  • Excelent cover man !!

  • Comment removed

  • That head with those Boss pedals? Doesn't make a lot of sense. Hope you're in a Pink Floyd cover band. Otherwise, trying to imitate a popular guitarist's tone is something you should've grown out of at age 16.

  • @blarghwastaken GIlmour uses boss pedals and I dont think you could complain about his tone... and tons of guitarists even famosu guitarists used plexis for example, does that make them Hendrix copycats? I dont think so

  • make sure rear mic is out of phase with the others

  • @Obelisk2290 Thanks. There is no rear mike. It's a closed back cabinet.

  • @Clyde67 souns good and ambient mic a couple feet away will make it fatter

  • Perfect Gilmour tone man!

  • Man, this is really nice. But those Boss overdrives... are junk. I have them both. If you want some serious stuff, try one of these: w.w.w(dot)vhrelief(dot)com/products/. I've got the 666 model. Totally awesome. Waaaay better than those Boss'. It's by our Czech maker. He cares about every piece. No damn chinese factory.

  • @zeppelinn Sounds great thanks. Note however, that I modded my Boss pedals and they do keep up with the boutiques now. Stock are frigged though!

  • @Clyde67 I see! Good for you then! Rock on!

  • top tone - i love hiwatt. had the custom 100 head long time ago. pure tone heaven

  • hummmm..... this is the DG tone !!!!!!

  • My ears just came.

  • great great tone!

  • that's terrific playing dude, & one of my favourite pieces of music ever - have played that passage MANY times myself... ;-)

the sound is sublime - I'm sure DG would be impressed

  • VERY NICE!

  • did you put the amp on clean then boost with boss sd1??

    what pickups are used??

    very nice sound my friend!!!

  • @darrylportelli Thanks a lot! From what I recall I used my Blues Driver to boost the tone slightly towards the end.

  • cant you hint at settings on the dd-5 and bd-2>

  • @mcnabb4mvp06 If I knew the settings sure... I just don't ever use the same ones. Every setup and every room is different. Also depends on my mood.

  • I envy you! Tone is pretttty damn close to Gilmour. Excellent playing. I would have got this amp in white. I'm a sucker for white amps.

  • damn, that sounds just like gilmour!

did gilmour use hiwatt his whole career?

i know he uses them now but how bout early with floyd?

  • @guitarshredda2 Thanks a lot! From what I understand he used some other amps early on like Selmer and maybe Sound City? But most of his well known stuff was Hiwatt based. He also used a few Fenders during his solo career and in the studio.

  • @Clyde67 well sound city amps are basicly hiwatts with anothername XD but what about the 100 watt version? did you try it? :)

  • @mouloudo Sort of. They're in the same vein. I haven't tried the 100 watt version of this amp. The only other newer ones I've played were the CP-103, and the Studio Stage which were both really great!

  • @guitarshredda2 since 1969 i believe.

  • love your tone and playing

  • nice gear m8

  • GREAT SOUND

  • Great job! Love the tone and would like to hear more...

  • Very nice sound textures! Very well recorded too...And, I really dig the girl on your guitar!

  • Thanks!!

  • nice work - if i had a dollar for every time i had played that passage of music i would be a wealthy man

it's not that hard to play the notes, but damned hard to play the feel. It's all about how you bend, vibrato, & sustain the notes, ie control.

    well done

  • Thanks a lot!

  • great playing man! i want your equipment...can i have it?

  • Haha, well you can.. just not MINE

  • Are you satisfied with the V30's? Would it be worth it to get a Reeves cab with those Vintage Purples?

  • I like the V30's. I'm not really sure about the 'Vintage Purples'

  • great but i feel you should try and craft your own sound but it sounds great want to add a highwatt to my mesa and ampeg and V4

  • do Hiwatts sound cleaner than fender amps?

ive never played one in person

  • Well, Hiwatts definitely have more clean headroom than most Fenders. You can pretty much crank up a Hiwatt all the way and not get distortion, unlike most Fenders. It's more like a Fender Twin in that respect.

  • I play mostly Floyd stuff and I play through a Fender Twin reverb. Its just as clean as Hiwatts. Hiwatts have more body and organic sounds to them. They use different tubes and they're made completely different. I got a Fender Twin because Gilmour uses a fender twin on small shows. Granted its an authentic late 50's tweed twin and not exactly the same as a twin reverb but the twin reverb gets the job done at 20% of the cost. Although I would rather have a Hiwatt if I had the cash.

  • you would buy hiwatt youst for 1 reason.

The Clean sound on witch you can lay down as much effects as you like and still have a greate sound like gilmour makes it

  • The tone from heaven indeed

  • hellow , very nice playing and sound , i agree thet this is probebly the best cover fo this song i have ever heard

i wnted to ask abaut the reverb you are using becous i know thet the HIWATT amps dond have a reverb

    thenk you :-)

  • Thanks! The verb I used was after the fact in Pro Tools. It's a stereo studio reverb. I'm not really a fan of many reverb pedals for this type of sound because I usually like it in stereo.

  • this is the best and most authentic sounding cover of this song i have ever heard. ive been looking for the gilmour sound myself too.. i have a hiwatt custom 50 2x12 combo with fane speakers. it sounds good, but cant seem to get this kind of sound.. i cant get that silky smooth sound like u and gilmour have.. my compressor broke before i got the amp,.. how much a diff does that make for a song like this? is ur cs3 a keeley mod?

  • My comp is a mod I did myself. I really don't think that the compressor will make or break your tone on this one. I really think it's more about capturing the playing style.

    Thanks for the great comment!

  • Amp......I want now.

  • Out of the 30 years of guitar playing, this is the best tone and playing of this song I have ever heard! Kick ass!

  • WOW!! Thanks so much! That's a really powerful statement!

  • Nice! I appreciate your use of Boss Pedals by the way. Turns out you don't actually need a Pete Cornish leotard to access Gilmour land.

  • Haha, very true. Though, most of mine are modified, I still didn't spend nearly as much as I would have on Cornish pedals and I think they sound great! Thanks

  • Absolutely incredible tone. Your playing is excellent as well.

  • Very good job man

  • Thanks, I appreciate it.

  • awsome amp dude

  • Thanks!! I know!!

  • Yes, that's the only "DG-504" I'm aware of.

  • Played extremely well though the tone wasn't exact. Probably because you couldn't push that monster amp into power tube clipping.

  • Thanks!

  • Freakishly excellent ! Five big fuckin' stars bro'.

  • Thanks a lot!! Watch for updates soon!

  • cool

  • Yeah, I think it could just use more gain. The boss pedals I use are pretty well modified and they sound MUCH better than the stock ones. The one I used for this normally sounds great! Thanks for your comment.

  • i like a lot the sound u get in the clean part, a bit less the part slightly overdriven....maybe the boss is not the right choice? good job though!

  • might want to tri largfe diaphragm condenser aabout 2 - 3 feet away and if its open back experiment by adding a mic in the bach and flip out of phase mix to taste

  • Great sound...very nice....

  • Thanks very much!

  • man i lke your sound . . .

  • Thank you!!

  • Sounds so great man.

  • Thanks a lot!!!

  • great cover man!

i love the sticker on your guitar, not just because it a girl but, it seems to fit the guitar PERFECT man, its like 1950's style or something like that lol. anyways it looks good :)

  • Haha, thanks. A friend of mine actually did that and when I bought the guitar off of him I left it on!!

  • You gotta be kidding me!!!!! That sounds so fucking amazing!

I love Hiwatts and and so keen to get one one day but man you do it justice!

Rock on (or should I say 'Shine On') brother!

  • Thanks a lot!!! It's all the amp!!!!!!!

  • so many great amps out there! this one is on my list. i just ordered a germino classic 45 since will never be able to afford a vintage one. i think the germino will be right there with the best of the jtm 45's. at least im hoping!

  • Awesome! I'll have to check those out. Good luck!!

  • Mate just beautiful, the playing and the sound. Found myself nodding away to it that much that i had to put on the live at gdanks dvd i've got to hear more. I've been looking for a valve amp to try replicate that sort of sound so i'll def be checking these out now. Cheers mate.

  • how did you get this tone? there´s a nice breakup there

  • Well, I'm pretty sure I cranked up the input quite a bit and used a tiny bit of a boost from a booster pedal to achieve that "bite" sound you're referring to. Some of it has to do with the playing style as well. For the last portion I kick on a drive pedal. See the description for more details. Thanks for checking it out!!

  • wow nice tone!

  • Thanks very much!!!!!! It's an awesome amp!!

  • Great job, bro. Love that Hiwatt tone :)

  • are you kidding me? His playing is great. And behind every comment like this there's a hint of jealousy.

  • Everyone has their own style. I'm not on here to bash anyone. If I was some kid sitting at home spending his parents money on gear then I'd agree. But I've done quite a bit of playing both in the studio and on the road. I've made good money playing music, and most of it went back into buying things that enable me to play more!

Thanks for checking out the video.

  • very nice sound man keep it up

  • Thanks a lot, I try!!

  • Awesome! I hope you had a chance to plug in!!!

  • hiwatt is the best! good solo

  • Thank you!

  • Very very nice cover

Could you tell me your DD-5 settings??

  • Thank You. I'm not sure of my actual settings. But I can tell you that my DD-5 is modded to decrease the high frequencies in the feedback.

  • how did that amp cost ??

  • Too much! You can find them online for various prices.

  • Yeah, they cost a lot of money. But, you may be able to get one on eBay.

  • really nice playing and weel made recording :O nice work :) keep it up:)

  • Thanks so much!!!

  • Could you explain the difference between the dr103 dg103 and the amplifier you're using?

    Which would be best?

    Thank you

  • The major difference is that the DG amps have a "linked input" available. Many Hiwatt users will link their inputs, but this allows you to not have to do that. I usually use the linked input myself. It still has the regular inputs as well.

I'd say whatever one you can get a better deal on would be best! They're very similar!

  • 1:08 Guitar cries

  • Indeed!! I wish I wrote it!

  • To be honest, I thought you used the original track, as kind of an introduction to the video and It turns out it was you!

  • Wow, you guys are all too kind. I don't think it sounds quite like the original, but of course you are your own worst critic!

    Thanks!!!!

  • I fucking love this clip your tone is near perfect and you actually get the feel unlike anone else i have heard cept Davey boy of couse!

I nearly cum every time i hear this ! Sorry if that is graphic but its that fucking good!

What mods have you done to your strats electrics ?

  • Wow... well, thanks I guess!! haha

I actually bought the Strat that's used for this clip from a friend. He put all Dimarzio mini humbuckers in, bigger frets, locking tuners, and a better string tree. I DONT think these mods are the best way to get the Gilmour sound, however, this is a VERY solid playing axe!!!

  • Oh, yes! Great sound! It is very close to Gilmour's sound.....

    Thanks for this video!

  • Thanks so much! I'm glad you like it. Check out the other videos I have up!!!

  • those pedals are suckin your tone to death .. get rid of the shit and use the amp

  • I wanted to give people an idea of what a Hiwatt sounds like with some pedals... They're pretty well known for taking pedals well. I have some other videos that showcase the Hiwatt alone.

Also, the pedals I'm using for this really don't suck the tone. I'm pretty anal about that, and I've modded most of my pedals.

  • Cool solo man!! Where did you get this backing track?

  • Thanks! See the description for all the gear used, track location etc.

  • i got the opto plus mod on my cs-3...

what are your settings for this solo?

  • Sorry, I really know. I don't document my settings or anything. I just do what sounds good. I think on that pedal I usually have a similar setting - Pretty quick attack, but not so quick the note wont get through, not TOO much sustain, just a bit, and the tone and volume to match the input.

  • I loved the strat at the end!

    Jacpascal3645

  • Thanks! That's the one I used to track this vid! It's one of the best playing strats I've ever played!!!

  • Man, U nailed that didn't U ?

U sleeping with the HiWatt cracks me up.

I have a VHR Hiwatt 504 Clone, its a purty clean amp. I use a Carl Martin Plexi with it. But, I think I'm going to get a Blackstar Booster or a Zvex Box of Rock

  • Haha, thanks. that picture actually ended up as an AD for a local music store. It was great... it read something like "The choice you won't regret in the morning."

  • WOW, really nice playing,

    cool gear too.

slightly more bluesy than Gilmore though,

    top notch.

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks! I've grown up playing a lot of blues, so I can understand what you're hearing, that makes sense.

  • Oh my... this is the best "cover" of Shine On" that I've heard. The sound and the feeling is spot on. :)

  • You are too kind! Thank you so much!!

  • Holy shit your tone is sooooo close. Definitely the closest I've ever heard to Dave's. Playing is not too shabby either. ;)

How much of this was EQ'd though, and how much is straight guitar/amp/stomp box tone with no "studio magic" as they say?

  • Thanks a lot! Just trying to show what the amp sounds like. I didn't really EQ too much. Just a bit of mud out of the ribbon mic I was using because it's a cheapo.. it sounds good, just a bit muddy.

  • how much are these?

  • Too Much! I don't think they make them anymore. At least, I can't find them online anywhere and the dealer I got it from closed. There's also nothing about them on their website.

They are VERY expensive, but it's the best amp I've ever owned and I've owned quite a few. I've done pretty well musically so I like to treat myself at times to gear, and this was the best piece of gear I've ever acquired!!

  • Great playing and great sound man,,, I bought two 50 watt combos with 1x 12 speakers and run them in stereo, dude,, now you get it, one of the best sounds ive ever heard.. Problem is the cost of one hiwatt is enough to make you choke.

  • Thanks a lot man. Yeah, if I had to pay full price I would never have been fortunate enough to have one. Luckily I traded a piece of vintage gear for it!!! I do spoil myself with gear though.

  • Hey,

Sounds sweet! Have you ever tried using a treble booster of fuzz with your Hiwatt?

Just a little comment: You're playing sounds good, but there are a lot of notes that you didn't let sustain (mainly in the first 30 seconds).

Other than that, really great tone and nice playing.

  • Thanks for the complements! I really didn't post this for the playing, rather to hear the amp.

If you read the sidebar you'll see that and the equipment I'm using. Most of the sustain issues come from the old strings. I am using a treble booster for this, that's where the grit comes in. Toward the end there is a tiny bit of a boost from a drive pedal, but it's mainly from the booster.

The booster is also great for getting ZZ Top tones!!

  • man plz tell me...what cambinet you use???

  • Hi, everything I used us in the description. It was a Hughes & Kettner 2x12 loaded with Vintage 30's. It's a really great cab, VERY thick and heavy like a Hiwatt.

    Thanks for commenting.

  • masterful!!! keep it up man!!!!!

  • sounds freaking awesome! Good job man.

  • Thanks so much!

  • Hey, nice tone. Very accurate but it could use a little more bite to it, maybe it was because of the old strings or maybe you just need to crank the amp a bit higher. That lick at 0:22 is a perfect example, there is not enough tube saturation.

I'd like to hear another Gilmour solo through your rig with the Large Beaver and delay. Maybe the 1977 live version of the 3rd SOYCD solo, that'd be awesome. Perhaps boosted by the BD-2 or Ego Booster as well if you think it sounds better.

  • Hey, thanks for your input. Not sure if you've ever used a Hiwatt, but they're really a clean amp. I had quite a bit of boost going into this one and the gain you here is what it was. You can crank the inputs on this (linked) and still not have much gain. Some of the other models are SLIGHTY dirtier, but not much. I've played the DR-103 and the PT models and they were a little bit grittier.

  • Wonderfull sound!!

  • Thanks very much my friend. I'm thinking if posting other clips. Anny suggestions on gear sample you would want to hear or songs?
