good info. I'm currently trying to find work for April 2010, and it's interesting to see the wide range of positions available. Unfortunately the starting salary range is pretty low nowadays.
So should you come over on like a JET program for one year at first, or is it still possible say if I were to come out of College with an Education degree and then be able to get a teaching job over there?
One thing really impresses me is the good relationship between a str8 and a gay guy. That does not happen everywhere. Do you think you guys can have a good friendship because you are in Japan, which means you guys have a common identity as a bear lovin' Gaijin before your sexualities? I hope your wife/partner would not be jealous. hehehe
(Two-Kay) Here. Great Vlog guys keep it up. I still live in the US but I'll be trying the JET Program and love to ALT in Kobe. My question would be, since you live in a big city, what are some of the top places you like to eat and/or drink. Any local bars or restaurants that you would recommend. I see a lot of J-Vlogs talk/show a few places they love going too, but I'd like to hear/see about the top favorites.
I'm in the process of applying for the JET Program, and I was already considering ECC as my main backup if I don't get in. Nice to hear some confirmation that I'm heading in the right direction with that.
I don't know if this has been answered elsewhere, and it certainly isn't a question for a video to be made about, but what software does Kevin (and now PJ?) use for editing videos?
Kevin here....I use iMovie9 for the Mac. I'm pretty sure that's what PJ is using these days as well. I'm thinking of upgrading to Premiere elements...
Thanks for the info. That was a good heads up on the ALT companies. Another very important question I am sure is on everyone's mind is what the ladies think of foreigners.Of course this question ranges to all areas of Asia you have experience with. Thanks!
hmmm...what i was thinking i would do is come on a tourist visa, then look for a job..do the whole go to korea for a while thing...it would be risky (moneywise) if i couldn't find a job...but stil...
oh, plus! i know i asked this before But just as a precaution if you forgot i made a request/suggestion that you guys make a video showcasing some of the internationism? of kobe
I don't recommend coming on a tourist visa and then changing it in Korea or the Philippines... very few reputable employers will pay for that and there is the risk that immigration will deny the change even with a job in hand...
About the 'internationalism' thing... I am not sure how Kev feels, but it is something that might not translate as interesting in a short video segment, but if we find a way, we will let you know.
I was about to ask a question on clothes shopping but I think you've already spoke about that so I wont annoy you and ask again instead I'll simply say loving the vids! Your both awesome keep up the great work!
lol when you two make videos together something always distracts you in the background lol the umbrella falling guy walking by remodeling the building now the air plane lol great vid good info
Interesting, coz I thought 250,000 yen/month was the typical teacher salary in Japan. But apparently its not, so I'm wondering what a decent teacher salary would be?
Ok ok, minimum wage for a teacher is a bit rough. So what should a teacher actually be paid in Japan? Its like 52k a year in Oz, which increases each year up to the eleventh year.
oOps came out wrong, that should me "Oh ok" but yeah anyway isn't there like a set wage for teachers in Japan, like Oz? Even assistant teachers do not receive minimum wage over here.
I work for a dispatch here in kyushu so just thought i would chime in...
your def correct Jet and Eikaiwa are the best ways to come over..
but as a single 20 something guy, even though its less money, I think work as an ALT is WAY better than at an Eikaiwa. I couldn't support a family now, but my quality of life is so much better.
About summer vaca, here its pretty common to have the month off, but to receive your contract completion bonus during that month so its not too bad
Thanks for watching and glad your position is working for you, but I think you are luckier than most, as bonuses are very rare in the dispatch field...
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing this information. -Kurt :-)

In some places in the world people use many hand gestures while talking. Are there any of those gestures that are concidered to be rude in Japan?

Decent is a very relative term. 250k is the legal minimum from visa regulations...

I'm particularly interested, since my wife & I have recently entertained the idea of teaching over there.

Do they have wheat beer over there in japan?
all i see is pilsner... and somewhere in a video i saw guinness, but ...
Do i have to poison myself with suntory crap over there or do they have a choice of different beers?
Tass1701 2 years ago
I am a big fan of weizen (wheat beers) and there are plenty. I've reviewed a few on my main channel. I think Kevin has as well...

awesome. I'll check it out asap.
I must have missed those videos
