  • British Accent is not very common and I think it's hard to understand for me as an english non-english native speaker.. I speak spanish.. and I found out very hard.. I am trying to learn more.. in my school.. only teachers speak english but not very good.. some of them they have bad pronunciation, in china and another zones of the world they prefer to hire english native speakers..as well I need to improve my writing and grammar if you could give me advice for it.. thanks

  • I am a mexican and I am learning english.. I get lost with the british pronunciation.. I learned american english.. I want to learn and practice my english in mexico.. it's not very common to see native speakers.. I speak english with teachers.. but they are mexican.. sometimes they have bad pronunciation.. I want to improve grammar and speaking.. because if you know grammar.. you can speak grammatically correctly..

  • this is great news from you .. we are very proud of you so much :)

thank you very much Mr. Duncan.

  • Thank you, Mr. Duncan. I am so lucky to learn English from your videos. You are a part of my legs hee hee oops my life~^.^y.

  • thank uuuuuuuuu so much @@@

  • Mr. Duncan thank you very much.. i asked my teachers lots of time how can improve my english sill =)

  • I've noticed an unusual thing in that video ... I've never seen someone saying the -g final when pronunciating verbs with -ing, for example. So, that's what Misterduncan did, he said , at the beginning of the video : "teachinG English"

Why does that occur? I've never heard a native speaker saying this way.

  • "I've never seen someone saying the -g final when pronunciating verbs with -ing, for example."

Usually native speakers try to say words as fast as possible, so they often leave out sounds that they don't need, which then becomes a habit. Duncan is trying to teach the absolutely correct pronunciation.

Also, he has a British accent. Maybe you are used to hearing Americans?

  • it's just what I need thankyou.

  • It is just what i need.

  • Mr. Duncan... I would like to give you a big thanks that you share ur knowledge...and definitely you got a clear voice so that we can easily understand...thnks once again....

  • thanks a lot...

  • Hello misduncan, your clips are very useful. I am an English learner, and English is my second language. In the past 5 year, I have worked hard but I do not think I have got greatly improved as a skill as you said, and my Chinese accent is very heavy. How can I decrease the accent and speak clear like you?

  • i from afghanistan u r program so good i can learn from u

  • Thank you so much for your helpful efforts.

you are the best english teacher, I have ever seen. I'm learning english with your perfect videos...

    And I love this sentences;

    -How are you today?

    -Are you ok?

    - I hope so.

    -Are you Happy?

    -I hope so.

  • thanks sir for tips.

the most common problem we have ((as foreign students )) is practice .

because after school we talking to our community in our native language .

your videos are amazing , keep going.

  • Thanks Hamed. You make a great point. I found this problem was also very common during my time in China. I visited many schools, giving lectures and one of the most common questions the students asked me was "Where do I find other people to practice English with?" My answer was to say that there were many people around them to practice with. Of course I meant their classmates. It is up to the teachers to create an English environment, I have even taught teachers in the past. (Misterduncan)

  • when you order food is it correct to say i want it to take away

  • Good question. Yes we can use the phrase "Take away" in an informal sense. "I want it to take away" is often used. We can also say "I want it to take out". The opposite would be "I want to eat it in" or "I'm eating it in". (Misterduncan)

  • Mr. Duncan, thank you a lot! It's so interesting Video

  • Very good tips, Mr. Duncan! I'm an English teacher myself, and it's nice to see that ESL teachers go through the same experiences everywhere - I related a lot to what you talked about.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Hey Mister Duncan, Do you think if i keep seeing all the videos that you did, would i will be able to learn english?

  • oo mr duncan. i´m from spain and i know english is my third lenguage so i think that is good improve a lil right???

so please this is my msn to chill each other and can u teach me plis

    saludos

  • Mr duncan thank you so much! It's so interesting. May I ask a question? What is the rule of (long and short "a") as in cat and car. Your response is highly appreciated.

  • This is a good question. The use of the sharp 'A' and the long 'Ah' depends on the original accent. Even in British English this rule can vary from area to area. Words like 'bath'...'path'...'slant'...and 'plant' are good examples of this. Even USA English varies this use, depending on the area and local accent. So to answer your question, there is no set rule. You'll notice that I use the sharp 'A'. This is because of my local accent, it is a part of my character. Take care (Misterduncan)

  • I recently moved, and none of my friends speak English properly (this being a major problem, as its my primary language). I stared showing them your clips on youtube, and they've really helped! Many thanks ^-^

  • Do you think he speaks slowly in this video? aps.. I think I need to improve my listenig :(

  • He speaks at an average speaking pace.

  • Very good, and clear, thanks a lot,Is there any chance to post a video where we can pratice and understand better when and how to use, (for -to -in - on ),best regards!!!!!!!!

  • Hi,

Thanks, your video is so good

  • aloo..how to improve my speaking ya...

  • thank you, you give me confidence, I can understand you by 90%, which convinces me that I'm not so bad in English. I just need more practice to get accustomed to different accents.

  • i like this english-speaker his english is very clean and "clair" compared than the others english -speaker

  • for getting english more easily I think is necessary to live where english is spoken, am I wrong? please make me believe that its possible, learning without move to other country.

  • I can tell you--you really don't need to. If you feel it hard to speak English, you won't find things are easier when you are in English-speaking country. On the contrary, you will feel frustrated because you can't communicate freely with foreigners. Sorry to disppoint you, but the fact isn't as what you think. However, if you make good effect on English and have a strong foundation, a English environment will be very helpful.

  • you didn't disappoint me.But I think that nothing is impossible when you believe it.I never thought I could driving and swimming and I got it.I think that if you don't risk making something you are interested you will never know how it is.Even so, thx.

  • that's really good. i think you should to 4 minutes like that every week.

  • i think listening is also a good way to improve english, like babies, they learn by listening.
