  • I always feel like I have to be the thinnest. Or the one with the least mistakes. Or the one with the best grades. And the one with the longest hair. These are just a few, I could name at least twenty more....

  • They would have to watch her at all times so she wouldn't exercise or anything. And they wouldn't be aloud to walk. They burn too much.

  • the toilet seat thing is weird

  • She's really craving that control; must be out-of-this-world difficult!

  • Times have changed A LOT with what you can do therapy-wise and medically.

  • the guy from the exorcist! its been bugging up until this part...

  • what are they doing to her in surgery?

  • I wonder how many of us feel the same? That we don't belong or fit in? That we are always on the outside looking in.

  • @mrsrobinsoncat it's like you read my mind.

  • not only did ron meet hermione... in this video at 3:38 ron is wearing a gryffindor scarf:L

  • that girl is so pretty...she kinda looks like Heidi Klum :S

  • not always ive had naso gastric tube at the same time as this. Its called a central line and pumps vitamins, minerals, electrolites into the bloodstream. Then i got liquid feeds with fats, calories and other nutrition through the tube

  • Pushy fail doctor is fail

  • was this before they could use naso-gastric feeding tubes? the ones you typically see today? through the nose and down into the stomach? I had a feeding tube (nasogastric) and IV's as well, but nothing that I needed to be number for... was it just that anesthesia would have killed her?

  • @ellie1289 this took place in the 70's things have changed...

  • "I just like to be the sickest." That was totally me in treatment.

  • @tripurity I can appreciate that! It's fascinating why we feel that way when we r so ill

  • So different from the book.

  • GROSS THEY DIDN'T EVEN PUT HER UNDER! AND SHE LOOKS DEATHLY PALE ITS A LITTLE DISTURBING.

  • This is so different from the book

  • Weak like a Freak! :)

  • Is this part, part 7, stopping at 2:37 for anyone else, or is it just happening to me? I can't even "jump" past it. So, I guess, in addition to missing part 2 due to lack of audio, I won't get to watch the remainder of this portion. Bummer!

  • @Brooke684 I think it may jus be yours hun- it's working ok with me - unless they've updated it since you posted.

  • @gibbseyo - Oh, thanks. Maybe I'll try to rewatch ...

    Regards,

    B.

  • @Brooke684 It's also on Dailymotion.

  • I started crying when I saw this scene. My biggest fear is hospitals.. doctors.. needles.. i cant even watch this stuff anymore without freaking out ):

  • @americangirlmusician. I think its called hunger point.

  • I am trying to find a movie..It is about bulimia there are two sisters and they are like young adults and the younger sis has bulimia I think she ends up dying....anyone know this movie help please

  • @americangirlmusician Perhaps it's Hungerpoint?

  • this is a picc line; I had one put in last year because my veins kept collapsing. it is a horrible procedure and it hurt me very much :(

  • this is a picc line; I had one put in last year because my veins kept collapsing. it is a horrible procedure and it hurt me very much :(

  • Casey has hyperalimentation/total parenteral nutrition, a method of delivering nutrients to those who can't swallow food for medical reasons. It involves a catheter, which is a small plastic tube (which can be inserted into different body cavities/veins) being inserted into a vein in this case. The end of the catheter is attached to a bag of vitamins which is machine-controlled to release the contents into the body at a certain rate per hour. IVs and nasogastric tubes are used more often now.

  • I like this movie better than other ED films because it deals with secrecy of what goes on and how disorders evolved from. I like how the psychiatrist coaxes Casey open up to telling him what she feels deep down inside. I don't think I've seen any person who is in pyschology try that hard. It shows he really does care about her. :)

  • lmao the "surgery" scene is hilarious. how incorrect could they make it??

  • isnt her psychologist the priest in the movie exorcist??

  • I meant a drip lol

  • I can't believe they need all that just for a nose drip to be inserted.

  • omg when they were doing the surgery i could just imagine what that felt like thank god that i have been asleep for all the surgeries ive ever had!!!!!

  • Lindsayrenee01 ... I wondered about the same thing. But I'm thinking that it could have to do with her being not really ana, but mia (bulimic). Purging on a daily basis for months or even years destroys your throat, so maybe this is to show how serious it is? ... They should've described it better though, because we never really hear about purging in this mvoie.

Apart from that: I really love Jennifer Jason Leigh, love her charisma. ^^

  • depending...lipids and tpn is through the vein..which is the bloodstream...through a central line

  • Lindsayrenee01: It can go through your veins too. I had a pic line which is what they were doing in the OR (for a non ED related condition) for 6 months. It is fed through a vein in your arm and it goes through the vein and goes directly to your heart. Its for TPN and Lipids. They don't put you to sleep for it. It is a relatively minor procedure.

  • uh! the surgery makes me woozy...my stomach is turning still.

  • Why was she awake for the surgery?

  • f his movi is lke the book, then where is the brother??? I think he plays an important part in the book.

    who plays emma???????

  • I mean casey. She looks like emma watson to me.

  • @kagomekr she wasnt even born then lol, though she looks a bit like her sometimes :)

  • @kagomekr the main actress is jennifer jason leigh from fast times at ridgemont high and the other actress is melanie mayron.this tv movie came out in 1981.

  • fatty and skinny had a race all around the pillow case....fatty fell down and broke his face...oh skinny said I WON THE RACE

  • "I like to be the sickest" So she likes poeple feeling sorry for her?

  • i don't think thats what she means. and that's not what she said. Being sickest and having people feel sorry for you are 2 different things. Just because you want to be the smartest doesnt always mean you want to be the most praised. it's a personal satisfaction and often (not always tho) eating disorders have to do with control. You want to be in total control and you do that with your eating. So you want to be in the most control you can be. which in that way of thinking can equal the sickest

  • @jamielovesjesse Honey, I go like two weeks with out eating somtimes, I know all about having to be in "control"

  • So do I, I was just explaining why it might be she said she likes to be the sickest, i just don't think it's that she just wants people to feel sorry for her, that's all.

  • two weeks without eating? your not in control of anything obviously.. including you mind.

  • Exuse me? I never said it was a good thing.

  • @PeaceNdLovee yes, she likes it when people notice her

  • Clearly.

  • lol. Her therapist was Father Karras in The Exorcist.

  • They also wear baggy clothes cos their clothes become baggy as they lose weight

  • they said they were going to suture up or something i think thats sewing it back up

  • they wear baggy clothes because they still think they are fat - they still see themselves as fat - and therefore they think everyone else views them as fat - so they wear baggy clothes to conceal it. Others, get stared at because they are skinny and will wear baggy clothes to prevent the staring

  • do anorexic/bullimic/BMD sufferers wear baggy clothes because they still think they look fat, or because because they don't want people to notice their losing weight?

  • both,actually.

  • Id say both.

  • "Don't be too good at it, I like to be the sickest that's all." Licorice1977

  • Where are they putting the tube? in her neck? YUCK!

  • No, it's a CVK (in swedish) so you can get your outrition that way. I thik that's the wrong way. I've seen girls been carried inta a room before every meal. I've had that myself but I talked them into taking it away...

  • nasty. is it really painful when they put it in?

  • No, it wasn't painful. It's just a local anesthesia so it's just the needle that "hurts"...

The physical pain is nothing... It's the feeling of loosing control that's the worst. It's awful!

  • carol thinks its a contest to see who can make themselves sicker???!!

  • this is very common in patients with eating disorders. each person with an ED(eating disorder) has found something they can control and when they meet others like them, they want to still be in control. That's why when we're in group therapy we're not allowed to mention numbers of calories eaten or miles ran, etc. It just perpetuates the ED.

  • what ever happened to anestesia, or however you spell it??

  • what the hell kind of procedure are they doing? Why don't they just give her a feeding tube?

  • a feeding tube wouldn't provide the amount of nourishment she needs at the moment. and she might still purge if she has that in. I've been there...

  • wouldn't the nourishment and calories etc go directly into the blood stream? i've been threatned w tubes but never gotten one thank god

  • Food pumped into you through tubes is sent through your nose and intro your stomach. Not through your bloodstream.

  • @lindsayrenee01 They can give you "food" through your bloodstream. TPN look it up

  • @lindsayrenee01 they put nutriment to your bloodstream

  • @j3nyy IVs do that, not feeding tubes.

  • @lindsayrenee01 It's not food exactly. It's vitamins, minerals, and lipids (fats).

  • @lindsayrenee01 no always ive had ng tube at the same time as this. Its called a central line and pumps vitamins, minerals, electrolites into the bloodstream. Then i got liquid feeds with fats, calories and other nutrition through the tube

  • @lindsayrenee01 Where are you getting this information? It's pretty inaccurate.

  • @lindsayrenee01 You can infuse calories intravenously. It's called hyperalimentation.

  • That would creep me out if I woke up to someone staring at me, and before I even open my eyes they're talking to me like it's not weird at all. hah.

good movie so far. kind of rushed I think, but still good.

  • I study psichology and that is the worst therapist I've ever seen

  • It's spelled psychology. & just curious, what does he do wrong? To me seems like he's just waiting for her to want to get help, as right now she clearly doesn't. and you can't help anorexia, or any other kind of addiction, unless the person wants it

  • right?~?~?~?!?!?!? her hairs nasty

  • what are they doing to casey?

  • injecting a feeding tube.

  • they would have to do it with her awake because of her weak state. Normal people can have reactions and sometimes die from being put under for surgery. Someone in such a weakened state would have a much higher risk.

  • what?? she is fealing it when they cut her open?? how cruel

  • It isn't cruel... they're giving her local anesthesia before cutting her open. You can feel they they're doing but it doesn't hurt. I've been through many procedures like that and it's an odd feelig... But no pain.

  • She's weird!

  • I would not be able to let them cut me open while i wuz awake. I would freak out and protest that they should put me to sleep.

  • She'll be fine, her doctor is Jewish.

  • lmao. jew jokes neverget old

  • Note the difference between Men & here women jail-breaks. With men it is shooting, clubbing, violent & dangerous. Here it is unopposed running away, collapse, secret barfing and pill stashes. But they share one thing: all want to get out - but very few want to change what got them in!

  • wish they had stuck to the book...

  • ya me too

  • THIS FILM, IS BASED ON WHAT BOOK?

  • its based on the book with the same title

  • the best little girl in the world by Steven Levenkron

  • do they really put on in ya chest i thought it was in ya nose or ya belly ?

  • got it. thanks!

  • why's the feeding tube going in her chest?? mine was in my stomach

  • what are they doing to her at 2:47?

  • they are putting an intrevenous drain into her arm so that the nutrients can be feed through her bloodstream glucose.

  • What were they doing to her at 0:39?

  • why didnt they put her under?

  • i dunno...maybe back then they didn't have that advanced technology ?

  • because someone that malnourished and weakened would have a much greater risk of not waking up from a general anasthesia. Thats why local anasthesia is the general practice for hyperalimination.

  • What is it exactly that they are doing at the beginning??

  • Karen Carpenter had one of those tubes inserted.. She gained 30 pounds over 6 weeks... One of the reasons her heart failed was because the weight was put back on FAR TOO FAST!!!

  • very true! but wasnt she actually eating food too?

  • From what I have been told Karen was not eating much. The first 20 pounds that she gained were from the tube. It was only then that she started to eat. The tube stayed in until she was up to 104. When she reached 108 pounds they released Karen and she went back to Downey with her family. That was in November of 82. Less then 3 months later... She passed away...

  • did she die?

  • this movie makes me hungry

  • lol this movie makes me feel fat cuzz im not puking.

  • movie made me feel hungry cause she wasnt eating and i am a foodie lol i eat delicious foods and love it. and dont want to puke it out later. i have superior taste buds and would never compromise them just to be thin. i live life to the fullest. lol but in a most healthy way.

  • okay...you seem proud of this, good for you. i love food too, just so happens i also love to puke it back up :)

  • ahhh why are they doing the operation? because what do they need the catheter for?

  • This movie has a book!? I want to read it! Where can I buy it?

  • how does she go to the bathroom??

she cant sit on a toilet seat.

  • It's not that she can't, it's that she thinks it's unclean. The book makes everything more clear.

  • i know i know, but she says she doesn't sit on her toilet seat at home so how does she go to the bathroom

  • She hovers... like a lot of people do in public restrooms.

  • Exactly, it's not that hard to pee standing up. Ok it is until you get used to it lol. It makes me sad how much this movie messes up the book. But, the main idea is the same.

  • And how does she crap?

  • If you are that curious about it then you should try your self.

  • I'm good, thanks.

  • ....who says thaT?

  • oooh

  • Talking to people about your fears and secrets don't help at all...I could talk about my troubles until I'm blue in the face and nothing would ease the feelings I have. Therpy is crap!

  • I think they're putting in a catheter.

  • Pregnant from sitting on a toilet seat LMFAO.

  • they PEGed her?

  • i think they put in a central line for TPN, PEGs go in the stomach. although later in the movie when they show the IV bag, its clear, TPN is like a nasty off white vanilla Ensure color. Yuck.

  • I noticed the IV tube or whatever it was...he called it a mosquito ..I was told they were called Butterfly's though...because Ihave way deep an tiny veins and the docs use the butterfly IV tubes on me.

  • they could have differnet IV tubes for different types if veins...maybe because you have tiny vains they had to use the butterfly IV, im not sure tho thats just my guess

  • in my med. terminology classes we had to watch this HBO or Showtime special called THIN. I think its called that. It's sorta new...like in the last few years it was made...these women and teens at a clinic in florida...dam they did some extreme shit to fool doctors. A few died.

  • awesome and very accurate answer

they would need to be careful with the protein content in the tpn though- her BUN is very high

  • Agreed... women aren't breeding machines. I hate the way society (& even people I know) are so determined to pressure and assume that I want to have kids. Not wanting kids isn't an illness, it's a personal choice.

  • "may I go now?"

"No, you just stay here a while and relax."

Mmmm Mmmm, doc likes his patient. Just love it when a man takes charge. Joke, lol

  • is this really how they treated severe ana patients back then?

  • Do they still do intravenous feeding? Did they not have PEG & NG tubes in the '80s?

  • They did but they aren't always the best option. People can actually "vomit" out of their PEG tubes and can purge up whatever is given to them via an NG tube. TPN via a central line delivers nutrients directly to the blood.

  • ug, central lines

  • Why was she not asleep during that?

  • they gave her local anaesthetic because they don't like putting most patients under who could be so unstable, it looks like it was mostly her anxiety that was bothering her

  • she reminds me of the brady bunch

  • Dimmy, Dimmy why you do this to me, Dimmy??

  • Why didn't they give her anesthesia?

  • they did. that's what the shot was.

  • i love this move

  • anyone know where to watch dying to dance?

  • it's on youtube i think.

  • Are they giving her a feeding tube at 2:57?

  • no, its like an IV that goes into one of her main blood vessels. because she pulled out the regular IV. the thing she has now is sewn in.

  • shes so pretty..

  • Ya but why don't they simply use an NG Tube? They don't reaaly need to operate her and get the stupid tube in her chest... Maybe they don't know that the nose is actually linked to the digestive system. And I hate the afro girl, she doesn't need to take people down with her. Don't anyone see that?

  • People can purge what is given to them via an NG tube because it is essentially Ensure or Boost. The NG tube doesn't block the stomach. They could try and force feed her with one but she could pull it out. Even babies in the NICU pull out their NG tubes all the time.

  • but there were zondas' even then. slip it throw the nose.. why the op?

  • No an eating disorder is considering that you think you are fat and deepeer than that is that you are some depression with family like they dont treate you very well. But f you dont eat because you arent ngry is tatally normal but if you get in to te hospital they treat yo like if you were anorexic

  • I'm just adding this to the video as a question to be educated on. Even if you don't starve yourself intentional but if you are the kind of person who can go days without eating not because you think you're fat but because your body simply isn't hungry, can that be considered as a symptom or characteristic of an eating disorder or disturbed eating? I should research this myself but i'be read a lot of comments on here from people who are well educated on the subject matter.

  • yes. but pls remember that all those ppl dont know you. neigther have they seen you face to face or know or manthal, physical and phsycological history.

the same as you do not know WHO THEY ARE.

also- no pro will ever, evr.. give you advice or diagnoss on the phone or internet. ok?

go to someone qulified (face to face), even a family doctor, and then get a sec opinion in another field like.. alt. med..

  • Well, it may not be a symptom of an eating disorder, per say, but it is atypical, as people need a certain amount of calories/nutrition each day to be healthy. I would see your doctor and ask about it. Just to rule out any physical and/or psychological reasons for this lack of appetite.

  • that afro kid is a complete nutjob ¬.¬

  • that curly 'fro girl in the ward gets on my nerves. Casey never asked about learning tricks. 'fro girl needs to leave her alone if she's not ready to get better. Don't drag others down with you.

  • why does the does say her secret rituals must be exhausting her all she does is not touch mouth with fork and not sit on toilet seat. hardly tiring

  • because even if there s one ritual (there is not)-

it s part of OCD.. have u watched "as good as it gets"?

its all ur thinking about, all the time. all ur worring about- even when not actually DOING it.

    try to think-

every time u FEEL, every time u get UPPSET, every time u REACT TO THE ENVIRONMENT (especially that u dont know how to handle with, like her family)- U THINK ABOUT THAT. wethear to do it or not, what will happen if you wont. etc.

  • When I was "normal weight" I had anorexic behaviors. Even bulimic behaviors before that. Even when I lost 30lbs in a matter of months, no one thought I was sick.
