couple years ago my 50 size nitro create some vortex over snow,it got in to my receiver, the whole helicopter went crazy took off by it self and smash the snow
Dude you've got a set to try that. I'd say the tail blades would be fine...but get the electronics in the water, and you're toast. Is your rx not mounted on the bottom? I'd say there's a good risk of it getting splashed. On another note, those ducks think the world is coming to an end.
You should try with the rotor head in the water and fly out next time, lol. Have a 450 with onboard flip hd camera, cam mount and floats, landed on water then a gust of wind tipped it over. It was my fault for flying on very gusty day 15-20mph.
I wonder if you would get the same result with a bigger heli that has carbon tail blades....seems like they may shatter when you touch the water with them, maybe.
That was a great vid, you have some huge balls doing that. I went in the local pool upto just above the skids, any deaper and I would have just shit. And I can see that you were a good distance off the ducks, they have much worse shit to deal with when crossing infront of traffic, so thats nothing to them...lol. Keep up the great work.....
@jbailey618 - No really, we are about 20 feet away even though it seems closer. We're about 100 feet away from the ducks, and the cam is zoomed all the way in. It has the effect of "flattening" everything out and it looks closer together. Try it with your own cam or binoculars sometime.
@khxml - Thanks. We were careful to keep our distance from the ducks, they're just everywhere on the lake. Unfortunately the city is enacting an ordinance to euthanize many of them.
Do that without the tail fin and it will be a different story. The tail fin in the water prevented the plane from twisting to the right rapidly and probably going out of control.
Those birds will be fine..If they don't like heli's they should stay the hell out of ponds.
Well, maybe a funny experiment, but scaring the small birds like that isn't funny at all in my opinion. For their sake I wish you'd drowned the heli...
@Frobard - For their safety we mindfully and purposefully stayed at least 20 feet away from the birds so they wouldn't be harmed. - What's more terrible than the heli is that the city is now *intentionally* euthanizing these little ducks because they say there are "too many."
Poor ducks lol

@pi3k - Everything is mounted in its stock position. Any deeper and the water may have messed with the electronics, especially the RF.

just luck try it in a real heli :p
gpasi420 4 months ago
@gpasi420 - The tail rotor blades and supporting drive train hardware of a real helicopter would never handle the strain. You'd be going in.
