  • Wow. Thats is very cool. If you don't mind answering, i have a few questions about logic. I am currently using garageband to make all my songs and i use the EzDrummer plug in for my drums. Can i plug that into this ultra beat to make beats like that or (i think there is a drum machine in logic) can i use this same principle with picking what audio sample (kick, drum, etc) plays on exactly what beat? thanks in advanced!

  • This is just what I've been needing :)

  • Aw thanks man I was confused how to get diff beats on the same midi track, found out I kept using the same pattern (A-1), and kept opening saved patterns i had into A-1, overwriting it each time lol. Thanks for the upload.

  • Parabéns cara... Video aula simples e objetiva

  • I am so glad I found this - we've been given logic to use in music, and while our teacher is very good with music, he's technologically retarded.

    Thank you.

  • thanks a lot ..I hate reading manuals!..was a big help

  • Dude that wasn't a lame beat....

  • When i hit G#0 on my MPK mini it triggers the G#0 pattern but when i hit C1, it just does the C1 note.. Im in pattern mode the whole time too.. Can anyone help me with this??

  • @Sidefreez There is no C1 Pattern, only C-1 to B0 which is 24 patterns and if you need more than that I cant help you xP

  • @guitar4hireMETAL yeah i put a pattern on c-1 and when i try to trigger c-1 using my mpk it just does the c-1 sample instead of the c-1 pattern even when im in pattern mode. .

  • @Sidefreez what do you mean by sample? What does it play? Cause there is no c-1 note. Are you on toggle mode, or one shot trigger mode? or sustain or whatnot?

  • @guitar4hireMETAL when i press c-1 it does a drum sound instead of triggering the whole pattern. it says im in toggle mode.

  • @Sidefreez I find that hard to believe seeing as how there is no drum sound on c-1. The last one is c1. Check your octave keys good sir :)

  • nice

  • Great help, many thanks!

  • This was a really great help to me. Thanks

  • Thanks:)

  • can you make a tutorial how to mix a hip hop beat can t find nothing about that what instrument i should mix on a higher our lower level?

  • thank you man you teated me some new stuff great tutorial

  • It was very helpful. great job :)

  • damn.... Awesome lessom!! You really made it simple, but still really informative. Like your style:) Keep´m coming!! *Peace*

  • Is there a way to take a custom sample kit folder and drag it into ultrabeats library instantly? Ive seen videos on here that make you drag each individual sample one at a time to make a kit. Seems like it could be a simpler way

  • YOU ARE A LIFESAVER

you have no idea how difficult it was to try and 'play' drum beats on my keyboard, and now I don't feel so stupid

  • excellent job , ninja . thanks a lot

  • Thanks very much!

  • You have no idea how helpful this is!!!

  • Thank you so much! nice video!

    You helped me so much!

  • really clear, thanks!

  • been fondling with ultrabeat for about 2 days straight now and could never figure out how to drag and drop the beats I made til I watched this vid. thanks dude I subbed.

  • great tutorial!

  • Excellent tutorials. Thank you sir!

  • thanks a lot man!! )))

  • great teaching style...totally comprehensive for folks who are new to logic...thanks

  • I just subscribed, your the man! You definitely know how to teach and all questions I had were answered, the only problem was that you stopped, haha..

  • Comment removed

  • thank you so much! this saved me from 5 hours of frustration.

  • How do you get the drum pattern in the Logic region? So that you can cut it and everything.

  • @panzerpung94 To pull your drum pattern into the arrangement window, just drag the gray button next to the label "Pattern" in the lower right corner of Ultrabeat. It should give you a little popup window telling you that you can drag it into the Arrange Window. Once there, you should turn off the power button to Ultrabeat, because otherwise, you will constantly hear the pattern and any editing you do in the arrangement window won't be heard.

  • Your videos are invaluable! Keep 'em coming! They make Logic much less intimidating!

  • dude awesome video, i just got my mac/logic a couplt hours ago and thanks to YOU the beats(however novice sounding right now) are rolling out! Thanks

    J

  • Also very important aswell:

To have a better view where u dont see that huge Ultrabeat-Synthesizer all the time (that complicated thing on the right side of the patterns, with all those knobs and stuff) ... then just klick "Full View" in the right down corner of your Ultrabeat ... gives u a way better overview on your beat!

  • thank you so much man, SUBSCRIBE :)

  • THANKS!

  • thanks a bunch man!

  • this helped me soo much. thank you!!

  • @1:14 Not a lame beat at all. I just wrote a melody just to that loop. Love it!

  • wow, I never knew I could just click and drag the patterns into the timeline. that just make sequencing a whole lot easier. thanks.

  • this really helped me man , thanks :)

  • Is there a way to pitch shift individual parts of the the drum and lay it out across ultrabeat (ie the snare) also how do you do do something in 32s or 64s like a hi hat roll, do you have to got into the MIDI editor or can you program a roll in the sequencer? Cheers :)

  • OMG i F''king love your tutorials! Thanks you so much.

  • learned alot...thanks...

  • thank you very much, this was extremely helpful

  • so much help, thank you :)

  • thanks so much! now i can drag my patterns into the arrange window, love it!!

  • I use UB Multi Outputs and now I'd like to automate some functions on my ClosedHiHat, like FM Amount, CutOff, etc. However, I can't find where to program this automation! Could you tell me how to do it? Also I can't mute UB, it just keeps on playing as soon as I hit Play in Logic. Why?

PS. I'm from Sweden and I just love you're Logic Tips!!!!!

  • that hi hat sounds like butt. the bass drum is sick though

  • pllzzzz reply

i know how to make a beat with the drop and drop thing but how do i save it as an ultrabeat so that i can do to the 'library' tab and acess it there like anything else. like i want to create a new set for my keyboard... :P with existing .wav files

    helpppp plzzz

  • I cannot seem to get the MIDI events on the arrange screen to trigger the patterns, even when the correct notes are selected (C1 & C1 sharp, in this case). I'm obviously overlooking something pretty simple, but can't see it! Help!

  • I'm using Ultrabeat (in multi-channel mode) in Logic 7 and whilst I can play the samples manually via MIDI keyboard, I cannot seem to get the patterns to trigger. When the sequencer is running, as soon as I hit pattern mode button, the sequencer plays to the end of the bar and just stops (regardless if in Toggle on step 1 or one shot trig mode etc.).

  • Thanks for the tutorials...

  • I cant get my key board to trigger my ultrabeat pattern is , what am doing wrong?

it plays all the kit sounds but it wont trigger the sequencer I have it in pattern mode but it will not start

    please help

  • can UB play sampled loops within a pattern?

  • Wow! That's some good stuff! I'm gonna' try that out right now!

  • This is like the old Roland tr880 I had years ago with so many more goodies, but I cant find a Tempo button?

  • Duuuudeeee omggg thank you i've been wracking my brain trying to get how the drums work, excellent guide

  • is there a way to nudge SINGLE drum samples left or right manually to make them slightly off perfect rythm withing ultra beat?

  • My Pattern label doesn't have the same symbol next to it - and won't let me drag and drop the pattern? I am using Logic 7. Any ideas?

  • How can I delete the sequences in the patterns???

    Greetz from Germany

  • Fantastic!! Thank you very much, please more!!!

  • Thanks a lot for this basic introduction into Ultrabeat!

  • Great work helped alot,

how do I add a selected effect to one of the samples. Say I had my beat made and I wanted to add delay and reverb on the 2nd snare hit, Do I have to create a new tack and just have the one snare sample alone in a new track?

  • First you need to make sure your ultrabeat is multi output and not set on stereo. Just click the plug in. and select, "mulit-output" Go to your mixer. click the track the ultrabeat is on. click the + symbol on the channel. Keep pressing it till you have enough drum channels. Then assign your snare to any of the channels you just made by selecting a desired output. 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 etc...

If you only want delay on every other snare then you'll have to automate your send to a delay channel. ideally.

  • Thx dude good tip!!

  • Great tutorial, Thanks!!!!!

  • This guy is great, if you read any of these just know that you are much appreciated and its great to have videos without a bunch of bs and with a bunch of great information.

  • Man you are just great! ! !

  • thanks dude :)

  • @joquirog12: There's a patch in Ultrabeat specifically for loading your own samples. You can find it under '01 Drum Kits' --> 'Drag @ Drop Samples'.

If you use this setting a lot you might want to choose 'Save Setting As' from the patch selection drop-down menu. If you save it yourself, its easier to find, 'cause it gets its own slot in the drop-down menu, and you don't have to look for it in the 'Drum Kit' section every time.

  • thanks for the video. it really helped, now i have aquestion how can i load my own samples on it.. for example i dont like the kick and snare . how can i change those loading it from my own library??

  • cant seem to record with my ultrabeat, and i followed the same path david earl took? weeiirdd...

  • me too :(

  • ???

Please shoot me an email about this.... I'd like to get a copy of a session and see what happened!

    -D

  • @Sarafanpriest89 i couldnt do it either, but at the bottom left corner where it says 'pattern', theres a button right next to it which u can literally drag and drop to the arrange window - which i found by accident :)

  • every time new things Welldone 5 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thankyou so much for this video, it helped bunches!

  • If you think this is good just wait till you get around the back of this sucker! There are so many possibilities built in to it! I use it a hell of a lot on my tracks especially my METADATA stuff.

  • Thanks for the video

  • What is "swing"?

  • swing, off sets the notes that are not on the down beat.

    its like a shuffle.

  • Oh My God I want (more like NEED) Logic sooo bad. They need to make this an affordable product. At least there are these awesome viddy's so I sort of know what I'm doing, if I ever get it. Seriously though, you "like" can't be an electronic musician unless you're rich.

  • Just what I needed to see! I will make my purchase tomorrow. Logic Express 9!

    Thank you.

    

  • @chessdude67 i don't think ultrabeat comes with express.

  • Hi, I did call Apple yesterday to make sure and they said it did. I will make sure when I'm at the Apple Store today. Thanks for giving me a warning though! I'll let you know for sure.

    peace,

    Tim 

  • great vid... been trying to find a good logic tut for a while... thanks a lot!...much appreciated!!!

  • what is swing??

  • very cool man

  • Thanks!!, i did not know how to record patterns in the song!!

  • great video, thanks man

  • thanks for a great video. Raffi117 was asking about remixes - there's software for it. Also be aware that Mp3 will be poor quality generally cos they are compressed files with bits missing. For good quality you'd have to get the full file, maybe in .wav format. Loads of ppl will know how to do this on forums like IDM

  • question/problem ::: i want to use a kick drum from a different drum set in ultra beat - but keep everything else the same... is that possible? how u do eet?

  • You Would Have To 1. Open A Second Ultrabeat. Or 2. Try And Find The Name Of The Kick You Were Looking For Open Drag And Drop Samples And Do It That Way.

  • how do you change the bpm?

  • Changing The Main Tempo Controls The Bpm

  • wow this is really nice! great job dude!!!! one question for anyone ...i am a new logic user like 100% noob....uhh i would like to remix a song but you cant just throw ing a song from itunes into logic and separate the guitar from vocals...so does anyone know a website or place to idk download i guess logic "remakes" of songs so a logic person could take out the drums or guitar ...idk if u guys understand what i am saying but if you do could you personal message me.... thnx

  • @raffi117 i understand what your trying to do. it would be awesome if you could, but i think its impossible to download any peice of music in the original DAW format. however there are vocal/instrument erasing programs out there.. then you can drag the mp3 instrumentals or just vocals onto an audio track

  • Yeah need to drag the midi pattern from Ultrabeat into your track. Its at the very bottom left, you'll see a rectangle with little squares in it...

  • When I try and record the sequence I made, nothing happens..

Anybody have any tips on this?? When you do it, it straight up records it, but i get nothing... Iv got a sick beat goin here, it needs to be put down!!

  • Very clear and very helpful - thanks

  • Wow, absolutely amazing tutorials. You've just saved me a ton of time with Ultrabeat

  • thanx ur a life saver

  • how do you make a pattern in 3/4 time?

  • Thanks so much for posting this, your videos have been really helpful to me! :) I can't wait to start using Ultrabeat!!!!

  • i have the problem, that ultrabeat just keeps playing with the last loaded pattern when the last pattern stops which i dragged to the arrangement area. What am i doing wrong?

So the bar which shows where the musik is playing is way past the green patterns but ultrabeat still plays.

    thx for the help

  • Try turning off the pattern editor in ultrabeat when you hit play.

  • Hi

For the pattern to play and stop in logic the ultrabeat power button should be turned off. Sounds like you have the power button on which will continue playing the pattern even when the midi notation is finished in the song. Might also give you a phasing sound on the drums

  • Thanks very much, v helpful indeed!

  • thx, for your tutorial. i learn logic express 9 much faster with your tutorials, thx again.

  • wow, just getting used to Logic, this is purely awesome because I was struggling with beats. Thanks for the perfect tutorial.

  • Juss call me deluxe couture:))))

  • is there any step editor like with idrum for laying out pattern orders and repetitions for songs? thanks ahead.

  • kinda getting to understand the basics of ultrabeat.. Wondering can i set up a midi controller(bcf 2000) to control the whole program instead of using the mouse.. Great tutorials by the way.

  • this tute helped me alot

  • Thank you so much! You're tutorials are exceptionally easy to understand, helped me out so damn much. Keep them coming!

  • Thanks a lot for this video man, helped me a lot, You Rule, Logic Rules.

  • thank you!

  • thank you sooo much

  • i would use Ultrabeat if it didn't crop the attack off the samples. Cant believe they still haven't sorted this bug, apparently it still happens in Logic 9!

  • You're a master

  • ok so if my resolution is 1/16th the im assuming that each block represents a sixteenth note. Am i correct?

  • yes

  • How do u control the attack and release of a sound in the ultrabeat? I can't find it anywhere on the sequencer.

    Great videos by the way.

  • hi ninja. congrats first of all.

and here we go with one question...

what about if i'd like to move into the arrange window only one sample pattern , as an example the kick one, without copying the entire pattern and erasing after that the remaining notes on the score editor?.. thnks a lot in advance

  • Nice one fella!! Thought I'd seen 'em all and just came across this one. Use Ultrabeat on daily basis and......well....It's crazy the small function buttons you never check out that open up whole new instruments to ya....Stellar work my friend ;o)

  • Helped alot, had a hard time getting the patterns to midi-form! Thanks alot :D

  • Wrothless peice of shit. Stylus RMX is wayyyyyy much much better.

  • how steep would you say the learning curve is for someone who has used other DAWs?

  • Hey thanks so much for posting these. Saves a ton of time and really simplifies the learning curve! Thanks for all the vids and the help!

  • hey david!

first off. i'd like to say that you're very helpful, and i wanted to thank you for all the videos you post.

but to the main point...is there a way to save the new beat you made? in your video it would be the 10 (A -1) sq.

I think what i'm asking is if you can save it to the ultrabeat drumkit to all of logic, so you can possibly use in other projects...old, or new

  • True or False, Can you import samples into Ultrabeat to be fired off as if it were a drum pattern? and is this ultrabeat tutorial the same principle as making beats in the EXS24 Sampler??

  • Thanks Dave...quick question for Dave or anyone...does anyone know how to create a "build up" in logic express? You hear them a lot in house/trance music usually in line with the synth and they peak right as the bass comes back in...sounds similar to say a siren from low to high...any help would be appreciated...thanks!

  • yes i will pm you how to do it it is in the synths and it is a sound that builds up give me a day and i will tell you

  • Can I also do Rock Drum sounds and play them with my edrum module (its got midi)?

  • hey I want to do the same i got alesis midi drum machine please tell us if this is possible?

  • Hey thanks for these vids just got this program and this helped a ton!

  • Thank you! I've got all the answers thanks to this clip. : )

  • Great video! I have Logic Pro 8 and I wanted to find out if there is only one set of beats? I have searched high and low and can't seem to find any other drum patterns. If anyone could let me know, I would appreciate it!

  • great tutorial man, ultrabeat is a lot to figure out solo.

One question: do I need a midi controller to trigger patterns in ultrabeat rather than just a typing keyboard? Would really appreciate some help with that.

and capslock only seems to play one instrument at a time, not a pattern..

  • You don't need an external midi controller to trigger patterns in ultrabeat like you said, it can be done using the capslock keyboard. Remember these two things make sure on ultrabeat at the bottom you press the 'pattern mode' ON button (that has to be on for this to work) if you want the same effect david used here (where the pattern changes on the first beat of every bar then select 'Toggle on step 1' from the pop-up menu adjacent to the 'Pattern mode' button.

  • oooh! one last thing.. make sure on your capslock keyboard your playing the same octave that the pattern is assigned to ( in ultrabeat it's -1 )..

to change octaves on your capslock keyboard use the number keys to the top of your qwerty keyboard whilst in caplsock mode.

That should solve your pesky pattern problems =)

  • You need a sequencer or a drum machine with midi ability!

  • Thanks a lot.......great...

  • logic ninja, i have followed all your steps in the ultrabeat. turned on pattern mode and toggle on step 1, but for some reason it won't switch my beats. what am i doing wrong? any help would be very much appreciated. THANK YOU!

  • I think i will quote this one, caus i have the same problem. Can you please give a awnser ?

    Tank you!

  • Your keyboard octave is too high maybe?

  • Thank you for the quick reply. I already found a solution, you can also dragg and drop de sequence.

Keep up the good work on the video's, even 4 the people in Holland ;)

  • Very helpful,thanks

  • Hello Mr. Logic Ninja,

I love your videos man. You're a real teacher. I have a question for you regarding Ultrabeat and samples that can be imported. I imported a nice Acoustic Set called Ross Garfield Drums II. They are M4A files though and when I drop them into a drag and drop sample, they do not sound. You can preview them in the media browser but the problem is when you drop the actual sample in and try to play it. What could it be? Thanks man.

    Roger

  • u should download audacity (free and doesnt contain any viruses), which allows you to open your m4a and then save as a wav file, logic is able to open this new clip like any other sample...

  • great...

  • Great Video.

    Question for you.

I am using an Oxygen 8 and need to assign the keys do different values. Am i missing something?

  • Wow, I took notes like I was in a class! These so help!! It is too bad that none of the manuals coming with Logic explain this--I even had trouble finding anything about it. It is not is the first user manual--and where it is, is too technical!

  • This is excellent. Thank you so much. It's so difficult to find someone who actually talks about Logic in a basic, logical way!! The only thing I can think of adding is how you change kits and customize your own drums.

  • brilliant help, thanks alot

  • Thank you!! it helps me !!!

  • Nice one man, great help, keep up the good work

  • very helpful, muchos thanks mayteeeee.

  • Excellent stuff. Has really helped me cheers.

  • thanks for explaining the ultrabeat 'flow' - i understand a little more with each video

mentioning 'full view' might have been useful :o)

  • Just enough for now you massa. thanks very much!

  • Thanx, Lurned much!:)

  • Can you assign each drum to its own FX

channel in the mixer in logic?

It would be a bit of a bitch having to eq all your drums on the same channel.

  • yeah - send the drum track to different buses (in the sends) so they become different tracks.

mrmigtight's tutorials are a good supplement to SFLogicNinja's stuff - they taught me a few tricks too.

  • Thanks for the reply!

Thats excellent that you can send them so.

I think its time to get a mac & logic! :p

  • I'm assuming you are using 7.2 aswell as me. I literally do one sound per channel, even if i'm using a sound from the same (drum)kit, i put it on another channel. Makes tweaking each individual sound much easier as well as the mixdown
