I miss this kind of music and pure Gospel sangin! Can't dance to it in a club won't hear it on Hot 104.1..I love Myrna Summers! I used to sing We're Gonna Make It back in the day.
it is good to live with the Lord. Lord, give us Christians your guidence , give us strenght, so we can do your work here on Earth more diligently. In the name of Jesus let it be so
I heard that the orignial version of God Gave Me A Song was written by my friend Dr. Joan Hillsman who lived in Oxon hill until a year ago or so she know resides in New York.

Hey Ree, The album cover is displayed on the video, titled "Myrna". Back cover subtitle is, "I Dedicate This Album To You". It's from 1977. Thanks for your comments. I love it too!
i noticed as homes are foreclosed on,,,a lot of african americans homes are doin so,,,and when banks pad locks the doors,,, they send cleaners to remove whats in the house,, and ive noticed, that tons of Old Blk gospel records are just Heaved into the Trash Bins! I wuz fortunate enough to salvage about 80 albums from one such case, most cleaners are white,, they dont know anything about this genre of music!
It wasn't my post, but I added another version to youtube. Myrna has recorded it about 5 times I think. I'm still trying to find the original one with James Cleveland and GMWA. Feel free to post if you have it.
Yes, she was ahead of her time and she is still killing it...did you see her singing "Uncloudy Day" for GE Patterson's funeral? WOW! But I still love her old stuff too, me and my daughter decided some time back that we would dig up the old stuff and start singing them again...thanks for this and I hope you keep it on for awhile or tell us where we can purchase her old stuff.
She certainly was ahead of her time. The choirs are good when they are good, but that pure, anointed sound without the backup, awesome. I just heard this for the first time a few months ago, and I am sold that she is a dynamic solo minister.
Myrna was ahead of her time in so many ways. This is one Myrna's rare choirless solo recordings and it's a very artistic presentation. However, her record company pressured her to record with choirs, because at the time that was what was really selling. Even back then, the artistry of gospel music was subject to corporate meddling.
