I was 7 years old when this game was played, and I remember it was the game that got me really excited about the Buckeyes. I followed them closely for the rest of the year, through the dramatic blocked punt against Michigan and the heart-wrenching 17-16 loss to USC. Damn you, Charles White! We were THIS close to a national championship that year! Loved Schlichter!
What a tragic story is that of Art Schlicter. Serious talent utterly wasted. Look at the touch on the ball in the touchdown throw. He has lost everything dear. I can't imagine the dark cloud he must live under. Art, if you read this, Jesus loves you (and will forgive you).
I saw Schlichter play in High School, too. Believe it or not, I think that his passing skills actually deteriorated some at tOSU. It's a shame that he didn't have his head screwed on straight. He could have been an NFL star, but he threw it away with his gambling.
It's amazing how "slow" Earle's teams look compared to the Cooper teams of the 90s and Tressel's teams of today. It is a shame about Mr. Schlichter. I believe he is the only reason Earle was around as long as he was. Good thing he was about 50-50 with Michigan!
Great Game

This was a very good FBS Rivalry in the 1970s

I know he was very unhappy with Earle particularly with his play calling. Art liked Woody more.

Wow! I've never seen Schlichter play before. He has the best arm of any OSU QB I've ever seen!
andyref2, I can't say I agree with you entirely. I don't think they look particularly slow.

Go Bucks! Thank you for the memories!

I played with Art. He hasn't got the respect historically he deserves. One of OSU's 3 all-time great QB's.

The best. Not one of the 3.
