arguement" are just looking for recognition. It takes a lifetime to truly master 1 style/system let alone 2. People who get caught up in the "My style is the best arguement" prove what little knowledge they have. Every system serves its purpose. You can always find something useful in all systems. Peace and harmony to all practioners of all systems.

because these guys didnt train in the philippines, thier strikes are a bit slow.
cebuanoguy 4 years ago
why would training in the Phillipines make you slower? I know lots of guys that train at the Inosanto Academy, and they are just as fast as anyone trained in the Phllipines.
brucew22 4 years ago
Ok, but for the "way of the warrior" you have to train in the jungle, you have to feel it.
cebuanoguy 4 years ago
you just don't like it that white people can learn kali
brucew22 4 years ago
wtf? uhh no, knowledge is upon all of us, i have no grudge against that kind of thing. Main difference between international and original escrima for training is, that the international, doesnt have the descipline to train. Go train at the phillipines and youll know how different it is.
cebuanoguy 4 years ago
I don't have to. I have trained at the Inosanto Academy. I have trained in Villabrile Kali, Serrada Escrima, Largo Mano (Leo Giron), Pekiti Tirsia, Lacoste Kali, Lameco Escrima, Panatukan (Ted Lucaylucay, Illustrismo Kali, Doce Pares, and many other Filipino styles. And ALL of them trained us the traditional way. You don't know because you weren't there.
brucew22 4 years ago
I was titled eskrimador dragon, my own moves resembles a dragon.--
cebuanoguy 4 years ago
--Only the true masters, and modern masters gave me that name. Some of the masters dont look down on us, because they look at us as if we are squaters and vagrant. Surely after all those "academy's" you went, you must have heard of the eskrimador tiger and eskrimador bull. If I were you, dont seek out the path of dragon, until you truely understand the difference between international and original eskrima. Get my point, period.
cebuanoguy 4 years ago
I would think that masters could be any where. Besides the base line of martial arts is deffense, if the use of your system saves your life then GOOD it did its job end of story. This whole endless debate about which martial art is better, who is a master and who is not it's so tedious and pointless. If your system can protect you and save your life from the common enemy, than it works. If not...well you're gonna be in a lot of pain or dead.

yeah thank you
cebuanoguy 4 years ago
Eskrimador Tiger? Bull? Dragon?
I always thought it was Master(Pangulo), Instructor(Guro), and student(estudyante/iskuwela). And EVERYONE is a student, unless they have originated the art (Grand Master).

are stupid? did u even understand what i said? go deeper you idiot. if you really want to learn it, then go to behind the npas lines.
cebuanoguy 3 years ago
stupid? idiot? npas lines?
There's no need to get defensive. Let me rephrase my question: Where did the titles of Eskrimador Tiger, Bull, and Dragon come from?
I've never heard of those titles until now. I am currently studying Serrada Eskrima from Vincent Cabales. I will ask him about it at our next session, but I would still like to hear from you. Thanks in advance for your attention.
Meliton J. Geronimo III
Spreadlikejerms 3 years ago
let me say again, these masters aside thier ways from the modern world. your "masters" dont know of our existence. as I much want to share it to the modern world, i cant, so find another one that know of this. I can only tell you that the dragon was leaked from a spy in the making of escrima. a renegade chinese was and a loyal japanese was fond of this news. since the tribes were meeting, some chinese and japanese developed thier own. for not to help the war but to inherit our great ways.
cebuanoguy 3 years ago
Tiger: North korea/russia (europe part)
Bull: filipino renegades/country side japan
Dragon: China (triad lands)/Cebu, Phillipines/somewhere in buthan
Those are were the styles were made. I think my facts are not true but thats what the master said. These styles were taught to the mafia hitmen, pro killers, and mercenaries like black water. Lets say 300 men that know these styles are like the 300 spartans but more better.
