This is one great turntable! I picked up one from a thrift store about 30 years ago, and used it for a good 10 years before I parted with it. Many newer audiophiles have no clue how wonderful these and other tables of the period were. Add a GE VR II, and it's unbeatable for 78's. With a Shure or Pickering cart, they are solid performers for LP's too.
I use a high end table these days, but I still remember the Type A fondly. Great side too, Cheers!
@stratocat9999 I have a number of different turntables, changers, and vintage record players. I have the Luxman PD-131 with a Magneplanar Magnetrac tonearm posted, and also the Bang & Olfusen, the Dual 1229 and 1219. I have a Thorens TD-125 with a Rabco tonearm, but have never posted it on youtube. The Garrard type A was considered one of the best in the early 1960's.
@maynardcat I was up to about 16 turntables at one time, anything from old broadcast tables (Rek-O-Kut G2B with a 16" platter comes to mind) to mid to high end tables. Now I just have one; my Technics SP15.
Hey, it's my Garrard's identical twin! I've got a Shure 78rpm cartridge and stylus in a spare headshell for mine... 78s rock on the console. Your Garrard looks minty, just like mine
@LtColumboLAPD This Garrard came out of the custom made stereo I also have posted under Sherwood. This Garrard was custom installed in the Cabinet with the Sherwood tube stereo amp by David Beatty Stereo, a very high end dealer that use to be in town. He had only the finest of everything. That is his logo above the speed selector. The finger lift on the head shell is also unique. This has a GE type 11 cartridge, but I would recommend the Shure N-78 or Grado 78 cartridge for better tracking
Great turntable. I have a few Type A's. You will find that the turntable will slow down or stop in automatic cycle when playing at 33 or 45 rpm. You will need a rebuilt rubber idler wheel for the unit. I had one installed in mine and now it works perfectly.
That's great Bill, thanks for sending it to me:)
I love that changer. I need to get my player pianos listed again. Thanks for sharing this with me. Sounds great

@stratocat9999 I still havey my Rek-0-kut N-34 H, it was my 2nd turntable , and my first was an AR.

@maynardcat Yeah, I remember the AR as a very pure sounding table. The N34H is a sweet table too. I had the B12 that was my primary 78 table.

Sounds great. Please let us know the type/brand of cartridge/stylus. Clueless on which 78 cartridge to get...there's a gazillion of them.
Never seen one with the unique HI-FI sticker above the speed selector - how does it differ from other Type A's?
Finally, where can one get that cool brush?
Thank you for sharing....Now THAT'S music!
