First of all, thank you for all the work you have been doing to make Mother 3 playable to the american masses who beg for it.

Secondly, this video has officially made me about 100 times more patient for the translation to be perfect. After all, if you can't do even the simplest things in the game then there is no sense in even translating it.

Nintendo of America named it Earthbound Zero and had planned to release it before eventually backpedaling and deciding not to. The translated rom you see is actually just a dump of the actual end product that NOA made themselves before scrapping it.

Nobody gave a rats ass. The only reason this game was released is because some people were getting crazy about it.

What I'm really pissed about is nintendo practically trashed the most vital part of a trilogy and told all the earthbound fans to blow one. The best RPG series in the world... really deserved a better execution of it's final game :(

I don't really think it's APE anymore, but from what Tomato's said on the translation blog, the programming structure isn't lending itself to localization.

In fact, I've heard hackers say they must have been on acid when programming Earthbound.

If you download the ROM, look at the immense size of the cart. My guess is they had to cut a lot of corners to make everything fit perfectly within the size limitations... And the issues the translation project is having trying to localize the game is probably the same reason Nintendo hasn't released it in the US. Too much cost, not enough projected gains.
