i dont know if anyone else realizes, but him switching the capo's constantly doesnt change the sound whatsoever, the black one is the only one that matters, and it doesn't move the whole time haha

But there are such things as partial capos. If you pay attention to the note hit on the open bottom e string it changes with the two capos. I didn't check to see if it changed any other tho
You see him move the silver capo, note drops. He uses his thumb between the black and silver capo and changes the note, the black capo has a notch cut out or just missing so it doesn't effect the bottom e string.
Yeah. What he's doing is changing one or two string's "open" note sound at a time. He's simply adjusting a single string for a different bass note. And the chord variation is much clearer. Try this song yourself, without using any of those capos, just get a 6 string, and try it. You'll be able to hear, feel, and see the difference.
Trace is just skilled with the capos. I started learning this song the day I heard it.

i didt understand the whole capo thing...if u have a capo on say the 3rd fret...anything u play on 2 or 1 cant be heard so it seemed odd that he kept moving the other 2 capos...
trace custom makes his own capos, he cuts knotches in the capos to where the strings pass freely through the capo allowing different tunes instead of the standard capo sound... and he moves each capo up and down the fret board to change the tune.. i actually tried this before and it is actually prett cool, just the hard part is trying to get the right knotches so it wont sound like a guitar out of tune but once i got it, it was amazing how creative you can get with a guitar..
I think that he just uses a different way of playing. So he uses a lot of capos, that does not make him a bad guitarist. Do you think you could play like him, with feeling and accuracy, with or without a capo? I highly doubt it. Give the man some respect, he plays differently, not bad.

quick question (to anyone who can help!): whats with all the capo's - I mean, if he has one on the 5th fret (i think), what difference would it make if the strings from the 5th to first fret are "cappoed"?

Some of his capos are partial, so when he moves one behind a partial capo only the non-capoed strings above change, but they do. Neat huh?

holy crap dude. my guitar teacher used to joke about me having to movee a capo half way through a song just to hit a powerchord, and you did that to an extreme. kudos

I played classical guitar for one year and got thru grade 8 and then some and got some impressive repertoire then I gave it away like an idiot for no reason oh man. I wish I could play this to the girl whose my fav, amazing expression, what an artist

I love Trace Bundy so much . . he's such a great guy. My family was lucky enough to enjoy a private concert when he played at my sister's wedding. I have so much respect for him as an artist and more importantly as a human being. Three cheers for Trace and other independent arists!!!

well you can actually buy some of the capos he uses like the Kyser "drop d" capo and their "short cut" capo. but ya some of his capos he customized himself

That's not something he learnd how to play. He must have been born with that gift. Is amazing. It's magic. Just the way he really understands music, the feeling he plays it with is A and O when he play a song. Wonderful
