I have a 2001 Hyundai Santa FE LX, it's a V6 with 4WD, the thing is awesome and has really wonderful passing power. It turns on a dime and I have taken it over some really rough terrain, it handles well. The price range was wonderful, I love how it looks but mostly how it drives. I don't feel like I'm driving a truck, but I'm up high and have the power that a truck would have. I'm very excited for winter driving, I can't wait to see how it performs!
Funny thing is that the traction control on the Santa Fe slowly and smoothly sends torque to the non-spinning wheels. With the LOCK mode on and traction control, it acts similar to a truck with limited slip differentials, minus the low range of course. Too bad they didn't have TCS in this test because as much as it doesn't seem like an offroader, it has an excellent system, much better than the junk the competition offers.
Its funny I took my 2002 Santa Fe to the same hill I used to climb with both my Grand Cherokee and Cherokee Sport and not only did it bottum out in the rear it did not have enough torque to get up the hill. Now on the road its a different story, it drives more like a car then an SUV when on road. We had some 20" snow storms this year and it never got stuck once even when I tried to get stuck it had no problem getting out. If they had put a 4LO in and raised it about 2" It would dirt no problem.
see this is why i hate some of these commercials as the guy said no traction controll on santa fe in the u.s we have all of that standard so the santa fe would aactually do better
Good review but work needed on the presenting and the background music is awful. Bottom line is if you want an off roader then don't buy either. If you want a cheap reliable car that will cope in the snow and on grass for camping and such like and you're not bothered by badge prestige then this is for you.
Another problem with the Sorento in Canada. The pricing might start pretty low, but in order to get the 3rd row seat, you must get the V6 version, and the price goes wayhay up.
Same price pretty much as the RAV4, which, daaaaahhhh, would ooobbvvioously be the better choice.
Santa Fe vs Sorento. For city I'll choose Santa Fe - modern interior and good driving, for city and off-road - off course Sorento, "grey" interior but 4x4 mode and flat environment inside. Hello to everybody from UA
he is REALLY tall. At 5'5" i have no searting issues in my SantaFe. And I lov it. of course, I haven't any need for off roading. But it's a great fam. vid. Plenty of room for road trips. The back is great for luggage or pets. I even moved my uncle out of his 0ne bedroom apt to his new one. the only thing that couldn't be carried by my SantaFe was his sofa. Really comes in handy, especially as a single woman w/ extended family needs
@SourGrey VW is expensive, and their dealers are hyper arrogant to a point where they just about chase me off the lot me just showing up. They're awful that way.
@a1mint Yes and no. I have a Vw, and i know what its like to go through about with dealer, your right i heard many people having these experiences. i love my Vw but im going too rid of it becuase its expensive too fix. This why im looking into Kia or Hyundai Suv's I just bought a 62 nova, and im either getting back into a sports car or into an SUV. im a student i think a KIA Sportage would do me wonders. and stay economical. The Vw dealer near me is pretty nice but paying for labor is a joke.
@SourGrey I find it amazing how a student is able to affort a vintage car plus an suv.
You in the US? Doesn't education cost an arm and a leg already? Would it not make sense to just get by with an old civic or corolla and keep loans to a minimum?
@a1mint Im pretty poor but not broke. I have a couple classics cars, i bought cheap and then put a little money. I sold them and bought what i wanted. Right now i have a project 67 el camino for sale. which is what ill use too cover the cost of my Nova i always wanted. I use too have an Acura integra GSR. I loved that car. but in cali tuners get too much harassment from cops i was getting pulled over just so they can look under my hood. Its all about association.
@SourGrey My VW is too expensive for repair and i go too an affordable school plus i have finacial aid. Which can be helpful. But i want a vehicle, with more space and full economy. Thats where i think the Kia Sorento has it. If not im giving up. and just getting a mazda 3 wagon or honda del sol. for the mpg and sport feel.

Not at all. The Hyundai is a unibody fwd based car with a transversely mounted engine, the Sorento is old school body on frame, solid axle rwd, longitudinally mounted engine.
That guy forgot to read the Hyundai owner's manual for the Santa Fe... it clearly says that this vehicule is NOT made for off-road. So those off-road tests are pointless.
hyundai makes better looking cars then kias.i love all range of hyundais and if you are looking for a starter car a hyundai getz or a verna is what you are looking for. They are nippy and pretty quick too
I own a 2003 santa fe, 135,000 miles, only thing ever replaced so far was the alternator..
VERY good car, great gas mileage, very dependable, does great in the snow..
when compared to everyone I know who owns American cars, and have replaced many many more parts then I have, and their cars have less miles, I would give the santa fe a 10...
And generally I am not easy on my vehicles, I use them for off road, winter etc.. daily driver, I don't really pamper it, it still runs perfect!!
I owned MB , BMW , volvo and I have santa fe 2007 SE it's smooth car with lot of power engine it's for city more than off roads I love this car and its better never post a comments before you drive it , I was against the korian cras till I drove this santa fe I bet you'll love it .

interior is plastic,, hard plastic cut out with box cutter,, who designs chrysler?
all cars so bad, jeep is only work on off road and is it one of best? on off road? nah,,, Hyundai is car based and performs way better than Rav-4, CRV, Highlander, Equinox,,, etc.. ConsumerReport SUV edition put Santa Fe, best reliable SUV w. off roading/on roading,, priced 25k-30k.. Non of jeep or dodge scored any...!!!
In fact.. Jeep didn't get any "recommendation" mark..
Even if he is biased Hyundai and Kia are one. I mean Kia uses Hyundai engines and stuff. It is fact however that the Santa fe has the worst driving positions and least visibility from all SUV's. I read it. Also i does not offer an engine like the Sorento. I have the 3.5 v6 sorento. really good car. I havent tried it on heavy offroad but i have no doubt its good. U can check my sorento driving video. U can find it amongs my Gta 4 videos. LOL
I could see how you would derend the car u own.. Im not saying the santa fe is better, but the things that you said abou the visibility are untrue... Ive owned that santa fe for a year, and the visibility is more than adequate, and the engine is definately powerful enough for the body... Im sure the sorento has its strong and weak points, as does the hyundai.
Yeah i agree with you. I just read it. It doesn't mean it is true. Santa Fe is a cool car. My dad likes it very much. But a qs.. what's the most powerful engine the santa Fe offers. I actually never asked.
Ummm I dont actaully know about the European/Asian/Middle Eastern market since i live in the US, but here its is the 3.3 litre 242 hp. gasoline engine.
Yeah if I had a bit more cash to throw around, I might get a range rover sport, however, these vehicles seem super comfortable to drive with plenty of space, heaps of gadgets and accessories and plenty of safety features. So, shitty may have applied to Hyundai and Kia 15 years ago, but no more.
