This game had the some of the worst pauses in between what characters are saying. Does that have anything to do with japanese to english translations?

I really like this scene. Tidus would so get in there with her if he didn't fall for Yuna and the reason he didn't regonise her to straight away was because he hasn't seen her for ages and knew it was her when she spoke! I was surprised wakka didn't get what Tidus was saying but his character did potray him as being a guy with a good heart but a bit dense. Tidus is like a confused kid who grows up in the game and I think the end line in this scene is saying Wakka knew rikku wasn't a bad person.

The voice acting seemed really impressive when I played this like 7 years ago, but hearing it now, I'm experiencing a philosophical crisis. How did I once approve of this? Who am I? Who will I be tomorrow? If I could once have approved of this voice acting, is that potential still within me?

@BananaProjects I thought the voice acting was pretty decent. Not too horrible, but they did spoiled the more emotional parts of the game for me, like the ending. The only one I absolutely can't stand, to this day, is Yuna's English voice, that was one bad voice acting. For me, her voice failed to bring out Yuna's personality. As for the rest, they're okay.

@thespiritmage Well... they didn't even know that the machina was Rikku (or rather... they didn't know she was the one controlling it), and judging how they took her in quickly they already knew her enough (or at least heard of her from Yuna). I take that they trust Rikku's experience and abilities in the battlefield more than Tidus's?
It's funny how the producers of the game allow players to change the name of Tidus to whatever name they want, so they didn't make Tidus' name mentioned even once in the game.
@nekohanten0910 By FFX, Tidus is never referred by name because he can be renamed, along with the Aeons. By Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia, he can be referred as "TEE-dus" or "TAY-dus".
Rikku's theme song is my best fav outta all FFX music. IDK why, it's just that I like Rikku & Yuna in FFX more than in FFX-2. They look much more modesty and feminine here =)
I like how Auron asks specifically to see her eyes because it's a dead giveaway of her race, and then in the next panel Wakka's looking right at them and somehow misses the whole point

It's hard for me not to hear the Bender in Wakka's voice (same voice actor as Bender on Futurama if you didn't know) haha! Honestly, the only issue I had with the voice acting in this game would have to be Tidus. Main characters should never be whiney. Insecure, emo, maybe a bit of a dick (Squall), sure, but not a sniveling child. It makes it very difficult to connect with him as a character. And it's just plain annoying. Tara Strong is by far my favorite though (and so hot irl, btw)
Sweet scene. Almost makes me wish the first three or four hours of FFX hadn't been so terrible, maybe I'd have reached this. Wonder if the game got any better as it went on...
Kay, seriously. When they did the SECOND close-up of Rikku's ass while she was stripping, I just burst out laughing. All I could think was "You have GOT to be kidding me."
And this is unrelated but MAN the voice-acting in this game eats. If you took out the subtitles then this would be the most awkward stunted dialogue since "The Room" (oh hai Rikku...)
@shougoh Hell yes it's something to complain about! "Metal Gear Solid" had fully voiced cutscenes three years before this came out on the friggin PS1, and those were spectacularly voiced by some of the best voice actors in the industry. The acting and direction for these voice actors is just shoddy, lazy, and more often than not flat out annoying!
@JamesOhGoodie I completely disagree. The only issue was lip sync, which couldn't be helped. Look up these actors; most of them are veterans and heavyweights of the American voice acting industry. This project was treated with respect. You've got Tara Strong and James Arnold Taylor in that scene for goodness sake!
@kawaiiamethist Great actors both (Tara Strong's a personal favorite of mine), but that doesn't mean their performances weren't either flat (like Rikku) or friggin' annoying (like Tidus). I chalk it up to bad direction because more often than not that can lead to bad performances (see Star Wars prequels).
Maybe that's the part of the game when you notice Tidus and Wakka are totally disoriented... Like.. Tidus only recognizes Rikku when she takes her 'Al Bhed hunter' uniform (or w/e) off but he had never seen her without it..and what about just attacking a machina and asking about her situation? omg <.<
And Wakka would have to be totally dizzy not to notice Rikku's '?' face about his prayer to Yevon and most importantly, her pretty eyes! Talk about body language... maybe he was too distracted..
Does Tidus suffer from a special form of brain damage? How is it that he only recognizes Rikku after she takes that jumpsuit off? His previous experience seeing her she was constantly wearing it.

Kay, seriously. When they did the SECOND close-up of Rikku's ass while she was stripping, I just burst out laughing. All I could think was "You have GOT to be kidding me."
And this is unrelated but MAN the voice-acting in this game eats. If you took out the subtitles then this would be the most awkward stunted dialogue since "The Room" (oh hai Rikku...)

@shougoh Hell yes it's something to complain about! "Metal Gear Solid" had fully voiced cutscenes three years before this came out on the friggin PS1, and those were spectacularly voiced by some of the best voice actors in the industry. The acting and direction for these voice actors is just shoddy, lazy, and more often than not flat out annoying!

@JamesOhGoodie Those reasons are:
1.) Hideo Kojima got to direct his game however he wanted. he was free to control every aspect of the game and use tons of money per game.
2.) Square at the time was unfamiliar with putting voices in their Rpg. Everyone's first venture into something new won't be just amazing.
3.) Its a Jrpg. There will always be imperfect voice acting when its dubbed.

@JamesOhGoodie I completely disagree. The only issue was lip sync, which couldn't be helped. Look up these actors; most of them are veterans and heavyweights of the American voice acting industry. This project was treated with respect. You've got Tara Strong and James Arnold Taylor in that scene for goodness sake!

@kawaiiamethist Great actors both (Tara Strong's a personal favorite of mine), but that doesn't mean their performances weren't either flat (like Rikku) or friggin' annoying (like Tidus). I chalk it up to bad direction because more often than not that can lead to bad performances (see Star Wars prequels).

Maybe that's the part of the game when you notice Tidus and Wakka are totally disoriented... Like.. Tidus only recognizes Rikku when she takes her 'Al Bhed hunter' uniform (or w/e) off but he had never seen her without it..and what about just attacking a machina and asking about her situation? omg <.<
And Wakka would have to be totally dizzy not to notice Rikku's '?' face about his prayer to Yevon and most importantly, her pretty eyes! Talk about body language... maybe he was too distracted..

Does Tidus suffer from a special form of brain damage? How is it that he only recognizes Rikku after she takes that jumpsuit off? His previous experience seeing her she was constantly wearing it.
