To light most of my scenes I used a three point lighting system which is commonly used in the film industry.
Basically I'd have two directional lights as my key light (the one that cast main shadows), and a fill light... I then used either a point light or ambient light as a back light.
The movie is built up of 12 scenes (seperate Maya files)... and they were then rendered individually using Maya Software (would of used mental ray but it would of taken ages).
I left the scenes to render over night and had to set times on my alarm so I could get up and set my computer to render the next scene. It must of taken 12-18 hours though to render it fully.
Yea, I tryed that lecture, i did it first time, but i just didnt get it after that :s im not really into animation (yet), i just like creating things via modelling..Thanks man. Good luck with youre course too :)
Hey thanks man, glad you like my animation... yeah there's some good stuff in them videos. The best way to learn Maya is to just get stuck in and try new things.
thats what in doing now :) just making a quick character atm. following a guide, its pretty hard to follow though because its based on maya 4.5 lol xD but yea, i really like doing things like this, pro-desktop and other stuff... how long did all that take to make?
I think the courses may differ for Animation. My course was Creative Media and I required so many UCAS points to be eligible for the course as well as Cs at GCSE English, Maths and Science, however that may have changed by now.
If you want to know the exact details I suggest you look at the courses you're interested in as they usually list their requirements.
Oh yea..I didnt think about that :P Sorry...Thanks man, ive got the torso for my character im making :P Its not bad, considering ive only had Maya like a few days, and I havent been on it much...Hopefully it'll come out good :)
I cant do animation though :s havent really got round to it, im probably gunna make this now, and maybe just make a quick video of it to show people, but im using the learning edition too :) probably wont finish it soon because i gotta do my GCSE's, had my first one today, Additional Higher Tier Maths, it was actually easier than i thought but still,
That is mint, what a great imagination, guess what, I'm doing the same module in a months time....eeek

Urm... its hard to tell exactly cos I did it over time... I think I spent a day modelling the guy and rigging a skeleton for him.
Probably a day to model the house and make textures etc. And a few hours to model the watch and texture.
But once I had that stuff I managed to do the animation, model any extra bits, and render the movie in about 5-6 days.

Wow...Youre really good at this..Any specific A levels or AS (or even GCSE) required to do these types of courses? I love things like this..

One of the videos by HullUniLecturer gives a quick guide to creating a motion path to circle around an object, so you could use that.
Concentrate on your GCSEs for now though, they're important if you want to do AS and A levels. Good luck with the exams.
