Back pre 80's they were about but what happened to them. Officialdom most likely killed the sport off?

i am sitting watching this with my 8 yo daughter on my knee, explaining how these mad men have to shift their weight to keep the chair on the ground all whilst travelling at 150+ mph, just like my dad explained it all to me. Haven't been to the island for years, but we have just made a date for next year, I always liked the side-cars even thou my ald fella race solo.
