  • @DRP996 ask your girlfriend how I was.

  • song name?

  • Would Mordian Blue work for this?

  • @vernonvideos I think it would work. I like my crimson fists to be darker...but it really is your choice!

  • Hi, thanks for the tutorial! I use it as I paint my CFs, though I use a slightly brighter palette!

  • I think you all need girlfriends or a fast car

  • @DRP996 I have both, thanks :)

  • @DRP996

    trololo

  • super vid.thank you

  • Have you done a tutorial of a chapter master?

  • Looks good, I have this box set, I'm actually looking for a Ultramarine Chapter Master, can anyone send me a link or two of the ones they think are worth buying from ebay. Just need a genaric one.

  • @DocRiot114 Hey Doc,

I would have a chapter master, it would be metal, but I think you would like it. Or even the Captain from AOBR.

    Cat

  • thanks this vid was just what i was looking for cheers

  • pure art.thank you so much

  • How do you make them shine, pleasse help :)

  • @TheGizmo3331 I do not add any varnish or coating to my models. The sheen you may be seeing here is a little bit of sheen the asurman blue wash gives the blues. Other than that it is just GW paint. If you wanted to add a real shiny effect, GW and other mfg's make a gloss varnish to coat the model in (I am not fond of that kind of effect overall on the models though) I just use that gloss varnish on goggle eyes, targeting eyes, scopes, etc.

    Cheers!

  • what is a good holder while painting should i use my fingers or tweezers

  • @TheJayman6200 Hey, some parts are good in your hands and some times they are best in a holder. Just play with it and see what works best for you!

  • vary nice

  • I like your version. I have been painting Crimson Fists off and on for about 10 years and will be starting it back up again very soon. What are your thoughts on a light drybrush of regal or enchanted blue on the armor to brighten them up a little? Mine seem nice up close but look like dark blobs on the table. Thanks!

  • @Aaronjb55 Hey,

I like when the Crimson Fists are a bit on the darker side, as long as you pick out all the bling on them I think that brightens them up enough. The problem with regal blue is It is so very close to necron abyss that I don't think it would really brighten up the model but it may make your model look sloppy. To put wear and tear on the paint of the armour, I would try drybrush regal blue then ultramarines blue then a very thin line of space wolves grey on common wear spots.

  • @Catattafish Do you know any good way to clean your pensil after you painted with it?

  • How do you make a priming rack, how did you do yours - help me please - i want to make one :) thanks!

  • @Tawkiie Hey,

I used a 2"x2" piece of wood and mounted it to a 2"x4" piece of wood, but simply using a 2"x4" would work. Then go to Staples or an office type store and buy the paper "clamps" (not clips). Then ya go to your local hardware store and buy little wood screws that have large enough heads so that they won't pass through the metal clamp handles. Now turn the clamps upside down and put a screw through the one metal part into your 2x4. Done. Cheers

  • hey i was stuck on how to paint my crimson fist this helped alot thanks very much greatly apreciated

  • I'm not 150% sure if i'll be able to commit to a lot of hardcore gaming, would you recommend getting something like a tactical squad as a test drive painting before something big like Assault on Black Reach?

  • @legionare117 Hey, all the individual troops can be expensive as well. I would suggest go on ebay and look there for a tactical unit, but yes that is a great idea. Now mind you, don't be too concerned with painting at a high level when you just start. There is two parts to this hobby, painting and playing. Some just like to paint and never play, and some just like to play and hate painting! For most tournament rules, you need at least 3 colors on your models to field them. Cheers!

  • I know this is your version of the Crimson Fists but theres no arrow on their shoulder pads.

  • @AristotlePhysics

    Hey,

The arrow signifies "tactical unit" and so would be appropriate for these guys. Cheers!

  • @Catattafish technically if you look at the creation of the fists it shows that the shoulder pads have the icon of the fist. now you may see arrows on various rhino's but mostly people keep the arrows for ultra.

  • @AristotlePhysics Technically, Crimson Fists follow the chapter rules laid down in the Adeptus Astartes Codex and therefore, the appropriate symbols for tactical, assault, etc., are acceptable.

  • @AristotlePhysics it is molded on there from the assault on black reach set, he couldnt change them

  • @MegaBabybuddha Hey Guys

Thanks for the feedback. The arrow on the shoulder signifies they are a "tactical" unit within the adeptus astartes. It is perfectly fine to leave the arrow on. I could have also cut/filed the arrow off, but felt they were within their right to wear the arrow as they are tac marines.

    Cheers!

  • what army would you suggest for someone that likes to paint them more then play

  • @Rezo123321

That is a very good question! I have limited knowledge on painting the other armies other than Orks, but what I do know is

Eldar/Dark Eldar can be very challenging on shading and getting the colours to blend

Space Marines - TONS and TONS of different models to paint with very intricate details

Imperial Guard - Tons of different armour to paint, painting skin and cloth can be challenging

Honestly, go to the GW website and look at the different models for each army.

  • wow can u do a white scars

  • could you do a vid on how to make a parts holder?

  • Hey, I haen't even got my 40k stuff yet, but before I buy a whole bunch of tools and paints, what are "wahes", what are "bases". I'm new to warhammer 40k and for that matter I'm new at painting. Can you help me out? By the way great video.

  • who will win blood angel or space marine full army ?

  • i played blackreach at a games workshop i live near, the guy who owned the store, he showed me how to play it. he was orks and i was SPEHSS MAHREENZ.

i beat him.. even though we both killed eatchother captains at the same time.

  • god i suck at painting

    :(

  • looks like the how to paint thats in the white dwarf

  • pedro roxxxxxxxxxx..... vote for kantor

  • lol i just started with sisters of battle i call them witch hunters u'm getting a colour scheme going but this vid really helped.

  • pretty cool :)

  • hello great video im just starting warhammer 40k and put my assult on black reach set together before i painted it is that ok if not im stuffed lolz

  • Hey,

Thanks for the comment, it's ok that you put it all together before painting. Many people do it that way, I just find I can paint the details easier if they are apart. Cheers,

    Cat/

  • same here. just purchased AOBR yesterday.. haven't painted yet.. too scared HAH.

    Thanks for the guide!

  • WHAT IS THE SONG?

  • Judas Priest, from Nastradmous (sp) CD. I believe its called messenger of death.

    Cat/

  • Great job! I am just starting my own Crimson Fists chapter. I appreciate the video. Have you painted a tank?

  • Very cool video, thanks for sharing your technique, it's nice to picks up tricks 'n' tips from more experienced painters :)

  • this might be a dumb question but what do you guys use to stick the models to the bases

  • That looks freaking amazing!

For someone just starting out this really helped me with ideas of how to paint my army.

    Awesome tut.

  • Thank you very much for the feedback, you should join the wargaming community on you tube for more ideas!

  • i like to use craft store paints for the same effect

  • Great tut, love the tin bitz on the back pack.

  • can anyone please help me out?....I collect space orks and I just finished priming, base painting, and washing/dry brushing all my guys...my problem is I can't paint detail....my eyes blur off after 5 secs while looking at it....i have a daylight bulb to brighten up my figure when i paint but my eyes just do the same thing....should I maybe buy some type of magnifying glass? please any suggestions will be appreciated....and great vid by the way, ur space marine looks badass

  • Hello,

Yes I do have a light and magnifying glass on my desk. For the most part I only use the light, but for eyes and small details the magnifying glass certainly does help!

  • ok kool, thank u man...i appreciate you replying back to me...ima go pick one up tomorr...wuts a good magnifying spec...like 4x or 8x?.....

  • I've noticed that models that are in starter sets are different from models that you buy in their own pack...is there a reason for this or is it just me? I mean, this space marine does not look like anything compared to the tactical space marines you buy in a separate box.

  • First off, these figures are not poseable at all and are in two pieces plus the base. Other than that, I really can't tell ya because I have never seen the separates close up to compare! Cheers,

    Cat/

  • @Dawn59er The AoBR models are 'push fit', designed for newbies :) Other models are more complicated to allow more experianced hobbiest's to use their imagination and make more interesting model poses.

  • thnks for this vid its realy helped me

  • nice tutorial :) althought i am not crimson fist.

btw 2.46 hilight should be highlight but anyway good movie ;)

  • do you use chaos black to spray the space marine and the jetpack and boltgun. then you paint the marine and then you added the jetpack and boltgun painted right?

  • Hey,

Yes I spray chaos black to all the parts separate (body, jetpack and gun) then I paint them individually, and finally glue it all together.

NOTE: Sometimes it's easier to try and fit the pieces AFTER you spray them with chaos black. I found some of the guns/hands didn't fit properly and I had to do a little trimming. If you do this after the spray can step, the black usually wears off where the fit is too tight; showing you where ya gotta trim ;) I hope these tips help!

  • I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that paints the models before putting them together.

  • Hay what i did was buy matt black spray big one from a hardware store and its only a fiver instead of £7.57

  • Thank you dude , ur a real pro. helped me alot whit my new Crimsons army :D you got lot of Skill.

  • Thanks for the comment, check out my Rhino (Crimson fist) on my other videos.

    Cat/

  • cool This Vid Helped Me to Understand how i paint them!

  • I am glad it helped!

    Cat/

  • Not a bad vid man! Nice job.

  • Thanks Jawa!

As soon as the weather turns crappy, I will restart my painting hobby and hope to post actual videos compared to photoshows. I am a pretty good amatuer photographer so the photoshows show more detail than a video can, however come back and visit and see what I have done!

    Cheers,

    Cat

  • what is your part holder made out of?

  • Hey,

I bought those paper clamps you get at staples, turned them upside down and screwed one side of the metal clasp to a piece of 2 x 4. It's so cheap and easy to make! I also drilled holes in the wood and use tooth picks to hold the arms and some heads. (use the round tooth picks and cut off the sharp ends so the diameter of the pick is what you need for the arms. I hope that helps.

    Cat/

  • plzz i need help i got space mariens andpaint em as blood angels or blue space mariens plzz i need to no plzz

  • I really don't know what you are asking me? :)

  • hey can you do a tutorial for ork skin

  • Checkout my other video "assault on black reach orks"

  • where do you get citadel paints

  • the normal place, gamesworkshop

  • there is no gw in my area

  • then you will need to order online

  • i dont have a computer

  • Comment removed

  • Hey I just bought a 40k assualt on black reach paint set. good or bad O.o

  • Hey,

I believe those are citadel paints which is what I use so you should be quite happy. Just remember to thin them out with water, they are way too thick out of the pot. You will probably need to buy a few more colours to get the models tweaked to how you want.

    G/L painting

    Cat

  • dude didnt mean to be rude just wnted to know because its an AWESOME song

Gonna Start paionting 40k any tips

  • Patience, patience, patience. You will not paint an army overnight. To get a fantastic army you need to put in a ton of time!

  • answer me!!!!!!

  • Thats kinda rude ;)

    Check your inbox.

    Cat/

  • that was amazing. You are pro. grats.

P.S how big is your army?

  • Thanks for the comments! I just have the assault kit done and started working on an ork trukk (Before the weather turned nice). I have a rhino and 2 trukks to complete and then i will be expanding the armies. Watch this fall/winter for more movies regarding my painting.

  • can you make a vid of you in a competition?

  • whut song

    great paint job btw

    P.Swhat brushes do you use

  • yes they come with the bases.most of the time u put stuff on them like sand or grass but it is up to u. it only costs 7.50(euro) and is a fairly big tub.its separate and u dont have to do it but it makes the models look that much better.you can also buy the city ruin baseing kit which is 20 euro and comes with 5(i think) premade standard as well with stuff to make ur own bases. they look quite nice

  • hey got another question rather simple one, when you get minis they come with bases right but their like black and lame, do you put stuff on them? is this stuff expensive? does it come with the minis? or separate? and is it really a necessity?

  • incredible!! can you give me some tips? how long does it take/ mini more or less and will I need several brushes? sick job btw just amazing!

  • Hey there, what kind of tips do you need?

I do "assembly line" painting, which means I paint about 6 figures at a time. If you do one at a time, it seems like you will never get any done, and if you do too many at a time, it seems like you aren't making any progress. 6 works for me.

As for brushes, don't buy a ton of them! Just buy a few, with the most money going towards the smallest brush. I found I typically used my smallest brush 85% of the time.

Thanks for the comments by the way!

  • so should I buy the brushes seperatley? or like a pack with a few thicknesses?

as for the dremmel, do you mean the stuff that's still there when you take it off? or when it's snapped together?

also how could I make a cheap around the house randoms rack?

  • Yes, purchase them separately, and LOOK at them to make sure the bristles are straight and in good shape.

The mould lines is the lines that are left behind after the two moulds are filled with plastic. If you look on the thighs of the models, you will see the lines running down the legs and all around the models.

what do you mean randoms rack?

(parts holder) Buy a few paper clips (clamp type thingys), turn them upside down and put a screw through the metal hanger into a piece of wood.

  • alright

I think I know what you mean btw I don't have anything yet might get it in a week or two.

ok I think I can make that rack easy

I guess I'd find out when I get it, but how are you holding onto the figures at 1:34 it sorta looks like a magnet, I'm not too sure, and the backpack thing you painted that separate right? will the instructions that come with the minis tell me that or is it something that you decide yourself?

  • Hey

No at 1:34 its one of those paper clamps upside down. The backpack I painted separately, to hold them while painting, cut the tip off a ROUND tooth pick, it will fit inside the backpack hole. Easy to hold, easy to spin then while painting.

There is very LITTLE in the way of instructions on how to paint, what colour scheme, etc. You have to figure it out by yourself, but there is alot of resources online for colour schemes. (including mine)

  • any sites you know of? and on the back it has like several colors you'd need to buy to make them look as pictured right? I see lots of marines same as yours in yellow, red and blue, so are they different like factions or something or is it just someones style choosing to paint them like that?

  • Hand this boy a golden daemon!

  • Thank all you guys for suggesting I get a golden Daemon!!!!!!! You are inspiring me to enter a model!

    Cat/

  • Nice man.Maybe Golden Daemon is 4 U

  • Thanks for the comment~! Maybe I will try and submit one this year, (as soon as summer is over and I hibernate back inside)

  • give that guy a golden daemon

  • Thankyou so much Altier for the welcomed comment! Some day I think it would be cool if I entered a competition to see how I did?

  • oh, no problem. i saw the golden daemon stuff this year and i must say, its nice to see a good paint job like yors, it is a lot more vibrant than what most people paint,, and that makes it soooooo awesome. along with the back pack

  • Altier, the color sceem that is "in" at the moment is "realistic" and "earthy" tones so alot of pieces and armies are getting painted darker dirtier colors.

  • oh yeah, i know, i paint stuff in that way because it is easyer and it looks good, yours just is alot better than most because of the contrast between the base and hilightrs

  • Ye I agree. He really could win a golden demon!! and Im not just saying that!!!

  • Thankyou so much!

  • you oh so welcome

  • (...Just testing...) Nice job Catattafish! I've noticed how you have painted first, and then assembled later. I've also done that with a Space Marine (that still needs to have decent decals and to be sealed) myself... Coincidental? No - We're mad I tell you! Painting everything makes them more lucky, y'know... It's about time that I make a vid on this site... Guess what it'll be about? I'm not saying. Kaza.

  • ...

  • love it but it could be realy cool with gold sholder pads and the chest skull

  • Great work! very useful tutorial! Thankyou

  • Thankyou for the comments everyone, I really do appreciate them.

    Cat/

  • i like the way u painted them very nice i am just about to get that set u waz on bout.but i am a bit worryed that i wont b able to paint them

  • Thankyou for the compliment, Don't set your expectations too high on your first minis! Just be happy about what you accomplish, the more practice you do, the better you will get. Good luck!

    Cat

  • Hello i have a question you are cut hands and glue finally ?

    (Sorry for mine Eng ;D)

  • Hello,

I am interpretting your question as do I paint the models first then glue them?

Yes all the models were painted first, then glued once all the paint was dried. Sometimes I had to fix up a little bit if the glue ran, but I just found it easier to paint them with the arms off. Was that your question?

  • Yes you god interpretting mine question thanks for answer.

    Greetings! :-)

  • Very nice!

  • Thanks!

  • why is the regal blue highlight so thick?

  • Hey,

I went for a thicker highlight because I knew the asurmin blue wash would dull it down. In real life, the mini's look really good in the shading of blues. With only thin lines of the highlights, I found that it didn't really blend well and it more just looked like I painted different lines. On the last few mini's, I started to actually blend the two colours of paint a bit for a better shading effect,.

    Cat/

  • ok, thanks

  • intense

  • Its chapter, not clan.

  • Yes I have been told that, thanks.

  • that was awesome, i paint my fists mordian blue, mechrite red and mithrel silver, with baal red wash, and asureman blue wash, but youres are so mutch cooler, how long does it take through to paint them.

  • you do good work keep it up a pleaser to watch 5 stars

  • I dun like highlights :(, makes there armour look to new.

  • Sometimes i put silver where i would put highlights and amke his armor look like is scratched or something.

  • yeah that would work

  • nice vid

  • That wash tidy's/belnds them highlights well.

I paint Black Templar, and its been fairly time consuming to get the sharp highlights that im after, soo i think ill use a wash and hopefully get some better results.

Great video, and amazing looking Crimson Fist ^_^

    5/5

  • im thinking of starting a nid army* first army ever* any painting or unit suggestions?

  • yeah dude, check out hammerpaints guide in youtube on "how to paint nids" its pretty good i use it.

  • sweet thanks for the reply.... ill be sure to post a vid when im done with my army

  • nice

  • Thats awsome! The best space marine painting ive EVER seen. You should be proud of your self! Give yourself a pat on the back. :)

  • Thankyou so much for your kind comment. I will probably be away from the hobby till the fall now, but hopefully then I will have a HD video camera to provide more indepth instructions. Stay tuned! I SO Appreciate the comments as well, thankyou for everyone that has taken a few seconds and made a comment. (By the way, a .doc is available for my Crimson Fists and Evil Sunz painting schemes if you message me and leave a comment.

  • Thats a very good paint jobs

  • say a price for that space marine.

  • I am not sure if there is a price for how much time went into these guys :)

  • MAD NICE PAINT JOB!

  • Hey Guys,

Thanks for the comments. During the making of this video I used the transfer for the crimson fist insignia. However, I had a hard time getting it to sit right as well! So, I scraped it off and all my crimson fist insignia's now are free hand painted.

Jman, what do you need to see regarding how to paint? I have provided the colour scheme for the crimson fists and there are tons and tons of video's on "how" to paint. I will help you where I can,

    Cat/

  • i went to the game workshop the other day i thing im going to start warhammer eneway they gave me a free space marine could you post me a vid on how to paint it ps its all put together

  • whats the best way to do the water slide transfers? I always get big bubbles because the flat waterslide doesnt fit well on the spherical shoulder pad

  • tyr making an incision or a halfway cut into the transfer to stop air bubbles forming.

  • Thats really well done. Would love to see a video tho. 5/5 anyways

  • I would love to see more videos in this vein.

  • well I ve tried both ways and asure blue dosen't do as much as levathen purple. That could just be me. Besides, I found all my washes exept purple half empty so I gave it a shot.

  • Leviathon purple, hummm, that makes sense, thanks for that tip!

P.s. thankyou everyone for your kind comments, I hope it has helped you in your painting endeavors in even the slightest way.

    Cat

  • Levaithan purple would give a deep rich, nearly warm Blue. That may be what you're going for, but you could stick with asurmen blue for a cold, energized look suitable for marine Power Armour...

  • How about a wash of leviathen purple. I find that it deepens the color better than the blue wash. Just my 2 cent.

  • holy s@*$ nice i like all chapters aprt from the smurfs (ultramarines)

  • i dont much like the smurfs, but the exception is the 4th company which i like a bit, still prefer CF

  • it is not that big deal, but a great TT-scheme för crimsons. if this movie was for rookies, 5/5

  • luv the music love th marine top job m8

  • i was disapointed when i got this for christmas of th eammount of marines i got

  • he looks SICK! fantastic job, it would be great to see a video version, especially on how you you created the tones on the armor. i can't wait till payday now so i can go choose my army and start painting :D great job 5/5

  • looks great

    WAAAAAAGH fellow forum member ff151

  • The video was made on my first crimson fist I have painted. I have changed a few things since the video. Change the red spots on the backpack to black, and also the arrow from white to (mechrite Red, Red Gore, wash with Baal Red)

    Cheers
