boy, these guys refereed and managed or booked anything to make a buck and continue to work in wrestleing.do you think today people would do that.the only one is teddy long.ref, manager and general manager.
@melbz1266 No, he passed away this past March 20 of 2010. The ref is future manager of the original Sheik, Eddie Creatchman and the commentator is Lord James Blears, BTW.
@acehighpat Thanks, Pat. I knew Layton was The Sheik's TV announcer for years and even had a brief feud with him in the early '70s. I just found out about Carpentier's passing. Amazing high flyer who could also get on the mat and wrestle with the best.
@elc1960 Yeah, I found out about his passing last night. I showed this match to kids I was baby sitting when I was in high school. They were bored with it since they were used to Hulk Hogan and Iron Sheik, but when Carpentier went into his finishing move, they were amazed.
@acehighpat Still true to this day. Look at the response to "old school" wrestling videos from the '70s here on YouTube. You can tell the age of the commenters by how they view old wrestling footage. If they like the older stuff, more often than not they're over 35, and if they're bored by it they're 15 - 25 years old. I'd like to hear Rosie Macomber's reaction to Edouard's passing. She was his long-time fan club president and was as good an authority on him as anyone.
Phony one shouldered pin but that was rather common in wrestling like that well into the 70s and beyond..i never knew edouard was that great although i knew he was great.
Valentino (Baron Sxicluna)a classic heel and and one of the biggest performers in wrestling..he was awesome.

@elc1960 Actually, the commentator is Lord Layton. I have the video where this is from. Lord Layton wrestled with Blears before hosting.

So I'm assuming this is from '57 when Carpentier was recognized as the NWA champion?
