I've read some discussions on this topic of why Filipinos in America deny being Asian. One Filipino said is it's because Filipinos would rather be Polynesians than to be Filipino. Is that right? Every Filipino party I have been to have Polynesian dancers but never do they have a traditional Filipino dance.
You just have to do some research on your heritage and culture if you cared enough, poster. You could say we're probably among the first EVER racial hybrids in the world. From the beginning of our history, we've been a mix of these races - namely Malays, Indonesians and Aetas (Asian aborigines) and later on Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Western. You should be proud of our culture because from the get-go it's among the most diverse in the world.

Peninsulares is the term used for Spaniards born in Spain, while Insulares has usage similar to the term Filipinos. Those who have mixed blood, either Spanish-Filipino or Chinese-Filipino were called Mestizos. It was only in 1898 that Indios or natives began to be called Filipinos.

There is even a debate among the Ainu in Japan, of whether they're mongoloid or caucasoid. Some people perceive "asian" as the people/culture of East Asia. If we go by that definition, then some Filipinos are asian (some have Chinese, Japanese, and Korean blood) and the others are either Malay or Hispanic.
The people of the Philippines differ from most of Asia because of its long history of colonization. But it is still uniquely Asian.

Some people perceive "asian" as the people/culture of East Asia. If we go by that definition, then some Filipinos are asian (some have Chinese, Japanese, and Korean blood) and the others are either Malay or Hispanic.
The people of the Philippines differ from most of Asia because of its long history of colonization. But it is still uniquely Asian.

Peninsulares is the term used for Spaniards born in Spain, while Insulares has usage similar to the term Filipinos. Those who have mixed blood, either Spanish-Filipino or Chinese-Filipino were called Mestizos. It was only in 1898 that Indios or natives began to be called Filipinos.

@sheen5ful Not all Filipinos are of Spanish descent. There are some Filipinos, yes, but not all. Most are of Malay blood, some of East Asian blood, and the rest are of different races.
True, our country was named after King Felipe.
We adhere to some Spanish traditions and our names sound Spanish, but that's because Spain invaded the country for 200 yrs.
Lastly, most of the Filipinos of the South are Muslim. You must not exclude Mindanao from the Philippines.
