I think when he says soy sauce he means fish sauce.. I love this soup. I use green tomato and I add a few teaspoons of vinegar to make it more sour.

I think by "garlic chive" he means chive or Hẹ. Note that these are Asian chives not the ones that are found in regular grocery stores. This is not the authentic canh chua but quick and easy. I'd not cook the tofu with raw fish. This is gross. Put tofu in after the fish is cooked.

I think this recipes is a simplified version of the actual authentic Vietnamese Tamarind soup. I don't know how to cook, but I have eaten several tamarind soup by different cook (my mom is the best one ^^)

However, this is a very creative way of cooking tamarind soup. It is perfect for students or whoever live alone. It's simple to follow and it works.

So, if you are looking for a simple tamarind soup, or you don't have much time. This is a good recipe.

I am a Vietnamese and let me tell you please do not follow this recipe. This is noway how we make our soup. We will never use soysauce to season the soup and please no garlic.
