  • I want to get one now!!!!!!!! Mommy give me a rat

  • Comment removed

  • @machinegunopera I think that's a bird cage o_0.

  • If they chew on everything, they would chew u to death

  • The cage was okay at first for a rat at that age... But all that stuff inside isnt really neccesary. They take all the space and can be very dangerous if chewed on!

  • I currently have two boys. I find that having a tall cage with multiple levels made from their hammoks works best. They had wood shelves before but they got WAYY too nasty and moldy even with frequent cleaning. Hammoks are easy cuz i can just toss them in with the laundry. and they are cheap. Any comments on this idea?

  • @drtyprplpandapws good idea! i have a question, how long to rats usually live? i have one that i got at 8 weeks and ive had him for just about a year and i was wondering how love he will live. :) thanks

  • @rodeogirl13245 About 3 years on average. But the healthier ones can last 4 or maybe 5 years. But I hear thats rare.

  • he did say a COMPANION RAT. SO fuck.you

  • would the following measurments be good enough for a rat 52.5 x 26 x 52cm. it is a cage that has a ank type thing in the bottom and a wire part at the top ?

  • @SixShotViiPeRz Two baby rats will do just fine in a cage like this but it won't be suitable for adult rats in the long run. They need more space. Something twice that size would be perfect for few adult ratties. Please don't get only one rat. Two rats of the same sex won't cost you much more but will be much, much happier and will love your attention just as much as a single rat would.

  • Don't use a cage with a wire floor!!! Rats have sensitive feet and this can hurt them also the wheel used in this video was a poor choice as it had gaps the ray could catch it's toes or tail in

  • this is the bades shit ever the cage need to be alot bigger and he need to have a room mate

  • That is one ghetto-ass cage.

  • im 11 and im begging my mom for arat She says if im responcible i can get it. I just need to say I have LOADS! of info of how to care and everything! I JUST NEED HER TO CHANGE HER MIND!!!

  • Do NOT get an aquarium tank. Rats have respiratory problems and tanks can be very harmful. Also, I learned with my hamsters in past life, wood chew toys are bad. They can splinter in the rodent's stomach causing internal bleeding...

  • I want a rat sooo bad and this is a great info vid

  • i used to have rats they are soooooo sweet, and also i used ceader bedding and nothing bad happened to them

  • @noleenamoon ceader is fine if its untreated. if its treated and they chew on it than that is bad for the the treatment not the ceader its self

  • Eeeeeeeww

  • I only buy rats to feed to my pet snake...

  • @rahmurdaloc same here xD

  • can i feed my hamster green apple slices for treats? im trying to train her to do backflips.

  • Aww, I want a rat but there is no way my mom would ever let me get one! I'm lucky she'll let me get a mouse! (I call mice mini rats to make me feel better)

  • @theBBQninjaRocks Believe it or not, mice actually smell a lot more pungent than rats! Good luck trying to convince her! ^_^

  • I like your watch.

  • @Cotif11

Yes it is vital! If your Rat has a friend, it will be more happy, it will never be lonely, there's NO WAY unhappiness and loneliness will make your pet live longer. Not only that, but if your pet is happy, it will be a better pet FOR YOU. think about when your in school or work, that poor Rat will be alone for hours. Always have two, when one dies, get another. Lots of luck!

    ~The Rat King~

  • my rat hannibal is such a sweetheart <3

  • Is a companion rat a vital asset?

  • I'm saving a little feed rat from Petco this Saturday :P

  • just use newspaper bedding. only if it's the bio friendly ink. also, some parrot food is great for rats because it has fruits seeds and nuts. as long as it dosn't have red peppers in it.

  • Scabbers!

  • 1st Cage is too small. Unless its temporay.

2nd Pine Shavings are fine as long as when u smell them they dont smell like chemicals and feel greasey CEDAR ISNT GOOD! U can have 1 rat but make sure you play with it alot.

Plastic cage is fine but toys might be chewed depending on your rat mine doesnt like to chew on plastic only chews on wood .

I use water bottle as my rat doesnt get how to work the water bottle.

MOST RATS WONT USE WHEELS! AND ITS GOTTA BE HUDGE IF U DO GET ONE!!!

  • @JonesGal14 all my rats love wheels. lol. My big daddy practically lives in it.

  • @ixie122 At the pet store, my mom's rat was called big mama.

  • you will need a rat.

    NO SHIT SHERLOCK!

  • 1st, too small cage

2nd, plastic can be dangerous to rats, if they gnaw it

+ the wheel is too small & the bedding can also be dangerous.

  • I miss my ratties! Someday I will have more and a whole room dedicated to playing with them!

  • I had a hamster once. But not too long ago it died. I got it from a pet store you see. They were very decitful in how they sold it to me. Saying about there childhood experinces with hamsters. It bit when it was tried to handled. We even got advice from the vet. It was 10 weeks old when we got it and it has never been handled or properly cared for. Now im getting a rat froma responsible breeder and she can point out the healthy ones etc. Moral of the story: pet stores, not what they seem.

  • Rats are just as clean as dogs or cats. Bigger the cage, the better, though they should come out of their cage daily.

  • When I'm done taking care of my rats and play with them I have to wash my hands or take a shower. becouse I get a iritated skin of them. my brothers don't got that problem.

  • @KIDZanimalcity you're probably just allergic, the way some people are allergic to cats or dogs. It happens. It sucks, but it happens.

  • also a thing that wasn't in this video thay have to have a hour out of the cage every day!lol but i have had rat for a long time but i feel like i am not giving her the care she needs please give me any info on petrat you know please please please

  • This video is better than a lot of rat care videos out there. It still isn't perfect though. The straw they showed on the bottom of the cage can be dangerous, believe it or not. Rats have been known to poke their eyes out on straw bedding. Aspen or recycled paper is a much better option. Also, a wheel needs to be quite big to avoid rats from damaging their spines running in them. Exposed spokes can also catch rats' tails and damage them.

  • @foxyfantagegirl16 Uh, who ever told you that is a moron. That is NOT true.

  • you will need: a rat No Really?!?!?

  • that rat is so cute!

  • how did you do the cage? its cool

  • @EveryoneEatsShit i am not taking advice from a guy whoms name is Everyoneeatsshit. sorry pal

  • okayy,,wth is with that cage??? and feeding your rat threw the bars of the cage?? and and exercises wheel?? really??... there not mice man...

  • AWESOME Except the cage can give them bumble foot. Try covering the floor with polar fleece.

  • Step 8 is Fail

  • i watched this with my rat. :D

  • that rat has it made !

  • i feed my rat pizza crust and he seems ok

  • @kickflip441 rats are scavengers they can eat almost anything

  • never get just one rat...

  • I had a rat when I was 4 until I was 5. His name was Ratty Boy.... how original.

  • my rat just died :( what did I do wrong

  • So many things wrong in this video o_o better still than expertvillages.

1; that cage is way too small

    2; rats shouldn't be alone

3; plastic toys can be rly dangerous

  • @Ewizdu yes this is absolutely stupid.

  • @Ewizdu r u dumb they said in the vid to have more than 1 rat and no u spaz rats are not dangerouse i have had several rats for over 3 years

  • @Ewizdu actually that cage is fine for one rat yes it would be small if there was two rats but there wat only one. yes rats do better in pairs but if you give them enough attention its fine. also he did say that rats do better with a partner. and it depends on what plastic it is. Get your information right before you put people down.

  • @beautyfan66 Cultural differences, you see. In Finland we have kinda strict rules with animals. Yeah, people can keep their rats in small cages without company, but they should always remember that humans can't replace another rats company, and without space to move and play around they can get sick.

  • @Ewizdu It clearly states twice that the rat should have a companion friend.. -_-

  • @Ewizdu at the beginning they sayed

    "a companion rat"

  • all of ya that spams my comment, gives me a thumbs down, or replies to me, I DONT CARE!

  • @killstar16 i never knew you hav so much hatred on rats

  • stomp on that mothafucka!

  • Artgerechte Haltung ist was anderes.... in dem Käfig kannst du ne tote Ratte halten. Aber bei ner lebenden ist das Tierquälerei!

  • Comment removed

  • @vitra198 humans are fucking disgusting more than those cute rats!

  • ewww i hate rats!

  • @vitra198 Well Then Don't Watch The Video.

  • @vitra198, ROFL and rats hate yuhhh(:

  • OMG! this cage is WAAAAYYY TOO SMALL!!! and why do they only show ONE RAT... even though they even speak of companion rats?! aren't there already enough rats that have to vegetate in tiny cages without any social interaction with a companion?!

  • Comment removed

  • animal cruelty....

  • Comment removed

  • definitely the best company uploaded rat care video!

  • you are not suppose to feed your rats iceberg lettuce (reg lettuce) like they did in this video it is deadly to them!

  • @ashleybrashier It's not deadly, just unhealthy. Iceberg lettuce is 99% water, so they aren't getting any thing from it.

  • @Iizarockstarz true.. the vet just told me that he said that because its all water it will make them ummm how do i say this lol .... go to the bathroom abnormally and they can get dehydrated and die i dunno thats just what they told me

  • "choose one with thick fur"

What about the hairless babies???? ;)

  • That cage is really small. Mine have 80x50x80cm and they spend few hours a day free in my room :) Never put rats in aquariums, they love to climb and need better ventilation. Both males and females get along well and should be kept at least in pairs.

  • That's a decent cage if you only plan on keeping one small rat in a living room area at once. The cage it lives in full time should be MUCH larger, especially because that rat may very well double in size. It should also live with a cage mate. And I say "full time cage" but they really should spend more time outside than in. To properly care for a rat, you're going to have to spend a lot of time, and even money, unless you're creative and sew your own hammocks/build your own accessories.

  • i want a rat but i already have a ball python=(

  • howcast has everything!!

  • oh shit i have seeder for my rat cage and y r there chemicals in them

  • @thegtaman123456789 the oils and scent of the cedar is bad for their lungs

  • @thegtaman123456789 Cedar wood naturally has chemicals in it. It's not just the chemicals that are bad for the rats or any small animal for that fact. Cedar AND Pine has a very strong smell that is horrible for a rat because it causes upper respiratory/breathing problems in small animals. I use shredded paper for my rats bedding. Aspen on the other hand is ok for rats because the smell isn’t as strong.

  • that was gayly retarded! you dont have 2 have a whell if you get ur rat out all the time

  • i have a rat with a HUGE cage lol it was $50 off of i think petsmart.com or petco.com but it was shippped and they dont have it in stores i would get aspen bedding too if your getting a rat btw that cage was wayyyy too small also i have a house for him thats big and its edible! lol i would consider getting that and some food toppings my rat has 3 stories and i need to get her some more toys but i gave him a hamster wheel just as a toy

  • The information in this video is a lot better than most, however that cage is still too small. Also, hay shouldn't be used because dust inside it can damage their delicate respiratory system and they can actually poke their eyes on protruding stalks. No mater how cool your rats' cage is, it still needs at least an hour out of its cage to run around and to interact with you.

  • NEVER feed your rats or give them bedding through the bars of their cage! if you stick your fingers through the bars, they'll bite them cause they think they're food or bedding. only give it to them by opening the door, or when they're taking a nap, silently put it on the cage floor as a surprise! :)

  • my adventurous female rat bit me on the nose once cuz i accidentally stuck it up in her cage. but i still love her to death. thats how sweet rats are.

  • My rat cage has 3 stories. :D

  • That's are not true! Rats not livening like that! They're needs big cages not small! That's all wrong!

  • @foxyfantagegirl16 Sorry girlie, but you are seriously missinformed.

And besides, if you hate rats that much, why on earth did you watch this video?

  • is the vet afriad of the rat lol

  • that vet looks scared of the rat

  • thats a really cool rat cage

  • This is a pretty good video for rat care, better than some ive seen. That cage will however be too small once the rats are a bit bigger.

  • I love all pet rodents exept the house rat. . .

  • lol i usto hate rats because i thought they were ugly and etc. buh this video is awesome because now i noe more bout them n i am proud to say they r cute! n if u do research they r awesome pets to have!

  • Whats with the hating on hamsters,it's like animal racism.

  • @125funnystuff thats the best comment I've read in months!

  • rats shouldnt be kept in tanks and that cage in the video is terribly small. the wheel in the video is also far too small, a rat wheel should be a minimum of 12 inches in diameter in order to not cause spinal problems.

  • @wizzyjo Yeah, I agreed with you. I have 2 baby rats Si and Blu and their cage is 4 X bigger than the one in the video.

Also, you have to make sure their tails can't get caught in wheels. If you intending keeping boy rats (Bucks) don't even bother with a wheel. Male rats are lazy and it's unlikely they will use them.

  • his voice sounds like a pedo bear

  • could you wonderful people at howcast also teach me how to post a comment on a youtube video?

  • Hamsters are much better, rats have UGLY long tails, but hamsters don't.

  • @xzj921

......I don't know what to say...

  • @xzj921 Yes, but hamsters are dirtier, stupider and virtually untrainable.

Also, I disagree with the use of wire mesh in rat cages, as they can injure their feet and tails on the wire mesh or even get themselves caught in it. Using sturdy plastic cage shelves is risk-free.

  • Here.

Hamster pros: Cute, short tails, small cages.

Rat pros: Cute, NEVER bite when raised properly, very clean, don't smell, playful, easily litter trained, you can tickle them AND THEY LAUGH, they POPCORN, which is the cutest thing in the world, sometimes they smell like grape soda and other nice things, they lick you and groom you, they bond to you very very closely.

Rats are the only animals other than humans and some primates that understand casual relationships. You should search it up.

  • @xzj921 yeah but hamsters are dirty untrainable bite more and sleep all day how mutch use is that?

  • @xzj921 But hamsters would bite you in a heart beat. Rats are gentle animals who are full of love... Hamsters are also stupid. You know there is a type of rat genetic called the "Tailless rat" They don't have tails. ;)

  • @xzj921 And hamsters will bite you in a second, unlike rats. It's hard to find a rat willing to bit you. And this is coming from someone who had about 15 years of hamster experience, and every hamster I have ever owned ended up to be sweet.

  • @foxyfantagegirl16 Well you've gotten some wrong information. I've been peed on by plenty of rats over the past 10 years and i've never gotten an infection from it. If yo hate rats so much, why did you bother to watch the video? I have NEVER gotten sick or any kind of infection from my pet rats.

  • @MsMercury Finally some one with some smarts!

  • @WeLoveRatsToo Thank you! I love my ratties!

  • @MsMercury You're welcome! I love my soon to own ratties haha!

  • @foxyfantagegirl16 my rat peed on me and pooped on me but since i still love her i dont care

  • @foxyfantagegirl16 That is not true. I've pet rats for 10 years. Never once have I ever gotten an infection from them.

  • Turd?

  • ive always wanted a rat

  • @griffBanzaa I highly recommend them! They make wonderful pets but please do lots of research on them before you get one. If you want suggestions on good websites then send me a pm and I will do that.

  • @MsMercury i am alright thanks, when i leave uni i will start looking stuff up but that wont be for a long while

  • @griffBanzaa rats are wonderful pets but sometimes messy and we got mine for free because petsmart accidentally put a male and a feamle together and they had to give them away

  • @griffBanzaa Adopt or get one from a breeder. One of the best pets you will ever have. So smart and loving!
