This is not a debate, this is an intelligent man and a woman smashing two idiotic morons! No beginning nor end to space nor time?!?!? This guys do not understand anything about cosmology, science or anything. Why would they even claim that they can scientifically prove god?!?!?! The only thing that has no limit is the ignorance of these two...
God is foolishness to those that are perishing.People don't like God's moral laws, they want to do what they want, without guilt. You can tell by all the STDs that imorality is wrong.God knows what is best for us,He created us.For those who don't believe, please pray to Jesus Christ with honesty, and a pure heart, and you will find what you seek. Ok, so what have we learned from this installment of the debate? That Cameron and Comfort are REALLY bad at debating. In a moderated debate you NEVER say, "No, I don't want to respond." As soon as you say that, you LOSE. Because you're admitting that you can't counter the other side's argument. Cameron only ended up responding because the moderator pushed him to. Bad form.
4- Another point, is that the chance of the earth, solar system, and life conditions to happen by a massive unexplainned explosion is almost 1/infinite so, a miracle. the simplest "theory" is God.
@TheSoundCorp"the chance of the earth, solar system, and life conditions to happen by a massive unexplainned explosion..."
No, the big bang wasn't an explosion, it was an expansion. "...is almost 1/infinite. the simplest 'theory' is God"
No, it's called God of the gaps, you cant explain why this happened, or how it happened, so you say god did it. Just because science doesn't know all the answers doesn't mean you should make one up.
I don't know is a better answer then saying god did it
@gradsssara Hmm i will just link a 5 minute video answering that God of Gaps... this should provide some argument, by the way those 2 theists were sadly awful, if you have time check the same author video about the topic (not hard to find). And I'm sorry for the mistakes like explosion, it is expasion really. watch?v=QQR_SuSyTNI
1- They can't prove that a eternal god isn't real just as much Kirk can't (prove what created god) by Stating the fact that it must have a creator's creator.
2- Also a Eternal God would have created the universe as it is, so it obbeys the thermodynamic (sorry if miss spelled) law.
3- Another fact, is that if the universe has always been there some force had to react and made it "explode", this is stated in Dawkins book, where it show at the beginning "Unknow forces" -.-
If Christians will leave the 'realm of time', when they go to heaven, and God knows 'everything' and 'has a plan', then why not just START out in the realm of eternity? One might argue that we have free will, and have to choose god, or no (Christian) god. Then God isn't omnipotent
@yeungter23.that was a very good quote I agree with every thing u said people need to take there heads out of there asses and accept death as apart of life this applies to the whole universe just look at star there's a point in time when the star well die our plant well die this process is happening everyday in the universe its taking place right now as I type this text lol!
The true reason people believe in religion is because they fear death. Think to yourselves: What religion does not have some sort of afterlife whether it is a heaven or a rebirth? When people accept that death is a part of life, then that is when they will realize that all this time we have dedicated to our gods is wasted time. Go out and live life freely, not in some church or temple begging for forgiveness from infinite punishment for finite crimes. LIVE YOUR LIFE.
@Yeungster23 that is such bull crap, we dont believe in God because we fear death idiot, He doesnt make us believe in him we choose to , because he is the WAY the TRUTH and the LIFE
@elibeth121 Lol! If he is the WAY the TRUTH and the LIFE, then by definition we have no say, so therefore he is "choosing" for us. And really? You don't find the highest appeal of religion to be the fact that it incorporates an afterlife? Please...
@Yeungster23 you have free will whether to believe in him or not. Yes, I know that the afterlife consists of Heaven and Hell. What I dont know is whether anyone at the moment of death ca look absolute love in the face and still say NO. But, our freedom that that decision possible.
Kirk and Rey are bunch of bafoons. lol God must be like these 2 assholes are making me look bad!! ROFL!!!!! oh wait a minute they can't prove God exist.
LMFAO! I expected a moment like that towards the end, but it wasn't any less hilarious when it actually hit. I guess I'd consider myself spiritual to a degree, but Kirk and Ray come off as really myopic in this debate. They are hammering the shit out of this one singular angle throughout the entire discussion without conveying any other substantive information.
@quietsparks1 No, because every theist claims that God spoke matter/energy into existence and that God is the only eternal thing(though no scripture ever points out what material God is made of, there is no reason to believe that He is made of matter/energy, actually most theists claim He is supernatural, it is simply lack of evidence). God created matter and energy while the third law of thermodynamics completely refute it. So far in time, there is no proof of God, simply using Occam's Razor.
@VampirePraemium Hi, but again the third law of thermodynamics does not support the idea that matter and energy made themselves. The problem is, even if we were to refuse the existence of God, we are still left with the question, where does matter, energy, air and the space come from. Scientists and atheists can not answer this questions. Unless they come up with a belief or a new form of religion. Thank you and regards.
@tuberman890 as if all physicians are atheists?? Keep caring and researching and you will see that 1000s of physicians DO NOT believe what you believe !!ouch!!
@quietsparks1 How did your English get so bad from your last post? Good job with using copy and paste. Also, he wasn't stating that all Physicians are atheist. He said read up and learn about the STUDY of PHYSICS.
He talks about space having no end. We believe there is no end because we can't find evidence of there being a beginning or end to space. It is the same reason we don't believe in God. We have no evidence of its existence.
can you feel the PWN?...it was back and forth until this...kirk and the banana man had no response..one could say they conceded the point...how delicious
0:48 Time is nothing more than a man made method of measurement. Its a way to measure aging of both living and non - living things and also used as a way to schedule future events. Nothing more. It drives me crazy to hear people talk about time as something more than it is. something magical and deep.
if god lived in a dimension were their was no time then there would be no movement, and that would be in the 1st,2sd,or 3rd dimension witch is completely retarted
Wow...that moderator is kinda showing where his allegiance lie, but maybe it's just because the theist argument pre-suppose far to much to be taken seriously. That first question is in fact the very first one I asked myself at the beginning of my journey to becoming an atheist: how can I have the hubris to assume my God is the true God, when that view could be completely different just by being born and raised in another country that practices any other religion as the truth?
Sorry Ray you're wrong: according to Christian doctrine, you have to accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior in order to go to heaven. For those Jews that did not do that, they will not be going to heaven, according to that doctrine. Kelly was correct also about Hitler, if he actually did "accept Jesus into your heart" as the usual Christian mantra goes.
@GeorgeMcSandcracker And he probably didnt even notice he owned himself: he could have said what he said about any other religion, and I don't think he realizes that at all. Islam just so happens to have a holy text (quran), and a messenger from God (Muhammad)...I guess they're just a bunch of liars and frauds (they'd say the same about Christianity after all).
8:32 "I think that people can figure it out" .. yeah, they can and will NOW.. but religion, especially the Christian Church, has not only resisted FREE INQUIRY, but actively tried to stamp all science out as heresy or any other number of things. The fact that Galileo's heliocentric proposal (aka FACT) was banned by the church, and was forced to house arrest for the rest of his life by the church merely because he proposed that theory is Exhibit A of religion stifling human progress and knowledge
Lmaoooo they were in shock from his awesome response and didn't have any idea what to say at the end. You would think that would make them realize something about their beliefs and god, but it obviously hasn't lol
@perfectshot77 if only you know the unbelievable scope of how much we know for sure thanks to science. it would blow you away, dude. we've understood the biological component of emotional response for a very, very long time now.
@perfectshot77 Actually, emotions HAVE been proven "in a science lab." They're all linked to primitive responses to environment and group effort for a species as a whole - most human emotions are the result of very long term macro-evolution; notice how all emotions that are considered "good" and "pure" are ones that when put into effect help the human species survive as a whole.
For god to be real, he has to be the universe itself. otherwise... he doesn't exist. because existance is defined in matter and energy... and no energy has been found to be a god.
God IS why we are here in the first place, but we are asking who created God? rofl
The guy explained it easily. If the universe is believed to be infinite and nobody questions that, why does God have to have a beginning and and end? He's the essence of everything that exists, what you see and cannot see.
He created time in this life which is temporary. The rest has no end like the universe, and God isn't bound by time.
@mayi757 I will grant you this: It is possible that there is a creator of the universe, but there is no fucking way in hell that this creator is religious, vengeful, forgiving, etc...
Now that we agree that there CAN be a god, don't tell me there is a god. There is no proof for the existence of this god. Sure, there may be evidence, but that evidence implies the existence of any other god, especially one that I can make up right now. Since you can't prove me wrong, it must be true.
@mayi757 Here's another problem I have with people who believe in god and try to prove our lack of belief (athiesm) as being flawed. They keep changing their definitions of god when faced with opposing viewpoints.
Anslem's Proslogion is a famous example of this. For example: The question "How can god be merciful if he allows for suffering?" would be answered with, "God is merciful in his own way. A way in which we cannot possibly conceive of." Really? That's your answer to that question?
@mayi757 How can one possibly refute such an argument? "He's doing things in such a way you can't possibly conceive of." Well, bloody hell, that sure makes sense. If I can't conceive of it, then surely that's reason enough to believe in it.
Anyways, my tirade kind of digressed into the problems of a religious god and not so much the idea that a creator exists. But that's why I'm an agnostic athiest (one who doesn't believe AND doesn't know if god exists).
@mayi757 I am an athiest because you(generally speaking) can't prove that god exists and since there is insufficient evidence that god exists, I do not believe that he exists. However, I also can't know for sure that he doesn't exists (considering I can't prove he doesn't) ergo my position of agnosticism.
I hope people can see the difference between these two terms. One deals with belief and the other with knowledge. That's all I've got for now.
Creation, consciousness, etc. are evidence of a creator (God, if you will).
However, when a person LEAPS to the conclusions that they understand what God said, felt, did, looks like, etc., that person would normally be called a delusional idiot. But when a large group of people say it, it's called religion and the rest of the masses feel like they have to tolerate it. I think this sociological phenomenon is explained in The Tipping Point.
Almost all people DO force their spiritual awareness into one of the culture's fairy tale templates. And as Kirk said, these fairy tales are delusions and this process of templeting spirituality is idolatry. What Kirk misses is that Christianity IS JUST ANOTHER FAIRY TALE!
I believe the original story of Jesus is was a great spiritual story, but didn't have the fairy tale stuff (as Jefferson rewrote it). But it was purposely distorted to control the masses.
Unfortunately if the "something" in A has no time, then it's causing of the universe and the actual creation of the universe happen at exactly the same time, so the cause which existed in A is contemporary with the effect B, this does not make sense as the universe cannot exist and not exist at the same time. So, by saying that we think the universe began to exist, we ruled out our theistic explanation for how it began to exist, it doesn't "begin" in this sense.
Ok let A be the universe not existing and B be the universe existing. Time only exists in B as these guys have said. They want to prove A then B. So we have some options, the universe never start to exist, the universe never existed, A and B follow each other and something that does not exist in time within A caused B. Ok, so the universe exists, so we rule out the first 2. A can't come before B in time because time only existed in B.
people can figure it out? no response? no viable arguement? and the epic sigh at 8:24 lol wait wait my spleen my spleen i cant stop laughing at it. they failed so badly that at the end they noticed how bad they had fucked up
I admire what Kirk & the other are trying to do but they should preach, not debate because clearly they don't have the skills and knowledge!! If prefer watching people like Dr. William Lane Craig, he would have easily(!) refuted these wrong statements (the universe absolutely does have a beginning and one should also talk about the second law of thermodynamics....! ;-) and the law rrs is talking about is the first, not the third, he's really not that good he just has very poor competion :(
overall this debate is just very reserved on both sides. Kirk and Ray make valid points that reflect Christianity accurately, but don't really take it to a level that works in the format of a debate. RRS just kind of put forth some mundane and immature points that I have heard from discussions between high schoolers... while they make points against Kirk and Ray, they just don't ultimately bring anything new to the table. Then again, it wasn't their role to bring anything new to the table here
So god is not bound by time, because time is a dimension that only exists within the universe. That's why god doesn't require a creator, because he's outside. Well then why does the universe require a creator? Time is only something that exists inside of the universe, so how is the universe bound by something that only exists within it. Anyway creation is a temporal event, anything which is 'outside' time is by definition incapable of creation.
judging how they had kirk and ray speechless in the final question, athiesm won the debate, problem is die hard christians just simply choose to not see the obious truth
Well, Kirk and Ray are not intelligent, sophisticated Christians. Equally, RRS is not the best of atheists. William Lane Craig should be called upon, and I am inclined to say that RRS will lose. As for the atheist side, call Shelley Kagan, and most likely Craig will lose.
RRS in my opinion aren't that great at debating, however, all I could think of in this video was "slap, slap, backslap" to kirk and ray. It nearly embarassed ME how they couldn't properly respond to that final point.
I'm not joining the debate, just pointing out the scientific flaw when he states the universe has always existed. The Big Bang was a finite start. The universe is expanding and after about 22 billion years will end. For scientific examples look up the cosmological constant, dark energy or results of the "Boomerang" telescope.
@GoblinKnightLeo Yeah, I was referring to the three as examples of further study to see the evolution of thought. But, I'm a little confused by your last statement. Just for my own clarity, are you stating a constantly shifting universe (that begins and ends infinitely), something along the cyclical lines of the Ekpyrotic theorem, or the Multiverse and Bubble Theory?
@thisisntme1982 No. Bang/Silence cosmology supposes that the universal expansion will continue until the fabric of space-time rips. Because gravity cannot be exerted across such gaps, the remaining space-time and matter will be consumed by existing black holes, and because black holes (per Hawking) will eventually evaporate, the universe will end and stay ended.
This is also known as the "heat death" of the universe.
@thisisntme1982 Sorry, existing black holes already in the separated pieces of space-time. The will consume the pieces they are contained in, and will be in a void afterwards.
@GoblinKnightLeo Oh, I'm sorry. I completely misunderstood what you were saying. I am aware of the Bang/Silence cosmology, but I thought you were pointing it out as a means of evidence for eternal universe. While there are some scientists working towards the universe existing "before" the Big Bang, there is no evidence yet. An attempt has been the Ekpyrotic theorem, but is still an element of deductive reasoning from science rather than inductive (which is what science is).
@GoblinKnightLeo Sorry, ran out of room. Ha. The Boomerang telescope examined the cosmic background radiation ( finding a finite amount). The angular power spectrum showed a peak value at exactly the value predicted by the inflationary hot Big Bang model dominated by cold dark matter. Of course, they need the second peak for 100% clarity on a starting point, however the measurements and evidence lean more toward this.
@scheme86 The problem with that idea being that there's even less evidence that white holes exist than black holes, and there's also nothing to suggest how they would be connected to each other. Most people misinterpret the term "hole" in this context. "Black hole" is descriptive of the supposed appearance of the singularity, not comparative.
Our understanding of black holes is mathematical in nature, and it includes the idea that the captured matter does not go anywhere.
What I wonder about all of this is if Cameron and Comfort really believed they had anything to say at all or if this was more of a plan for them to gain greater publicity and claim that the media agrees that there is a great controversy.
There are things that are created by human beings, and there are things that are created by God--those that they do not understand why they exist in the Existencia.
Don't tell me there is nothing there, atheists. I dwelled in the dark for quite a long time until God called me to His light. So just relax;shut your big mouth and listen.
@Airlightf That doesn't even make sense as a comeback, let alone a logical response. If you wanna believe in God, that's cool, but believing something with no evidence makes you ignorant
if these guys were smart they wouldnt play the christian card so much and maybe focus on quantum physics and other philospophical questions like " Is conciousness a result of matter or matter a result of concioussness?" but these narrow minded buffoons cant even think outside the box or even say a word about other religions this debate is a complete joke if they wanted to make it more interesting they should have made the atheists argue against 20 religions
This is not a debate, this is an intelligent man and a woman smashing two idiotic morons! No beginning nor end to space nor time?!?!? This guys do not understand anything about cosmology, science or anything. Why would they even claim that they can scientifically prove god?!?!?! 0:48 Time is nothing more than a man made method of measurement. Its a way to measure aging of both living and non - living things and also used as a way to schedule future events. Nothing more. It drives me crazy to hear people talk about time as something more than it is. something magical and deep.

Totally owned at the end there by Kelly, and in a church of all places!
bernlin2000 11 months ago
Wow...that moderator is kinda showing where his allegiance lie, but maybe it's just because the theist argument pre-suppose far to much to be taken seriously. That first question is in fact the very first one I asked myself at the beginning of my journey to becoming an atheist: how can I have the hubris to assume my God is the true God, when that view could be completely different just by being born and raised in another country that practices any other religion as the truth?
bernlin2000 11 months ago
Sorry Ray you're wrong: according to Christian doctrine, you have to accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior in order to go to heaven. For those Jews that did not do that, they will not be going to heaven, according to that doctrine. Kelly was correct also about Hitler, if he actually did "accept Jesus into your heart" as the usual Christian mantra goes.

8:32 "I think that people can figure it out" .. yeah, they can and will NOW.. but religion, especially the Christian Church, has not only resisted FREE INQUIRY, but actively tried to stamp all science out as heresy or any other number of things. The fact that Galileo's heliocentric proposal (aka FACT) was banned by the church, and was forced to house arrest for the rest of his life by the church merely because he proposed that theory is Exhibit A of religion stifling human progress and knowledge

iansull 1 year ago
@perfectshot77 Actually, emotions HAVE been proven "in a science lab." They're all linked to primitive responses to environment and group effort for a species as a whole - most human emotions are the result of very long term macro-evolution; notice how all emotions that are considered "good" and "pure" are ones that when put into effect help the human species survive as a whole.

@MadTVNG AHAHAHA. "If God can be infinite, why can't the universe be infinite?"
acoti 1 year ago
@acoti laughing at your own limited logic?
God IS why we are here in the first place, but we are asking who created God? rofl
The guy explained it easily. If the universe is believed to be infinite and nobody questions that, why does God have to have a beginning and and end? He's the essence of everything that exists, what you see and cannot see.
He created time in this life which is temporary. The rest has no end like the universe, and God isn't bound by time.
mayi757 1 year ago
@mayi757 I will grant you this: It is possible that there is a creator of the universe, but there is no fucking way in hell that this creator is religious, vengeful, forgiving, etc...
Now that we agree that there CAN be a god, don't tell me there is a god. There is no proof for the existence of this god. Sure, there may be evidence, but that evidence implies the existence of any other god, especially one that I can make up right now. Since you can't prove me wrong, it must be true.
acoti 1 year ago
@acoti okay it must be true. idiot. There is a God
elibeth121 2 months ago
@mayi757 Here's another problem I have with people who believe in god and try to prove our lack of belief (athiesm) as being flawed. They keep changing their definitions of god when faced with opposing viewpoints.
Anslem's Proslogion is a famous example of this. For example: The question "How can god be merciful if he allows for suffering?" would be answered with, "God is merciful in his own way. A way in which we cannot possibly conceive of." Really? That's your answer to that question?
acoti 1 year ago
@mayi757 How can one possibly refute such an argument? "He's doing things in such a way you can't possibly conceive of." Well, bloody hell, that sure makes sense. If I can't conceive of it, then surely that's reason enough to believe in it.
Anyways, my tirade kind of digressed into the problems of a religious god and not so much the idea that a creator exists. But that's why I'm an agnostic athiest (one who doesn't believe AND doesn't know if god exists).
acoti 1 year ago
@mayi757 I am an athiest because you(generally speaking) can't prove that god exists and since there is insufficient evidence that god exists, I do not believe that he exists. However, I also can't know for sure that he doesn't exists (considering I can't prove he doesn't) ergo my position of agnosticism.
I hope people can see the difference between these two terms. One deals with belief and the other with knowledge. That's all I've got for now.
Thank you for your time mayi757.
acoti 1 year ago
Creation, consciousness, etc. are evidence of a creator (God, if you will).
However, when a person LEAPS to the conclusions that they understand what God said, felt, did, looks like, etc., that person would normally be called a delusional idiot. But when a large group of people say it, it's called religion and the rest of the masses feel like they have to tolerate it. I think this sociological phenomenon is explained in The Tipping Point.
Anyway, it's time we stop the madness.
TheGoalSetter 1 year ago
Kirk is actually very close!
But it was purposely distorted to control the masses.

twitchez2k 1 year ago
Unfortunately if the "something" in A has no time, then it's causing of the universe and the actual creation of the universe happen at exactly the same time, so the cause which existed in A is contemporary with the effect B, this does not make sense as the universe cannot exist and not exist at the same time. So, by saying that we think the universe began to exist, we ruled out our theistic explanation for how it began to exist, it doesn't "begin" in this sense.
in3x 1 year ago
Ok let A be the universe not existing and B be the universe existing. Time only exists in B as these guys have said. They want to prove A then B. So we have some options, the universe never start to exist, the universe never existed, A and B follow each other and something that does not exist in time within A caused B. Ok, so the universe exists, so we rule out the first 2. A can't come before B in time because time only existed in B.

I admire what Kirk & the other are trying to do but they should preach, not debate because clearly they don't have the skills and knowledge!! If prefer watching people like Dr. William Lane Craig, he would have easily(!) refuted these wrong statements (the universe absolutely does have a beginning and one should also talk about the second law of thermodynamics....! ;-) and the law rrs is talking about is the first, not the third, he's really not that good he just has very poor competion :(
menno000 1 year ago
overall this debate is just very reserved on both sides.

Anyway creation is a temporal event, anything which is 'outside' time is by definition incapable of creation.
omgiwaswrong 1 year ago
judging how they had kirk and ray speechless in the final question, athiesm won the debate, problem is die hard christians just simply choose to not see the obious truth
murderface0666 1 year ago
Well, Kirk and Ray are not intelligent, sophisticated Christians. Equally, RRS is not the best of atheists. William Lane Craig should be called upon, and I am inclined to say that RRS will lose. As for the atheist side, call Shelley Kagan, and most likely Craig will lose.

I'm not joining the debate, just pointing out the scientific flaw when he states the universe has always existed. The Big Bang was a finite start. The universe is expanding and after about 22 billion years will end. For scientific examples look up the cosmological constant, dark energy or results of the "Boomerang" telescope.
thisisntme1982 1 year ago
@thisisntme1982 You are referring of course to Bang-Crunch cosmology.
You might want to look into Bang-Silence cosmology.
And the cosmological constant was one of Einstein's errors.
And just because it has always existed doesn't mean it always looked like this.
GoblinKnightLeo 1 year ago
@GoblinKnightLeo Yeah, I was referring to the three as examples of further study to see the evolution of thought. But, I'm a little confused by your last statement. Just for my own clarity, are you stating a constantly shifting universe (that begins and ends infinitely), something along the cyclical lines of the Ekpyrotic theorem, or the Multiverse and Bubble Theory?
thisisntme1982 1 year ago
@thisisntme1982 No. Bang/Silence cosmology supposes that the universal expansion will continue until the fabric of space-time rips. Because gravity cannot be exerted across such gaps, the remaining space-time and matter will be consumed by existing black holes, and because black holes (per Hawking) will eventually evaporate, the universe will end and stay ended.
This is also known as the "heat death" of the universe.
Ekpyrotic theory I'm not familiar with.
GoblinKnightLeo 1 year ago
@thisisntme1982 Sorry, existing black holes already in the separated pieces of space-time. The will consume the pieces they are contained in, and will be in a void afterwards.
GoblinKnightLeo 1 year ago
@GoblinKnightLeo Oh, I'm sorry. I completely misunderstood what you were saying. I am aware of the Bang/Silence cosmology, but I thought you were pointing it out as a means of evidence for eternal universe. While there are some scientists working towards the universe existing "before" the Big Bang, there is no evidence yet. An attempt has been the Ekpyrotic theorem, but is still an element of deductive reasoning from science rather than inductive (which is what science is).
thisisntme1982 1 year ago
@GoblinKnightLeo Sorry, ran out of room. Ha. The Boomerang telescope examined the cosmic background radiation ( finding a finite amount). The angular power spectrum showed a peak value at exactly the value predicted by the inflationary hot Big Bang model dominated by cold dark matter. Of course, they need the second peak for 100% clarity on a starting point, however the measurements and evidence lean more toward this.
thisisntme1982 1 year ago
@GoblinKnightLeo then white holes spit them back out, u cant just say one aspect of the black hole theory come on now. dont make me out science u
scheme86 1 year ago
@scheme86 The problem with that idea being that there's even less evidence that white holes exist than black holes, and there's also nothing to suggest how they would be connected to each other. Most people misinterpret the term "hole" in this context. "Black hole" is descriptive of the supposed appearance of the singularity, not comparative.
Our understanding of black holes is mathematical in nature, and it includes the idea that the captured matter does not go anywhere.
