  • If movies, something that you KNOW isn't real and KNOW can't possibly hurt you in any way, truly scare you, then you have a very simple mind. Most people pretend to be more scared then they are when with friends just for attention. Like idiotic high school kiddies pretending to be more drunk than they are, you faggots are just pathetic

  • so america copying japan

  • you all have to read the original japanese novel!

its also almost as scary as the movie.

and the video took about 15 minutes in the novel.

  • the american one was more effective

  • I wish it was a little longer

  • @imafreakinninja12 No it wasn't

and by the way, Kate Middleton is the Princess of our hearts, whatever you think.

  • Ringu is more subtle and therefore more brilliantly disturbing. The Ring is all about cheap scares, Hollywood style.

  • best!!

  • 6 people was visited by sadako

  • its like eh the us version was a way more creepier

  • man i swear those jap words moving and people crawling 0:15 had me shitting bricks

  • Ringu is better than the ring

  • Honestly, The Ring did this better. Maybe because I saw it first, but watching Ryuuji die here wasn't nearly as scary as watching Noah die.

I felt that the American version had more impact.

  • Ive never seen this but i think the american video looks a lot scarier than this one

  • Nothing compared to THE RING's video! Sorry, but The Ring is far superior to Ringu!

  • this is so much fucking scarier than the american shit :O

  • i saw this video once and i thought to my self "lawl it would be funny if the phone rang now" .. *phone rings* ...i shat bricks and picked it up and there was no answear and then i heard a voice, it was my asian friend :D

  • If she came outta my TV I'd be like BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!

  • Will I get 14 days if I watch the pathetic American version as well? Might as well do it then.

  • Asian are better at making horror films methinks.

  • What should one do to not die after watching this when there is no video to copy and show to someone else? :D

  • I wasn't scared by this at all the first time I watched it. Then I saw the American remake, and realised, the video in the original is SO creepy. Something to do with the people crawling backwards...

  • *phone rings* *i answer* me-hello? phone-hi, are you(says my name) me-yes? why? phone- oh ive been watching you thre the tv me- ahuh sure and ive been watching you thre the phone phone-stop it! cant you see im trying to get people scared! me-yea sure watevr and its not working *shuts the phon* me-hey wats that black spot in the tv?(gets closer) (next morning) *im over my body*

  • I guess the movie didnt scare me cause i never use my phone and i do not own a TV :3

  • wow. i live in the US and i never knew our "horror" films were such rip-offs of other countries. this movie, the original seems SOOOO much better than our knock-off.

  • What happened to sadako in tis movie?

  • I remember I watched this late at night when I was a kid - about halfway through I'd paused it and sat down on my bed, and my bed let out the exact same creak you hear at 0:27. Gaaahhhhhhhh.

  • I didn't find this video creepy until I started to notice all the bizarre details in it: the white thing in the circle of the beggining; in the mirror scenes, sadako apppears in the mirror that suddenly appears in the right; In the scene where people crawl, there's people crawling backwards. Like if the tape was going backwards, but there's people crawling "normally"; there's a guy behind the well in the last shot. Very well hidden. This video is strange and creepy once you watch it closely.

  • Shit, now I'm gonna die in 7 days! xD

  • i just watched the movie yesterday and there were no subtitles and yes i went to settings to try and fix it.

  • Is this supposed to be the scary part of the movie? Horror movies just don't scare me like they used to. It's upsetting.

  • where the fat guy and the spinning upside down chair?!

  • if there would be a shock effect at the end i would shit myself...

  • i should totally rip this from an original dvd and edit it neatly onto unmarked vhs tapes...

  • 0:26-0:33 THAT NOOOOOOOOISE!!!! I'm scared now.... dammit, I HAVE to rewatch the movie with my new awesome headphones...

  • brb disconnects phone line, pwned.

  • I couldn't watch it - to chicken shit!

  • to the people who r watching this video: now a phone will ring & u'll die in 7 days.

    -from Sadako

    :D

  • I tricked Sadako, cuz I talked to a friend on the phone while and after watching this video, so the line was blocked for this slut. /happy face

  • @NecropeDomme Won't work, Sadako does SMS as well :'[

  • orginals are better

  • hey do any of you guys know this long black haired girl in my house?

  • @julianstocks oh yeahh i think i do, she called me 7 days ago...

  • Brilliant use of sound in this

  • How delightfully creepy 0.0

  • Who is the guy with a cloth on his head who is pointing?

  • @shmush3 His fan nickname is "Pointy-kun". It's implied that he is a past victim of the curse, because one the characters who dies later appears as him.

  • stupid girl thats the lens! get your eye out of the way! stupid

  • Tell me, is this a good movie? :3 I might just buy it...

  • i think "the ring" was scarier but only by a bit n ringu was definitely good

  • Do you know what does my head in? When people talk about horror films and say "that bit didn't scare me, I just laughed." When in reality their just embarrassed about the fact they pissed and shat themselves at the same time.

  • @AlexFruen But what about those of us who genuinely weren't scared of this?

  • The guy with a blanket on his head just looks like a mental patient escapee. He makes me LOL.

  • Haha this still gives me the chills since i watched this movie alone when i was 7 years old... i had nightmares for 6 months about her standing in the corner... and i didn't watch tv.. O_o

  • @alello12124 oh pls im 15 and i still see her standin in the corner, i know im terrafied of her lol

  • What's up with the Ku Klux Klan dude?

  • was

  • Daymn that's was "Creeepy"

  • Hollywood will never learn!

  • 0:26

Pointy Man! :3 Distant cousin of Towelie.

  • @Shiruvi Dont forget to bring a towel xD

  • @Shiruvi

    You wanna get high? xD

  • I remember seeing the J version for the first time and the next day that weird I heard that weird squeaking noise the next day at the store. Kiiiiiinda freaky.

  • ... All the comments are over a week old...

  • I found the American version much more interesting than this one.

  • @Snoopies622 And I found the original Ringu to be far more scary and memorable than the pointless

     American remake.

  • THe american version does'nt look an amateur video, but a wannabe. THere are sensible photography and high definition of images, what makes the whole point of a scary video to be blown away. Special effects does not scare me. A 3d centipede? come on.

  • So true, another example would be the grudge 2 remake. When the ghost is coming down the hallway in the hospital as the lights are blowing up, the effects look SOOOOO cartoonish it made me laugh....not scared.

  • @darkshun007 3D CENTIPEDES ARE SCARY GOD DAMNIT!

  • i thought this video would be the same as the ring's version (i just finished watching the original) but actually i'm glad it's not. the remake's video does NOT have the same creepy atmosphere as this. when i'm in bed at night it will be the man with a cloth over his head pointing and not the nail driven through the finger that will haunt me xD. i noticed the complete lack of horses in this movie and that was surprising o_o i really wish i watched the original before the remake.

  • now are we gonna DIE....:|????

  • I have only seen the american version but yesterday I saw the real vesion and I must say the japanese version is much better

  • no offence people, but this looks like a way worse movie than the ring(original)

  • Hahahaha, oh wow. Did you just say that "The Ring" was the original? Why don't you do a little research before commenting? You'd sound a lot less stupid that way.

  • lol

  • well its a little better IMO and J horror in general is way better.

  • @aLeXmAdRzYk271 You must be joking. This is original.

  • @aLeXmAdRzYk271 RINGU JAPANESE IS THE ORIGINAL STUPID THE RING WAS THE REMAKE MAN U R SUCH AN IDIOT DO SOME RESEARCH AND BTW THE GRUDGE WAS A REMAKE OF JAPANESE JU ON LMAO

  • I like the Ring version more, it's creepier, longer and sticks to the point more or less

  • Man, you've got to be kidding. The American one has: a box full of maggots - OOH HOW CREEPY. And a shoddy CGI millipede. OH NO! LOTS OF LEGS! And a dude pushing a nail through his finger. YIKES!

It's also way, way too long. The original is a short, sharp dose of terror. You don't have time to sit there and think "gee, I wonder what 'creepy' thing they're going to show next."

  • Too right mate! BRAVO!!

  • Omighod she (samara) from the ring does chihiro form Spirited Away WHO KNEW!!xD

  • @scholte

    hahhaha niceeee

  • @scholte She also does Lilo from Lilo & Stitch.

  • I love Sadako <3

  • do you have to have that "ty" box?

  • i hear ringu's girl is uglier and scarier than the ring's...

  • Yeah the girl in the ring is Daveigh Chase, and she's hot as holy hell now, but not very scary.

  • well the books ARE original cuz i think they came out first (please correct me if im wrong) but u really have to agree with Kamikazeesouled and Katinkorn becuz the Ringu is original and the Ring is a little 2 hollywood

  • 0:26 very scary music

  • The video tape from the Japanese version is scarier. It looks like a stream of thoughts and memories that were burned onto video, unlike the tape fom the remake, which has a very glossy over-produced feel, much like the rest of the film.

  • as much as i like the Remake of the Cursed video, i dont think it can beat the sea of Floating kanji letters.

    its so surreal and creepy.

  • what do the kanji letters say?

  • The bigger of Kanji says "三原山が噴火(みはらやまがふんか)which means Mihara mountain erupts. Then it is followed by "Locals urged to take precautions." Smaller similar article says "Did girl predict eruptions: A local girl from Sashiki (which is a village of Izu-Oshima ).

Sorry for not full translation, it's all mixed up.

  • Frolic in brine, goblins be thine.

  • man, to be honest, I thought the cursed video from the remake was more effective and disturbing. I'm not speaking on the quality of the two movies, I haven't seen ringu. The Ring was okay. The tape was the best part, obviously.

  • you should watch ringu. The remake is too "hollywood", it's like watching an action movie.

  • i LOVE the japanese version!! i have the movie!! im learning the language cause the movie doesnt speak english only english subs

  • ringu is a korean horror movie based on characters from the RING

  • You've got it backwards, it's a Japanese film which inspired the American version. Same with the Grudge, Pulse, and One Missed Call.

  • Dark water and The eye too.

  • Actually, The Ringu Series, consists of RinguO, Rasen and Ringu, they're all based on the novels by Koji Suzuki. ( First it was Lemon Heart=RinguO, Then Ringu. After that was the novel Rasen was based off of, called "The Spiral") So both the japanese AND American versions are based off of the books ^^;

  • No, the American version's got nothing to do with the books anymore. There isn't a single plotline from the book reflected in the movie. It's just based on this Ringu movie.

  • hey do u know who the dude pointing is???

  • Ringu is the O R I G I N A L!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @katinkorn And the best.

  • retarded...

  • other way around yo ringu came first

  • Bellissimo

  • you all have 7 days to live!!! you better show this video to a "freind" (or maybe an enimy? the movie should have said.) lol joking.

  • showing it to a enemy.....AGREE 100% HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Stupendo!!

  • Brb, I go to pick the phone...

  • lol u wish nt

  • heheh niiice.

  • holy shit i once watched this tape from youtube and then..the phone ringed..we were like "oh my god...." then i answered in the phone and i heared:"hey can u come to our home to visit" it was my neighbour...

  • WHY AM I STILL ALIVE?! i thought for sure it would work....

  • no 0:25 dá medo... lol

  • I did see the movie but i never noticed it, the for the info i hope to see it again.

  • 0:16 in my opinion, the creepiest part of the tape

  • The Towel-headed man gave me a creep+the amibent sound. 0:02-0:06, what the hell is this?

  • You know what it is when you see the whole movie. This is the scientist'head who looks into the well to check if Sadako is dead or alive...

  • Every scene in the video plays a role in the movie but 0:20

  • I think what makes it so scary is the fact that it really doesn't have much at all to it. It's just plain old "what's going to happen?" terror. You think that something sudden is going to happen, but when everything is just slow and continuies, it just makes it that more eerie. I hope that made sense...XP

  • @KendraSwan I agree :) Remember this scene when they are working on the video at night, when there is only one lamp and the rest of the room is in darkness? You see the half-closed door in the background... The whole scene I was horrified what will happen with these doors. And nothing happened...

  • This is better than the remake? The comments on that one said that the original, this one, is scary as hell. The only thing I liked better was the people crawling around. Otherwise, they're both bland.

  • fuck off this is a j-horror masterpiece.

  • brb phone

  • lmao.

  • hahaha

  • what did he said?

  • This video looks almost like the nightmares I had after reading H.P. Lovecrafts "Haunter of the Dark"

    and "Call of Cthulhu"

    It freaks me out o.o

  • CREEPY!

  • the american one is shit compared to this.

    really visualy dynamic.

    in a way it's beautiful

  • i like the manga of the ring 1 and 2 but the drawing on the ring 1 manga is bad

  • I didn't like the drawings for the first one either but I got used to them. I haven't even seen ANY of the movies cause I'm scared easily ^^;

  • 7 DAYS!!!

  • weird. o_o

  • I'll reply in a week. If I don't comment by 5:30 central time on April 10th then this is real XD

  • Please reply!

  • oh srry I almost forgot to!

  • wow watching the Ringo 0 birthday,it all makes sence now(why she is killing people) i thinkk!

  • For some reason this video is alot scarier than the american version

  • it's because nothing beats the original

  • This is much better and scaryer than the american one

  • great

  • I like both the American and Japanese version of the Ring. However, Samara's video blows Sadako's right out of the water. In other words, I prefer Samara's video, because it scared the sh!t out of me, Sadako's not so much.

  • oh I remember this part alot and even read the manga of it

  • love the japanese version better than the english verison of the ring

  • I didn't really find this as scary/creepy as the American version of this video...

  • utterly brilliant trilogy!

  • You know, actually, I find the American version a little better. Usually I wouldn't go Hollywood over independent like that, but the aesthetics of the US one are a little better, in my opinion. This just was kind of student film

-ish and didn't make me as intrigued. But then again I could just be jaded with the whole thing by now.

  • I can't wait to see the Japanese version, Americans always screw up remakes.

  • Now show this to someone else or you will die in seven days!!

  • soooo cool

  • God, the sounds are what makes this so freaky. I can't believe anyone would find the pathetic American version of this video scarier. No way. That one was laughable. This is just so scary. ^^

  • the sound is a very big part of the success of this sequence.

  • coooooooooooooooooooooooool <3

  • I actually found the American version a lot more creepy. Normally - being a J-Horror addict - I don't find the Americanised versions as scary but Samara was just a lot scarier, as was the tape (and their faces after they died). I didn't find it as cheesy as most English/American adaptions.

  • ringu > el aro

  • what does it mean?

  • Man, This movie is good but not scary at.

  • not to offend , but the japanese seem to be more CREEPY...

  • What real horror fan would get offended? These are the ORIGINAL versions of these movies: the American versions are cheezy rip-offs.

  • true but japanese originals dont make it over to the states very well and if they do its either hard to find or not interesting to the american eye..which brings the american rip offs to making

  • I've seen both versions of this movie, and of course I prefer the original, as easy to scare as I am.

The Japanese have a different sense of "scary" than Americans do. Americans tend to focus on physical gore and torture, the fear of being maimed and tricked...Japanese have a deeper-rooted "spiritual" and "mental" sense of fear. They love delving into insanity and the unknown. And what could be scarier than the stuff you don't completely understand?

  • Yes! I agree. The Japanese love psychological horror and that is why I ADORE their stuff! =]

  • it works better...

  • tell that to david lynch

  • Haha. Brilliant!

  • Samara created a much more disturbing video in my opinion, but I've got to say that Sadako held her own too. The sound effects and poor video quality really gave it a creepy atmosphere.

Sadako's video tape was like a trip into the mind of the thoroughly deranged and disturbed (0:20 - 0:33), although the mirror scene wasn't nearly as good.

  • holy christ my friend called me right after i watched this

  • lol imagine if only you heard was 7 days

  • is it only me that doesn't get the meaning of the man-pointing-at-the-ocean-with-a-cloth-on-his-head....????

pretty much the greatest yet scariest overall movie i've watched in my life

  • do u know what the cloth on the head represents? its what happens in japanese culture when someone dies. and he is pointing to the viewer saying that they are next to die

  • The man was actually Rieko's husband, wearing the same clothes when he died. Scary, because Sadako actually took him into herself because of unknown reasons. See Ringu 2--the husband was in the well with Sadako. The pointing figure always leads Rieko to the right direction (the end of this first movie shows this).

  • Im terrified of both of the films i just cant stand watching horrors on my own
